Yuan Dynasty

edit

I think someone left a comment below but this map[1] seems "more" correct (although the western borderline between Yuan and Korea could decline a bit more south).

On the map of the Jin Dynasty (265-420)

edit

Hi, I'm just wondering about [2]. While it is marked "265 AD", which is when the Jin overthrew the Wei regime, the Kingdom of Wu still controlled southeastern China; the Jin only conquered Wu in 280 AD. Could you please amend the map? Thank you. LeinSora (talk) 05:00, 14 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Archive

edit

Quick question, after reading Wiki I'm still confused... what exactly do I type to archive a certain section of a talk page? Jsw663 04:08, 3 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hey you know what im not even sure if i did it properly. You can add *[[/Archive1]], January 30, 2007 to April 3, 2007 on talk:Ian Kiu and a redlink would show. Open the redlink in a new window, select and cut the discussion codes from the main talk page(you have to look carefully on the edit page to know where certain codes begin and end) and paste them onto the new archive page, adding {{talkarchive}} at the top. To be safe I would save the main talk page without the discussion codes after I have saved the newly created archive page.
Usually talk pages will already have archived pages, so following the previous format would be nice, like following date formats, adding the [[/Archive1]] link under some Archive boxes.
Im confused too after reading anything on wikihelp, and since this is only one way to do it, I hope im doing it right and you know what im talking about. ian-Kiu 07:36, 3 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hello. I was wondering if I can use that picture on these 2 articles:

  • Ancient History#Ancient China - in this article, I will use your lovely animated picture to replace Image:China 2c.jpg.
  • History of China - I think you image should be placed alongside the lead in this article, it is an excellent illustration of the territories of all the Dynasties.

Thanks. Oidia (talk) 04:43, 11 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Tang Dynasty Map

edit

Thank you for uploading and adding that map to the article on the Tang Dynasty! Much appreciated. I put a lot of work and effort into lifting that article to featured article status, and with the high quality map you have added, the article is that much better.--Pericles of AthensTalk 06:19, 14 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Dynasties

edit

Hi, sorry but here're a few more nitpicks for your dynastic map:

1. In 1949 the ROC still controlled much of southwest China (lost in late 1949 - early 1950), Hainan (lost in 1950), and the Dachen Islands (abandoned in 1954). 2. I think for some of the frames you're using the approximate "sphere of influence" borders used in Chinese historical atlas, but for others you're using Yeu Ninje's settlement-based maps. (e.g. Han Dynasty vs Three Kingdoms). I think it's better to stick to one system. Personally I think that Chinese historical atlases exaggerate the extent of dynasties, but Yeu Ninje's maps are a bit too fragmented to make for a good animated overview.

Nice work on the maps!

Hello, a request

edit

I want to thank you once again for that awesome map you uploaded for the Tang Dynasty article, it was in desperate need of a good map. I was wondering if you could do the same for Grand Canal of China, because there are no maps for it on wikimedia commons (which seems sort of strange to me, given that its one of the most important canals in the world, and one of the most popular and well-known things about China). Would you have time to do this favor for me? If so I would be eternally grateful, and would surely return the favor with whatever you think I could provide for you here at wiki.--Pericles of AthensTalk 20:54, 17 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Map versions

edit

Could you make a map of Western Jin Dynasty (from the History and Commercial Atlas of China reference) and replace it with the Eastern Jin Dynasty map in your animated "Image:Territories of Dynasties in China.gif" map; thus illustrating the Jin Dynasty (晋) at its full boundary? I think also make a map of Northern Wei and Southern Qi at exact 500 CE to illustrate the balance of power during the Southern and Northern Dynasties (rather than four division states) would be a good image for the Southern and Northern era, and replace it with the 560 CE map in your animated dynastic map. What do you think?--Balthazarduju (talk) 21:01, 20 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for responding, but could you change the Jin Dynasty map's link to Jin instead of Jeun, which I don't know which types of romanization it is, but most user sure to be unfamiliar with it. Could you also add these two maps to your "Image:Territories of Dynasties in China.gif" map, and replace them with the old Easter Jin Dynasty map and the Northern and Southern Dynasties map since there only needs one map to illustrate the Jin Dynasty and Southern and Northern Dynasties. Thanks.--Balthazarduju (talk) 23:20, 25 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

The animated map of China

edit

Hello once again. Thanks again for your effort in creating that map. I was wondering about the territories ruled by the Han Dynasty. The map says most of the province of (present day) Zhejiang is not ruled by the Han. And then I stumbled across this essay written by the Australian National University. In this particular section of the essay, it says that the Han did have control over the northern half of Zhejiang province, and have "some" control over the southern half of Zhejiang and Fujian. I was wondering if you can revise the Han Dynasty part of the animated map? Thanks again. Oops!...I did it again (talk) 10:30, 29 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

I left a comment regarding Korean peninsula in Yuen_Dynasty_1294.png[3]. Please check. (I am not Korean but Japanese. It is not fair to draw like that for Koreans.) --221.190.251.233 (talk) 06:34, 20 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

about the animated map

Image:Territories of Dynasties in China.gif

there were several scattered shang sites around places not shown there, like where nigpo is today.

and warring states map should include, the kingdoms of wu and yue,

min yue and nan yue should be somewhere on there to.

and tarim basin was a han protectorate, with chinese garrisons across turkestan, and during tang the area of gokturk khanates, and tibet were temprorarily in tang empire though they were lost, and Later the tang empire regained control of the tarim basin, with protectorates into central asia as far as herat, then ir shrank again. ㄏㄨㄤㄉㄧ (talk) 21:18, 21 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Same map but showing Ming and Qing only

edit

I wonder could you make another two Image:Territories of Dynasties in China.gif, one showing Ming and Qing only, one showing Qing and the prestent PRC? If you can, would be much appreciated. If you do, can you reduce the frames per second?(That is , make the pages turn a bit slower. Many thanks.Arilang1234 (talk) 11:46, 11 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

can you add on more stages of each dynasty? you skipped out on some stages in warring states, and han and tang dynasties, they each ruled vast amounts of territories at different times, like tang ruled both gokturk khanates, then lost them, but regained them AND conquered a part of sogdiana and khorosan (afghanistan)Julius Ceasarus From Primus (talk) 00:23, 4 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

The Grand Canal of China Map

edit

Dear Ian Kiu,

My name is Jonathan. I am with Can of Worms Enterprises, a small, independent publisher based in London which specialises in adventure non-fiction and books for children as well as a range of other genres. One book we are currently developing, "The Emperor's River", describes the author's adventures while navigating the Grand Canal of China. I would like to ask permission to include your map that depicts the canal's modern course in our book, as a visual aid for tracing the course of the author's journey. It would be a wonderful addition to the book.

I found it on wikipedia here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Modern_Course_of_Grand_Canal_of_China.png .

You would of course retain full credit for the map, and although as a small publisher we are unable to offer monetary payment we would love to offer you a free copy of the book once it is published.

I thank you for your time in advance, and wish you all the best in the new year.
