Hello, Jimmbaker. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a COI may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. In particular, please:
- avoid editing or creating articles related to you and your circle, your organization, its competitors, projects or products;
- instead propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (see the {{request edit}} template);
- when discussing affected articles, disclose your COI (see WP:DISCLOSE);
- avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
- exercise great caution so that you do not violate Wikipedia's content policies.
In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).
Please familiarize yourself with relevant policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, sourcing and autobiographies. Thank you.

editHello, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. This is just a note to let you know that I've moved the draft that you were working on to Draft:Jim M. Baker, from its old location at User:Jimmbaker/Jim M. Baker. This has been done because the Draft namespace is the preferred location for Articles for Creation submissions. Please feel free to continue to work on it there. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to ask me on my talk page. Thank you. Anarchyte (work | talk) 02:31, 1 February 2016 (UTC)

Please help me with... I'm confused with what if anything you want or expect me to do for my contribution ? Sorry ! My name is Don Derington, but my only personal contact with my subject, Jim M. Baker, occurred when I was a 17 year-old high school student in 1960 in Kansas City shortly after Baker had competed in a Track meet. However now as a 72-year old retired man I want to memorialize in a small and modest way this outstanding athlete of my time back "in the day". So I'm confused about how to even communicate with you in this format? My E-mail is DonDerington@hotmail.com., and I'm not high-tech, this is all new to me. So please excuse my ignorance and confusion. Sorry to be so stupid, please tell me what I'm to do to successfully create and produce my contribution of "Jim M. Baker" in Wiki ? Thank you very much for the time and attention you've given to my contribution. On the next line is your signature; please keep it --> Jimmbaker (talk) 14:11, 1 February 2016 (UTC) (Don Derington; DonDerington@hotmail.com) Jimmbaker (talk) 14:11, 1 February 2016 (UTC)
- First, I suggest that you apply for a change of username. An account should not be in the name of another living person, and even if Mr Baker is no longer living it has caused confusion, because it gave the impression that you were writing about yourself, which is strongly discouraged on Wikipedia. You can apply at WP:Changing username. Your username may be based on your real name, or not, as you choose (see WP:REALNAME for some considerations), but it should not be the name of any other living person, or of any group or organization.
- Second, as an encyclopedia, Wikipedia is quite selective about article subjects, and I am not sure that Mr Baker meets the inclusion test, which is called Wikipedia:Notability, and looks for references showing "significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject." Your references are only list entries, not the substantial coverage required - see WP:Notability (summary) for a guide. They seem to me to show that he was a reasonably successful college athlete, but not at the standard required for notability in that field - see WP:NTRACK (you may have to scroll up that page to find the heading "Athletics/track & field and long-distance running").
- If he was the outstanding athlete of his time, you should be able to find press coverage which is more than just results listing; if so, by all means add it to the article and resubmit. Regards, JohnCD (talk) 15:07, 1 February 2016 (UTC)
Reply to your message on my talk page
editFirst, two points of technique:
- When starting a new conversation on a talk page, it's good to give it a header. The easiest way is to click "New section" at the top of the page, which will give you a form with spaces for header and message, and will post it in the right place at the bottom of the page. Alternatively, you can make a header by putting a pair of = signs before an after - you can see what that looks like if you look at this page in edit mode.
- The character you need four of to make a signature is not ` but ~ (tilde). On my keyboard, that's above the # sign, but keyboards vary.
Back to your draft: sources behind paywalls are not preferred, but are acceptable if necessary (see WP:PAYWALL). I do not know enough about athletics in the US to assess what you say about Baker's record, but WP:WikiProject Athletics is a group of editors interested in the subject, and I will tomorrow post a message on their talk page asking for more informed opinions.
If you request a change of username at WP:CHU you will not have to input your material again. All that will happen is that the name on your user and talk pages will change. Your existing contributions will (maybe after a short delay) be reassigned to your new name.
You can reply below here - I will watch this talk page, and that will keep the conversation in one place. Regards, JohnCD (talk) 23:02, 1 February 2016 (UTC)
