Some cookies to welcome you!

Welcome to Wikipedia, CenterforIsraelEducation! Thank you for your contributions. I am Epeefleche and I have been editing Wikipedia for some time, so if you have any questions feel free to leave me a message on my talk page. You can also check out Wikipedia:Questions or type {{helpme}} at the bottom of this page. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

Also, when you post on talk pages you should sign your name using four tildes (~~~~); that will automatically produce your username and the date. I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Epeefleche (talk) 19:35, 3 October 2013 (UTC)Reply

Thanks so much for your message! I'm very excited about getting more involved! First question, is this the right place to start a conversation? I have a couple of of questions.

Thanks! Patrick

Your account has been blocked indefinitely from editing Wikipedia because it appears to be mainly intended for publicity and/or promotional purposes. If you intend to edit constructively in other topic areas, you may be granted the right to continue under a change of username. Please read the following carefully.
Why can't I edit Wikipedia?

Your account's edits and/or username indicate that it is being used on behalf of a company, group, website or organization for purposes of promotion and/or publicity. The edits may have violated one or more of our rules on spamming, which include: adding inappropriate external links, posting advertisements and using Wikipedia for promotion. Wikipedia has many articles on companies, groups, and organizations, but such groups are generally discouraged from using Wikipedia to write about themselves. In addition, usernames like yours are disallowed under our username policy.

Am I allowed to make these edits if I change my username?

Probably not, although if you can demonstrate a pattern of future editing in strict accordance with our neutral point of view policy, you may be granted this right. See Wikipedia's FAQ for Organizations for a helpful list of frequently asked questions by people in your position. Also, review the conflict of interest guidance to see the kinds of limitations you would have to obey if you did want to continue editing about your company, group, organization, or clients. If this does not fit in with your goals, then you will not be allowed to edit Wikipedia again.

What can I do now?

If you have no interest in writing about some other topic than your organization, group, company, or product, you may consider using one of the many websites that allow this instead.

If you do intend to make useful contributions here about some other topic, you must convince a Wikipedia administrator that you mean it. To that end, please do the following:

  • Add the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} on your user talk page.
  • Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:Listusers to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy.
  • Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In this reason, you must:
    • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the edits for which you were blocked.
    • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
If you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal this block by adding the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} below, but you should read the guide to appealing blocks first. Bbb23 (talk) 22:32, 3 October 2013 (UTC)Reply

Requested username:

Request reason:

I understand it was inappropriate to make contributions as the organization pointing back to their website. I do in fact work for the Center for Israel Education but I don't intend to use this account simply to promote the Center. There will be opportunities for meaningful contributions about Israel related topics but I plan on contributing on topics like my real passion which is the development of soccer in Atlanta, Georgia and nu-disco music. Can I have another shot? I'm working in good faith to be a meaningful contributor on this resource. Thanks.

Allowing username change to requested username. Please put this request in at Wikipedia:Changing username as soon as possible to avoid re-blocking. Daniel Case (talk) 23:30, 18 October 2013 (UTC)Reply

Here are a few key questions:

You are currently blocked because your username appears directly related to a company, group or product that you have been promoting, contrary to the username policy. Changing the username will not allow you to violate the 3 important principles above. Daniel Case (talk) 03:14, 5 October 2013 (UTC)Reply

Daniel Case

Hi Daniel, thanks so much for your help. I completely understand that changing my username DOES NOT give me the right to violate the 3 principles you mentioned above.

- I don't intend to use this as a link depository. My boss is a published author who is an expert on the Middle East so he does have a lot of valuable information that can be contributed but I understand the necessity of adding information that has been verified by 3rd parties and is not just a page on our Website. - I do understand the conflict of interest and a member of the staff should NOT BE pushing our own material unless we are simply highlighting a relevant piece of information that has been independently verified and published. The information I've tried to contribute thus far does not represent a point of view, rather important supplementary facts that help fill-in the articles. - I understand this has to be done the proper way, no original research. Notable contributions will come from 3rd party verification, from trusted sources and no original research.

Thank you so much, Patrick 170.140.245.144 (talk) 16:27, 8 October 2013 (UTC)Reply
