Conflict of interest
editYou need to tread very carefully in editing articles about topics you're close to or have an interest in- see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest. The short answer is, what you want cannot be done. Subjects of articles do not have control over the contents of the articles. Wikipedia is meant to be a neutral encyclopedia. People can market themselves, and exercise editorial control, on their own websites, but not here. Hope this helps. Friday (talk) 20:49, 26 August 2008 (UTC)
- However, if you have photographs of these two, and also the rights to those photographs, you can upload these images. Just make it explicitly clear on the image page that you are allowing these images to be used! See Wikipedia:Uploading images and Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for more info. — Twas Now ( talk • contribs • e-mail ) 21:05, 26 August 2008 (UTC)
Small note about GFDL
editI noticed your posting at the help desk and I thought that I would voice a concern. Any text posted on Wikipedia is licensed under GNU Free Document License which allows for the content to be copied, reused, changed, and even sold for profit. If you have approved biographies from the two comedians you mentioned, you should know that the information maybe end up being reused. I'm not trying to deter you, I just wanted to inform you so there is no confusion later if the work is reused or edited. :) Bvlax2005 (talk) 23:57, 26 August 2008 (UTC)
Attempting to control articles
editAt the Wikipedia:Help desk, you posted, "This is the only information they want to appear on the website besides the links to their websites. What steps do I need to take to make sure these changes happen? I need to make sure this happens as soon as possible."! Sorry, that ain't ever gonna happen. We are an impartial reference work, and nobody "owns" or controls an article here, not even one about themselves. Verifiable information is solicited and added from any number of impartial, reliable sources. --Orange Mike | Talk 15:39, 27 August 2008 (UTC)
- Please stop your campaign of rewriting articles as you just did at Doug Benson. You really need to edit cautiously until you get the hang of things here because on your present cause someone will end up blocking you as these edits look like vandalism because they remove what was there before to insert your opions on the subject. Thanks, SqueakBox 18:57, 29 August 2008 (UTC)
I work for Doug Benson and I am only trying to update the information on Wiki so it is current. I'm not trying to vandalize anything. DO you know how I can do this. I also have a great new headshot that he would love to be put up and I'm sure you all would love it too. I have a few other comedians who I would like to update the information for because the current information is inaccurate. Again, I'm sorry if you thought I was trying to vandalize anything. please help! I'm new to this
Please see the bit above of conflicts of interest. If you're willing to release the pictures as free content, by all means upload them. But, you can't go around replacing people's biographies with marketing material. Friday (talk) 19:05, 29 August 2008 (UTC)
I understand what you are saying but we are having big problems because whoever is writing these bios has inaccurate information. Why are they allowed to post inaccurate info and I can't fix it? Can you please help.
- You can fix inaccuracies, but you need to be very careful. Wikipedia requires a neutral point of view. Statements like "Since then, his comedy has evolved in a unique and creative fashion as he has grown from a fun-loving college student to a bewildered husband" are not usable here. Your best bet is to cite accurate sources. If you find unsourced information that you don't agree is accurate, you can generally remove it. But, as I said, please be careful- if you don't seem to be trying to be neutral, other editors won't trust your edits. Friday (talk) 19:12, 29 August 2008 (UTC)
THANKS!!
- You're welcome. This place may seen a little weird at first, but it doesn't usually take people long to catch on to how things work. The one other caution I'd give you is, if someone disagrees with your edits strongly enough to undo it, don't just keep putting it back. We call this "edit warring" and it could get you blocked from editing. Make your case on the talk page, and see if others agree. If you need help, put a {{helpme}} on your talk page, or leave me a message. Friday (talk) 19:17, 29 August 2008 (UTC)
- You need to (a) be cautious (b) not just destroy the work of others and (c) make sure you only use verifiable and relaible sources, please read the 2 articles I have linked to. We certainly do want an up to date good article on Doug. Why not post at Talk:Doug Benson and give us specific details of inaccuracies etc? Thanks, SqueakBox 19:34, 29 August 2008 (UTC)
Hi-
I have some updated info about Josh Blue that I would like to add to his page:
We should add a line about Josh appearing in the movie Ca$h! (you can reference the imdb page for this film http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1106860/)
We can say that he will be appearing in the films FEAST II and FEAST III (source - http://www.fangoria.com/dvd_review.php?id=6238)
We can add that he has produced a CD entitled "Good Josh, Bad Arm" and DVD "7 More Days in the Tank" (source: www.myspace.com/joshblue)
His top youtube video has just under 1 million plays (as of Aug 08) (source: www.youtube.com)
Also, that he taped a half hour special for Comedy Central in NYC in Aug 08, (source www.myspace.com/joshblue)
How can I get this info added to his page? Thanks. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Inamariesmile (talk • contribs)
- If you want to offer useful information on a topic such as this where you have a conflict of interest, post it to the talk page of the article, after clearly stating your conflict of interest. Other, more impartial editors will look at the information (if you provide reliable sources, not MySpace and YouTube pages) and decide whether to incorporated into the article. If you believe any information in an article now is incorrect (not unflattering, not something you don't want talked about, but actually false), again post your suggested correction on the talk page of the article. --Orange Mike | Talk 23:49, 29 August 2008 (UTC)
