Space music

Hi. It seems like you have an interest in ambient music. I wonder if you wouldn't mind taking a look at Space music when you get a chance. More help needed

If you have been following along at WP:FLC#List_of_Chicago_Landmarks you know we need help creating stubs for the List to make it a more useful list and help it achieve WP:FLC status. Since I reminded people of this 7 stubs have been created. We need about 40 more to be safe although we may have a successful candidacy with the article as it stands.

Some of you may also be following the success of WP:CHICOTW at Wikipedia:WikiProject Chicago/COTW/Good Articles. For the last 4 weeks no one has been very active. Thus, I am fearful that Historic Michigan Boulevard District, Harold Washington Cultural Center, Crown Fountain, & Art Institute of Chicago Building will all fail at WP:GAC when their turns come up. Also, Magnificent Mile did not experience the collaborative spirit. Our reputation as a successful collaboration is at stake. In addition to making stubs for the FLC we need your contribution to our collaborations. I am sorry to pull you away from whatever other wikipleasures you may be experiencing, but we need your help. You may have noticed that LJS and the good capt have settled their differences in the face of an external threat, leading to various squabbles amongst WikiSheff pages, Tinsley Viaduct (cf the coords subpage) being the first one with various spin-offs such as Hicks Building, Meersbrook, 4 or 5 in all. I asked here for advice; there is also an RfA here. I wondered whether you perceive any disruption and/or edit warring; and if so whether you might consider banning him from either the specific pages or all pages within WikiSheff. Sheffield - Demography

Hello again JeremyA, I hope all is well.

On the Sheffield article (which I know you've personally worked very hard on), would you object to the expansion of the "Demography" sub-section with a "comparison table" (see Manchester for an example) and it being given a full "section" status.

My logic is that whilst Demography is part of Geography, so really is Economy, Transport, Governance etc. And the new WP:UKCITIES guidelines ask for a seperate section because the wider WP:CITIES asks for this (often for FA standard), and these were built from consensus from a large communal editor base. I'd also like to see it have its own section on Demography because Sheffield is often used as THE example when it comes to writing settlements.

I will try to work on a comparison table, but do let me know your thoughts. Jza84 00:43, 11 July 2007 (UTC)

Hi Jza84. Sorry Jeremy for using your discussion page to speak to Jza but wanted to congratulate him and you for the demogrphy section of the Sheffield article. I was looking at the section header and feared it'd be yet more anti-Sheffield bias but was pleased to see a truly neutral yet favorable section on the demography of Sheffield. I would like to however, place reservations on some of the wordings such as white which might benefit from an update to Caucasian if it this precise term that is meant. Once again good work and why not create Demography of Sheffield as it has been done for the economy, history and several others. My inclination is to go with whatever terminology the source uses. It is unclear to me whether or not the term white, as used by the 2001 census, is directly interchangeable with caucasian. Demography of Sheffield could be a redirect to People of Sheffield (or vice versa), although I think that People of Sheffield could do with a major rewrite (I made a half-hearted attempt to fix it back in 2006). —Jeremy (talk) 14:40, 19 August 2007 (UTC)

I was only mildly concerned by the state of political correctness we live in where many racial names are no longer used so as to not offend anyone, although white could encompass people originary from say the mediterranean, Caucasian is the PC term I understand (I hope I'm not digging a hole here). People of Sheffield doesn't seem to fit with the rest of the Sheffield articles, what with Geography, History, Tranport, it seemed People was out of place/character. Mark Gasser

I have spent a lot of time researching this pianist. The source was a reliable one and is published by Sheffield City Council. I am currently writing this from Australia. It seems ludicrous that you have now said that this is an unreliable article and have said there are no sources. Gasser is one of the most important pianists of his generation and there are links to many reviews from major newspapers worldwide in the review section. I would appreciate it if you restore my work as there is no conflict here.

Hi Jeremy,

He is obviously amongst the most respected alumni as he is a fellow of both institutes and gained the highest ever marks in the history of the Birmingham Conservatoire (see CQCM website.

He is world renowned and has had many articles written about him in every major paper going. If you object to the word I shall remove it - however judging from the reviews (which ARE needed) this could not be argued otherwise.

the reviews should count as references as this is how living performers achieve their name. The independent is about the longest piece of music ever written. On the CQCM website it tells of how Gasser received standing ovations at Carnegie Hall, The Wigmore Hall (UK) and Melbourne town hall etc - all backed up in the reviews. I think this is enough to justify the comments. I have removed the other words as they are unimportant.

Template:GBvosi

I noticed your comment at Template talk:GBvosi regarding the breakage in that template. Whilst it is possible to zoom in on the 1:10,560 scale images once one's at the old-maps site, I haven't found a way of going directly to a enlargement in the way that GBvoss did. I have this evening gone through all the articles that used the old GBvoss template (there were only eleven) and modified them to use GBvosi. I have also redirected GBvoss to point at GBvosi.

I am also hoping that it might be possible to specify links to one of the later maps shown across the bottom of the screen. I'm going to try and decipher the java script behind the page to see if there might be any clues there as to if this is possible. --DavidCane 00:49, 22 August 2007 (UTC)

Curious to know why you deleted this? Your explanation doesn't include my verifiable credits for several top comics publishers, in books that have been published world-wide. There are also various instances in Wikipedia where my name is linked from, I think. Both of these should be enough to confirm notability?

Time Lapse 2

What is wrong with having a few links up there? Have you actually looked at the links that you keep removing? I don't think any of them violate "the rules". I think it would be good for a page about time lapse photography to have to links to some examples of time lapse photography, don't you think? Oh and just to clarify, I am not adding the links, merely undoing the removal.

I feel that the two examples of time lapse photography on the page are quite poor and uninteresting, and I when I think of time lapse photography I certainly don't think of a flower opening nor a piece of fruit rotting. Even the page states other examples of time lapse photography, such as: cloudscapes and celestial motion, evolution of a construction project and people in the city. Thanks for uploading Image:Zoo-movie.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. As the title suggests, I have a question of a graphic design nature which I hope you can help with... I came across your beautifully rendered Sheffield Urban Area map and wondered how exactly you'd produced the railways? Is it done in Adobe Illustrator? I presume its a bespoke brush you've made? Why has the article on Fulwood village, Yorkshire been removed? It is quite different to other Sheffield 'districts,' having a very keen sense of its own separate identity from the city of Sheffield itself.
