Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions; however, please remember the essential rule of respecting copyrights. Edits to Wikipedia, such as your edit to the page Draft:Redundancy Principle (in Biology), may not contain material from copyrighted sources unless used with permission. It is almost never okay to copy extensive text out of a book or website and paste it into a Wikipedia article with little or no alteration, though you can clearly and briefly quote copyrighted text in the right circumstances. Content that does not comply with this legal rule must be removed. For more information on this, see:

Managing a conflict of interest

edit

  Hello, Holcman1. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about in the page Active flow network, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

  • avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization or competitors;
  • propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{request edit}} template);
  • disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest#How to disclose a COI);
  • avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:Spam);
  • do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. GPL93 (talk) 18:32, 21 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

Active flow network moved to draftspace

edit

An article you recently created, Active flow network, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Speedy deletion nomination of Single particle trajectories

edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Single particle trajectories requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4643198. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. The statement of copyright mentioned in your email is non-sense,

1-as I am the corresponding author and own the rights of my papers that you are quoting. I am OK to give right to wikipedia

2-I wrote the article by making substancial changes compared to the exiting review. I am not sure how this decision was made.

Thus I reject the statement of the email below. Best, David. Holcman1 (talk) 15:56, 4 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

Wikipedia is not a publisher of original research nor a vehicle for promotion. If another editor working on a related article topic sees your article and decides to include it, that's fine. Trying to promote your journal article for consideration, however, is not generally accepted. Congratulations on your research and on the accomplishment it represents but please allow others to discover your work through regular channels. Please help me with... Dear commenters,

I am still waiting for the release of what I wrote, as it was new text. I have provided the rights that were asked previously so I can use the routine explanation for the equation that I published in a review of the existing litterature.

Could you please give me access to my text, because I did not make copy and this text was original. I need to have acess, I am not going to publish it online, as I need to rework some parts and add new references.

Best wishes, David. Holcman1 (talk) 11:49, 5 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

This is the third time you've posted the same question, are you not understanding something? There are no rights for us to release. Your bioRxiv paper has apparently been accepted for publication Annual Review of Statistics and Its Application so nothing you have written here could be affecting it. You always retain the copyright to anything you have written on this website anyway. Please read this page which states: The text of Wikipedia is copyrighted (automatically, under the Berne Convention) by Wikipedia editors and contributors and is formally licensed to the public under one or several liberal licenses. If, on the other hand, you are trying to get something you said in that paper (or some other paper) included in this website, asking for permission to publish it, no matter how many times you repeat the request, is not going to work. As you have been told in the review of your draft article, Wikipedia does not publish work. It summarizes secondary sources, which is a very important distinction. If there is another existing Wikipedia article you think your work is relevant to, please use an Edit Request on the relevant article's talk page to bring it to the attention of other editors. Your request will need to include exactly what text you are proposing for inclusion, where you think it belongs in the article, and why you think the article does not cover the point you are proposing adequately in its present state. Please read, understand, and follow the Core Content Policies and What Wikipedia is not for more information. I hope this helps. Eggishorn (talk) (contrib) 18:22, 5 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

Help me!

Please help me with... Could this message be given to some responsible authorities at wiki.

I have now written several wiki pages with the same style as that one and had in mind to finish also that one. I do not understand why this SPT page cannot be released to me in my PRIVATE SPACE so I can modify it and change what needs to be changed in the text but not the equations.

So far, none of the answers made to me are making much sense. I was first asked to release copyright, which I did and then got responses that I do not understand, although I have been University Professor for the past 25 years in 5 countries: U. Cambridge, Oxford, ENS, UCSF, Weizmann,etc...

I repeat, I do not ask to post my page, I would like to have it back to my private work space as the amount of formula I wrote is quite extensive and I have no time to rewrite them. This page present, introduce and review the works of the past 20 about SPts.

I see several major disfunctions at wiki in translational knowledge, with many confusion about what is a research article, a review and explanation for large public, students or experts.

Best wishes, David. Holcman1 (talk) 23:11, 8 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

It is my understanding that the problem, as identified by those who posted here before me, is that copyrighted text cannot be stored anywhere on Wikipedia, your "private space" (which is actually public) included.
However, I think it might be possible to have the text of the deleted page e-mailed to you by one of the admins, such as @Cabayi: the admin who deleted Draft:Single particle trajectories as long as you promise not to publish any of it here until it's ready. 78.28.55.91 (talk) 03:03, 9 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
David, you state "I was first asked to release copyright, which I did" which is correct up to a point. The release on bioRxiv states:

Copyright The copyright holder for this preprint is the author/funder, who has granted bioRxiv a license to display the preprint in perpetuity. All rights reserved. No reuse allowed without permission.

That's a licence to bioRxiv exclusively to host a copy, not to Wikipedia. A licence to Wikipedia would need to be handled through one of the ways outlined at WP:DONATETEXT (a link you've already been given), permitting the modification & reuse of the text.
Because Wikipedia allows its material to be copied, modified, and reused any material uplaoaded needs to be released to Wikipedia on those same terms.
The material you've uploaded is your own publication which, in Wikipedia terms, is Original Research WP:OR which you're not just self-citing WP:SELFCITE but republishing. I understand that you want to make a distinction between publications which are "a research article, a review and explanation for large public, students or experts" but Wikipedia policy does not.
I'll happily email a copy of the deleted wiki article to you if you wish, but please note, it shouldn't be uploaded to Wikipedia again while the copyright issues remain. Cabayi (talk) 09:26, 9 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of Zeev schuss

edit

Hello Holcman1,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Zeev schuss for deletion, because it seems to be promotional, rather than an encyclopedia article.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Thanks!

  Hello Holcman1! Your additions to Zeev schuss have been removed in whole or in part, as they appear to have added copyrighted content without evidence that the source material is in the public domain or has been released by its owner or legal agent under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. (To request such a release, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission.) While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • We have strict guidelines on the usage of copyrighted images. Fair use images must meet all ten of the non-free content criteria in order to be used in articles, or they will be deleted. To be used on Wikipedia, all other images must be made available under a free and open copyright license that allows commercial and derivative reuse.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Wikipedia. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into either the public domain (PD) or under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. Such a release must be done in a verifiable manner, so that the authority of the person purporting to release the copyright is evidenced. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps described at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. See also Help:Translation#License requirements.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Yeeno (talk) 🍁 07:57, 21 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

Decline reason:

I've moved your below text out of an unblock message. There's no need to have more than one open request at a time, if you want to reply, just post below the bottom message. Of course, I've now closed this unblock request, so you could open a new one, if suitable.
  • The copyright is yours, but that does not mean there are no copyright issues. To use content on Wikipedia requires not merely owning the copyright, but releasing a license for it in an extremely specific way. A way that your website does not meet. free to use with appropriate reference is more like a custom release set-up, whereas we use a specific license that will irrevocably change and establish a range of license conditions.
  • That you say have put to wiki personal content from my professional personal webpage many time before and never got any problems, because there are no copyright ISSUES is immensely concerning - no-one will unblock you without all these aspects being identified, as currently every one of them will be out of compliance.
  • While drafts under construction are immune from certain deletion reasons, especially notability, they are still subject to avoiding promotional phrasing and content - we aren't obliged to wait until article submission to decide such. Nosebagbear (talk) 11:36, 5 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Holcman1 (talk) 13:14, 21 September 2021 (UTC)}}Reply

Note that your site explicitly claims copyright, right at the bottom. It says, "© ENS - 2014-2021". It also links to this notice about copyright, explicitly claiming the copyright belongs to the Biology department (and not, say, you personally). --Yamla (talk) 13:24, 21 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

And please in addition note that this is not the first time you have been counseled about copying material under copyright and with an incompatible license to Wikipedia, which is why I blocked you—simply asking you to stop seems to be ineffective. If I am convinced that you will stop introducing copyright violations to Wikipedia, I would be willing to unblock you, but you would need to at this point agree to stop copying material from elsewhere altogether. I know that copyright and license compatibility can be difficult to understand, but without a thorough understanding of them and a certainty that the license truly is compatible, you shouldn't be copying things from elsewhere into Wikipedia (and often, even if the license is compatible the material wouldn't be appropriate here anyway). Instead, it is best to use the remote material as a reference, and write about the facts it verifies in your own words. Would you be willing to agree to this? Seraphimblade Talk to me 18:20, 21 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

-- Could you release the text I was writting and put it in my directory, so I can continue editing

You probably did not understand that the content of the page https://www.biologie.ens.fr/depbio/spip.php?article33&lang=fr

is MINE

ENS-which is my institution-is not responsible for the contain of INDIVIDUAL page, which belongs to them. Thus there is no copyright issue contrary to what you said. I have put to wiki personal content from my professional personal webpage many time before and never got any problems, because there are no copyright ISSUES.

In addition, you blocked my account when I was in the middle of writting a bibliography for a mathematician, it was NOT READY to be evaluated, so it is too early to send me a feedback about promotion, as I was cleaning and editing the draft.

As you can see I do contribute to Wiki, so please be respectful for the work I am doing for free.

Please unlock my account, I do not see any reason to create a new one.

Request reason:

To wikipedia editor-in-chief, Although, 1- I have understood the reason why I have been blocked for, --> misinterpretation of copyright by search engine so that the administration from our university has now corrected our website, where I provided for free to reuse my own text without requesting permission as shown at the bottom of the page https://www.ibens.ens.fr/spip.php?rubrique40&lang=fr "copyrights@David Holcman, free to use with appropriate reference." --> will not continue to cause damage or disruption, and I never intended to damage and disrupt, as shown from my record. --> will make useful contributions instead. I have made for more than 8 years usefull and substantial contribution to wikipedia as can be seen from my record. To that day, my account is still blocked with no sustantial justifications. Finally, due to this block, I still cannot submit a corrected version for my article "Active network flow". Best wishes, David.

To wikipedia Yamla editor-in-chief, I confirm as I did already 4 times, that the block is no longer necessary because
