Cape Leeuwin Wattle

Noted a red link on one of your recents - bloody great story there von Mueller spreading something which becomes a weed (!) - I might try to fix it up a bit more for a DYK today - but scuse the intrusion - the Australian project appears to not have inter-ecological region weeds articles or categories - we have eastern states species as damned annoying weeds here and the cape leeuwin wattle vice versa over east - will have to tackle my biota savvy friends on this as the current categoris do not appear to have adequate provision to identify as such. Cape Leeuwin was one of my favourite locations of my youth - when I was able to get there SatuSuro 03:01, 28 September 2008 (UTC)

Great stuff! I usually to try to fix up my own redlinks, but some are a bit too specialist. I completely agree about the need to establish more detailed categories in the ecological area. Maias (talk) 09:58, 28 September 2008 (UTC)

It seems to make sense (apart from some victorian articles that are next to it and dont mention it all :) and seems to be filling ok so far - the ferry articles quality is atrocious and I have reintroduced a link to the triangle article after reading loneys very unhelpful list book while on a ferry on low swell a few weeks back - the idea of a 20m swell bothers me but probably explains most of the triangle rubbish very easily. Proposed deletion of Birds Australia Capricornia

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Birds Australia Capricornia, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:

Non-notable association. No independent evidence of notability provided

All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Light-mantled Albatross

Hey thanks for the Copy edit on that section, I do realize that I do not have the best writing skills. I do however have two points I would bring up. First, I feel that the point of seawater a worthy point to make and I will re-add that in, if you want to re-look at it. Second, I have used that same paragraph sometimes with variations on all of the Albatross family. Again thanks for looking and fixing what I try to get across as encyclopedia quality material. speednat (talk) 03:03, 15 March 2009 (UTC)

Hi Speednat. No problems with you readding stuff I may have removed. The seawater thing is largely covered by the term 'osmatic balance', but I guess that that is a bit technical and your phrasing was more user-friendly. You are doing a great job expanding the article. Maias (talk) 03:09, 15 March 2009 (UTC)

Since I have used similar or identical paragraphs on the Albatrosses, can I use your version instead? speednat (talk) 05:13, 15 March 2009 (UTC)

I've been doing a bit of work referencing Lord Howe Island, and came upon the totally unreferenced Flora and Fauna section. What makes this] a reliable source? It's bound to be queried if this article goes to FA since it gives no primary sources, and it's not clear to me who is producing it, so it doesn't have the built-in credibility of a BTO or RSPB page. It read as a mix of OR and stuff lifted from Wikipedia. I think we should take out this link and the attacks on barley crops unless you know of a proper source for that information (Madge has this behaviour for Red-billed, but doesn't state it for Alpine. jimfbleak (talk) 06:39, 31 May 2009 (UTC)

Isabelline

Hi, just an FYI that I tweaked the Isabelline article a little to reflect the way the term is used within the horse world and how it works genetically in horses. It's basically an obscure word for us, seen more in Europe and in non-English languages than in English, but basically describes a light palomino or cremello. But it is not in any way a form of albino or leucism in horses. In fact, cremello breeders pretty much go through the roof and throw fits at the very thought, as some forms of "albino" are lethal in horses, but cream dilution is not. See White (horse) if interested. Thanks. Montanabw(talk) 04:40, 1 June 2009 (UTC)

Hi Montanabw - thanks for the info. I had considered doing a separate article for 'Isabellinism', but don't have sufficient info or sources so just added a small section to 'Isabelline' which is obviously an article on colour rather than genetics. Anyway, 'isabellinism' is virtually synonymous with leucism.

Eurasian Sparrowhawk

Thanks for taking a look at my Eurasian Sparrowhawk article. I'm pretty pleased with it so far, but it'd be good to get some tips on how to progress further. Thanks! Bogbumper (talk) 08:11, 18 November 2009 (UTC)

Hi Bogbumper; I guess the next step is to get a peer review (see here), and, if that does not get quick results, a mention of the article on the project talk page with a request for assistance. There are a few project members who are very experienced in the process of upgrading articles to GA and FA. Go for it! Maias (talk) 13:01, 18 November 2009 (UTC)
Hi, thanks for your advice. I already tried a peer review but didn't get much of a response. Perhaps I'll go for the talk page instead. Thanks. Bogbumper (talk) 21:13, 19 November 2009 (UTC)

Udawalawe National Park

Thank you very much for the copy edits. The article reads betters now. How ever I corrected Samanalawewa Dam link. Samanalawewa reservoir is located little up in the Walawe river. Refer the map. http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=6.438344,80.888456&spn=0.01,0.01&t=m&q=6.438344,80.888456. But no worries, I guess many Sri Lankans might mess it. Keep up the good work. Regards!--Chanaka L (talk) 03:19, 20 November 2009 (UTC)

Hi Chanakal - thanks for your message. I guess I jumped to conclusions regarding the dam, so thanks again for correcting me. I am enjoying reading your contributions on Sri Lankan national parks; they make me want to go there. Maybe one day... Cheers. Maias (talk) 03:27, 20 November 2009 (UTC)
Please do visit here, Maias. I enjoyed much reading your bird articles too, Make me wanna see them. I am thinking of creating the article, List of endemic birds of Sri Lanka. Will let you know then. Regards.--Chanaka L (talk) 03:41, 20 November 2009 (UTC)

Re the question of verification for Old Malvernians: as far as James Rousseau is concerned, the is online an article that appeared in the UK's Independent newspaper in 1999 reporting on how Rousseau became a top international model while he was still at the school. Ian Mason

Hi! It seems you recently created an unreferenced biography of a living person: Ian Mason. Our verifiability policy requires that all content be cited to a reliable source. Please add references as soon as possible. Thanks! --LaraBot (talk) 00:11, 7 January 2010 (UTC)

Hi Larabot - and bless your little algorithmic innards - I only created the page as a redirect to the referenced Ian J. Mason. The redirect page was later turned into a BLP page by an anon user. Your work is appreciated but your attention needs to be directed to User:222.154.142.84. Maias (talk) 00:25, 7 January 2010 (UTC)

Biographies

I think that the most commonly used name of a person is used for the page name. So if Ian Mason is known by this name then his page would be "Ian Mason (ornithologist)" rather than Ian J. Mason, if disambiguation is needed. Similarly, I do not think that the former page "Ian Mason" should have been moved to "Ian Robert Mason", but if disambig is needed then it could be moved to "Ian Mason (cricketer)". I do not think that a dab page is needed for only two pages like this one; Ian Mason. Snowman (talk) 21:47, 7 January 2010 (UTC)

Hi Snowman. I think Ian J. Mason is probably the best title for his page at the moment as that is how his name appears where I have come across it, mainly as the coauthor of various books. Sure you could make it Ian Mason (ornithologist), or (taxonomist) or (writer) or (collection manager), but simply Ian J. Mason reflects how the name is generally met with. I also think a dab page (even for, at present, only two names) is the simplest and most elegant way of dealing with any potential ambiguity. Cheers. Maias (talk) 23:16, 7 January 2010 (UTC)

Malvern College

Hi Maias/Archive 3! The Old Malvernians/alumnae section that you contributed to in Malvern College finally got so long that it had to be split off into a separate list page. In doing so, it's been found that for many of those noble people there is no actual proof that they ever went to the school. However, they probably did, and the entries were made in good faith. Nevertheless, the rules require everything in the encyclopedia to be verifiably sourced. It would be great therefore, if you could take a look at the list and help out if you can with providing some references. The people all have their own Wiki articles, but it is no guarantee that the mentions of Malvern College (if any) are correctly cited. Thanks. --Kudpung (talk) 17:07, 10 January 2010 (UTC)

Hi Kudpung - I have added the reference to the notable alumni page of Carl Alexander Gibson-Hill having attended Malvern College, as requested. I note, however, that it was referenced on his page anyway. Cheers. Maias (talk) 03:12, 11 January 2010 (UTC)
