- Yes, usually I do sign my messages - I don't know what came over me. ;) Thanks for the warm welcome. Jarod (talk) 19:56, 14 January 2014 (UTC)
- No problem! - Ahunt (talk) 19:59, 14 January 2014 (UTC)
- BTW, see my pages on the EQ2 wikia User talk page and Software Userboxes. I had created a few which I mention on my talk page, and on the list page, it shows how we created some semblance order. Jarod (talk) 01:45, 15 January 2014 (UTC)
- I guess that work on that wiki just as well! - Ahunt (talk) 02:44, 15 January 2014 (UTC)
- I didn't realize you are Canadian, there are quite a few of us here on Wikipedia!! - Ahunt (talk) 18:46, 15 January 2014 (UTC)
- Yup, I used to live in London Ontario, now I'm just west of Ottawa. Jarod (talk) 18:56, 15 January 2014 (UTC)

- It's a small world after all... I live in White Lake and work in Arnprior. My wife works at the Heart Institute (Civic). Jarod (talk) 19:25, 15 January 2014 (UTC)
- The wiki world is surprisingly small! - Ahunt (talk) 20:07, 15 January 2014 (UTC)
- You guys should arrange a WP:Meetup. I'd come, but I'm far away. BTW how's the Babel box now? --Redrose64 (talk) 21:21, 15 January 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks for the edit Redrose64! Perhaps we should arrange a Meetup at some point in Ottawa. BTW, is there any convention to re-start replies back on the left margin? ;) Jarod (talk) 21:49, 15 January 2014 (UTC)

Yes, you can use the {{od}}
template. If you set the first parameter to be the exact number of colons that the previous post was indented by, i.e. {{od|:::::::::::}}
, the right-hand tick on the connector bar will line up correctly. --Redrose64 (talk) 22:10, 15 January 2014 (UTC)
Regex Golf
editSo, someone who writes a comic got me on to Regex Golf, and now it's got a hold of my life. This is where you have to match all items in List 1, but zero items in List 2 using a single regex. Starting with 200 points, 10 points are removed for each case not matched in List 1, 10 points are removed for each match in List 2, and 1 point is removed for each character used in the regex. Well, sort of. I'm still trying to figure out the exact scoring rules. For hole 11, it would seem to work more on the number of characters you do and do not match: there is a "maximum" possible score of -5135 by using ^[01]
which matches everything on both sides.
Yes, golf should be scored the other way, with minimum scores being more desirable. But the idea of golf in this case is linked to creating the shortest possible regex at or below a set target per hole, similar to trying to hit at or below "par" per "real" golf hole.
My current total score: 3,614 / 3,200 or -414 in golf scoring lingo (112.9%)
- Assuming a perfect score per hole is 200

---|---|
Old Score: 3614

New Score: 3670

So, new computer, new browser install - scores got wiped. Now it's sort of challenging to remember what I did to get some of the scores I have posted. Some of them were straight forward and I remember, others I'm not doing so well. On a few others I've actually improved my score. On that note, I've determined I'm not going to try and recover my old expressions, but instead I'm going to try and re-create them - for better or for worse. ;) Jarod (talk) 19:55, 7 March 2014 (UTC)
- Hmm, since I imported this from my main page, the score table is no longer auto-collapsing. Can't figure it out. :( Jarod (talk) 15:06, 10 February 2014 (UTC)
Customizable Video Game Userbox
editSo if you head to my sandbox you will find a fully customizable user box for video games which may not have their own dedicated box yet. I think this template is great, it's very powerful and could even be used to create dedicated userboxes. But, alas, [Template:User_VG] has already been taken by "This user contributes using an advanced understanding of Vector Graphics.", or something like that. Well, I'm open to suggestions for options.
