Welcome!

edit

Hello, Larizdibartolo, and welcome to Wikipedia! My name is Ian and I work with Wiki Education; I help support students who are editing as part of a class assignment.

I hope you enjoy editing here. If you haven't already done so, please check out the student training library, which introduces you to editing and Wikipedia's core principles. You may also want to check out the Teahouse, a community of Wikipedia editors dedicated to helping new users. Below are some resources to help you get started editing.

Please do not add promotional material to Wikipedia, as you did to Common sunflower. While objective prose about beliefs, organisations, people, products or services is acceptable, Wikipedia is not a vehicle for soapboxing, advertising or promotion. Write in neutral language, WP:NPOV and use secondary sources in support of new content, WP:RS. Zefr (talk) 16:02, 21 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

  Please stop your disruptive editing.

If you continue to disrupt Wikipedia, as you did at Common sunflower, you may be blocked from editing. You added redundant unsourced information (Chernobyl) that is already discussed. Slow down and read WP:MOS and WP:RS. Zefr (talk) 16:37, 21 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

I dont think what im posting is "disruptive". Larizdibartolo (talk) 21:19, 21 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

Wikipedia style and scope of articles

edit

A different editor jumping in here because while everything Zefr said was accurate, but I think what they wrote is a little difficult to understand. Keep in mind that this is my opinion of what is wrong with the information you were trying to add to the Common sunflower page, not theirs.

One is that the information about phytoremediation it too long. The page you were editing is about sunflowers so it needs to be focused on the plant and not another subject. See Wikipedia:Scope for more information.

The second is that the language you are using is too flowery. Phrases like "One remarkable example" is not very neutral. See Wikipedia:Neutral point of view for more information.

The third is that each factual claim should have a reference to a secondary source. You added a whole paragraph that had no citations and made several factual claims. See Wikipedia:Verifiability for more information.

Beyond that I think that the information about "Project Sprout in New Orleans" is probably not notable and should not be added to the page. 🌿MtBotany (talk) 17:45, 21 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

phytoremediation is what im trying to focus on for its one of my requirements and since there is not much information is provided on wiki. Larizdibartolo (talk) 21:22, 21 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
There is a well-sourced and developed article on phytoremediation - perhaps you could edit there. Beginning with this edit, 1) your edit summary indicated you are sharing your username with someone else - this is not allowed, as Wikipedia requires one user only as responsible for edits; 2) your edit repeated content already existing in the common sunflower article; 3) your edit seemed promotional in tone - see WP:NPOV, 4) your subhead was in caps and did not follow WP:MOS; and 5) you added content with no source.
As you are a student and new to Wikipedia, errors are likely, but there should be someone reviewing and approving your edit before it is published. I and other editors had to check your contribution for accuracy and quality. Your instructor is responsible for following content, sourcing and style rules in coordination with the students learning how to edit the encyclopedia. As a new editor, please make sure your edits are screened. Zefr (talk) 21:35, 21 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
It has to be on this specific plant i am assigned on, i needed to edit under common sunflower. I am not sharing my username else where it might have been on the computer lab i was at earlier today and i had trouble signing in from that device and used my computer instead. I have not finished citing yet and the content was already taken down. As a new student user in wikipedia i am still trying to find my way around. Your edit summary did say "we" (with Kelle), so it seemed to be a team edit. Your course began in early September; 2.5 months later seems enough time to practice and learn basic WP:MOS. Noutsosc should be teaching and monitoring; note also to Helaine (Wiki Ed). At the risk of assuming you need an assignment done before Thanksgiving, the course ends in early December, so time remains after the holiday - I wish you good luck. Yes because this is done by group in this course technically doesnt mean shes using my account. This is not the only course i am taking. Wishing you all the best! Have an amazing one! :) Larizdibartolo (talk) 23:19, 21 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
