Learning about Wiki

I'm extremely glad that you are my mentor, not just because of the help you give me or others. The main reason I'm glad you're my mentor is that I learn from all of your edits and the way you deal with problems on wiki. I think that the best way I learn is by watching the way you deal with wiki and it's users and I've not come across another editor that is more admirable. Trust me, I don't mind you making mistakes but I'm suprised that you make so few, if any. Anyhow, I know I have so much to learn and you inspire me everyday I come here to be thoughtful in the way that I interact with this database of knowledge and thought. Good work. I'm glad but suprised that people don't utilise such a valuable tool. I'm not much help at this early stage but I envisage being an extremely useful editor in a few years time. Hopefully an admin. IP blanking his own talk-page

What should be done about an IP who blanks his own warnings? [1] Lympathy ^Talk 12:03, 12 August 2008 (UTC)

Per WP:BLANKING, they're allowed to. The only thing they can't remove is reviewed unblock requests, confirmed sockpuppetry notices and {{sharedIP}} notices. Just continue with the regular warning schedule. –xeno (talk) 12:20, 12 August 2008 (UTC)

Adjusting time

I've created a time section on my homepage User:Lympathy. I'm not sure if it's possible to alter it to my am/pm timezone. I've tried a few things but it doesn't seem to work, not sure if you have any ideas? Lympathy ^Talk 16:44, 26 August 2008 (UTC)

Adoption Classroom

As I'm starting to slowly get organised about the classroom tasks given as per User:Xenocidic/wikiadopt and I'm just wondering how you would like to be notified of current progress or review of tasks. I've created a subpage that allows me to keep track of my progress at User:Lympathy/Class which caters for a review date and result. Would you like to visit this page when you're free to review or would you prefer me to give a more formal notification that a review would be nice or something else entirely? Looks very nice and organized! You can feel free to just let me know in the notification section when something is ready to be reviewed. I am going to be a little busy over the next week or two for the launch of Viva Piñata: Trouble in Paradise as I'm helping out administering, editing and cleaning up at the Viva Pinata Wiki, but I should be able to review any completed assignments within a day or two of notification. –xeno (talk) 17:48, 27 August 2008 (UTC)

Adopting another user

User:Jim Beam Employee is asking to be adopted and I was trying to find somebody suitable and I thought, why couldn't I adopt them? I realise that whilst I'm an adoptee I shouldn't adopt anyone but I thought this might work due to the different experience levels and that this user only seems interested in a small area (ie. Jim Beam). I guess it could be good practice for me and you could always supervise if you wanted to. Your thoughts? Lympathy ^Talk 14:55, 2 September 2008 (UTC)

I don't see why not, in fact I've just boldly removed the portion from the criteria that says adopters cannot be adoptees. You should keep in mind that he's most likely editing with a conflict of interests and his username violates our policy. –xeno (talk) 15:00, 2 September 2008 (UTC)

Article length

I struggle a bit with this. I always think that articles should be fairly concise and link to new articles if need be. It seems that there are a lot of users who prefer to pack all the info into one article. I guess my question is, when is it too much? Lympathy ^Talk 17:02, 16 October 2008 (UTC)

It's really tough to say. If articles start to get over 75k then it's definitely time to think about a split. However some articles don't have a topic that can logically be split off... I guess we really take things on a case-by-case basis... –xeno (talk) 17:08, 16 October 2008 (UTC)

Yes it is tough. I just think that new articles often get attacked more harshly than existing articles that contain much more unreferenced material and info that adds little to the article. Lympathy ^Talk
