Speedy deletion nomination of Draft:IRBM Science Park SpA

edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Draft:IRBM Science Park SpA, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. There have been two problems with this account: the account has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia, and your username indicates that the account represents a business or other organisation or group or a web site, which is also against policy, as an account must be for just one person. Because of those problems, the account has been blocked indefinitely from editing.

If you intend to make useful contributions about some topic other than your business or organisation, you may request an unblock. To do so, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:CentralAuth to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy. Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In that reason, you must:

  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
If you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal this block by adding the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page, but you should read the guide to appealing blocks first. Alexf(talk) 10:08, 7 March 2018 (UTC)Reply

This user's request to be unblocked to request a change in username has been reviewed by an administrator, who declined the request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without a good reason (see the blocking policy). Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Request reason:

I did not realize the policy prevented the use of an organization as a name. Furthermore, my draft Wikipedia page is a translation of an existing Wikipedia page on it.wikipedia.org, which was published by some other user before I ever became involved with IRBM. The existing IT page can be found here: https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Irbm_Science_Park . Finally, the block on the same day as my draft article was rejected due to the need to rephrase it into a more neutral tone effectively prevents me from correcting the mistake. I would also point out that I voluntarily indicated the potential conflict of interest, when I made my account, and that my goal was exclusively to create an english page for a company which, while located in Italy, was part of an American company before its reorganization and is now working with several companies in the US. I identified a couple of sentences that may be perceived as promotional, and I would have changed them, but the block now prevents me from doing so.

Decline reason:

I don't have an opinion on the Italian page, but this was blatant spam, and not of a kind I would expect from someone with scientific responsibilities. "Solutions"? "strong legacy expertise"? "the skill and expertise of its team is integral to its success and explosive growth"? "first-in-class"? That's not the language of a scientific publication. Those examples largely weren't present in the Italian page either. You didn't "identify" sentences that may be perceived as promotional, you added them. Huon (talk) 01:45, 13 March 2018 (UTC)Reply
I will also add that if you are employed by this company, or are otherwise paid to represent them, then your conflict of interest declaration is not enough. You will have to follow Wikipedia's mandatory policy on paid editing. --Drm310 🍁 (talk) 14:24, 7 March 2018 (UTC)Reply
While I am employed at IRBM, I am not a member of the marketing team, nor am I senior management. My responsibilities focus on the scientific, not on marketing/visibility. I undertook the creation of this draft, given there already existed an approved entry in the Italian version of Wikipedia, because especially considering Italy's dismal research and biotech situation, the existence of a place like IRBM which survived a big pharma pullback (something which many similar sites, even in the US, did not) is remarkable. The policy states that you are required to declare the CoI only if you are paid to promote the company and edit Wikipedia articles for them. Applying it to any employee of the company, from janitor to CEO, creates a slippery slope as well (what about someone who left the company last month and registers on Wikipedia later? They would not have to declare a conflict of interest and could modify the page on behalf of their ex-colleagues, with Wikipedia editors none the wiser).Xar1980 (talk) 16:00, 7 March 2018 (UTC)Reply
Feel free to discuss policy as you wish, but it's not going to change the fact that you will not be unblocked until you agree to adhere our paid editing guidelines. --jpgordon𝄢𝄆 𝄐𝄇 17:10, 7 March 2018 (UTC)Reply
