- My name is Catherine and I am updating the 'Florida Board of Governors' page and 'State University System of Florida' page because there is outdated and incorrect information and statistics.Bogsus (talk) 15:18, 9 December 2015 (UTC)
- Is there another way I can go about editing this information so it is correct and updated without having a conflict of interest? Thank you. Bogsus (talk) 15:19, 9 December 2015 (UTC)
- Hi Catherine. Are you associated with the FBOG or SUS? ElKevbo (talk) 21:15, 9 December 2015 (UTC)
Both, I run the social media pages for the FLBOG which is the board for the SUS (State University System). I am just looking to update the information so it reflected the current numbers on the SUS' universities. Bogsus (talk) 21:56, 10 December 2015 (UTC) Bogsus (talk) 23:35, 29 December 2015 (UTC)
- Apologies for not replying sooner.
- First, it's almost always a bad idea to edit articles with which you have a conflict of interest. Unless your proposed edits are very minor or completely uncontroversial then the best way to proceed is to edit the article's Talk page and ask other editors what they think of your proposed edit so that one of them can carry it out. Second, you should definitely have your username changed by following the directions outlined above. Wikipedia accounts are associated with specific individuals, not groups, organizations, or roles; further, they shouldn't be (perceived as) promotional. Taken together, this usually means that accounts that have the names or abbreviations of organizations aren't permitted so your account will probably be blocked sooner or later unless you preemptively change your username.
- So go ahead and (a) outline your suggested changes on the article's Talk page and (b) request your username be changed. If you don't get a response on your proposed edit(s), feel free to ping me or drop a line here where you should find other editors interested in college and university articles.
