Replaceable fair use File:Al-Baath Vanguards Recruitment.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading File:Al-Baath Vanguards Recruitment.jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{Di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. – Train2104 (t • c) 00:33, 24 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

Train2104: I already wrote my argument regarding the photo inclusion, I do not own a photo for that article for documentation, I tagged that photo as replaceable as anyone can post a picture regarding the topic, but it should be related to the description of the Al-Baath party involvement. However, it is up to you to keep it or not. Mark Mercer (talk) 16:21, 24 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

Sources

edit

Hello, Mark, thank you for creating new articles. At the moment, they are in danger of being moved to the draftspace, because they have no clear sources, such as Saudi Arabian Basketball Federation. Please add sources to the articles you have created. Best wishes, Boleyn (talk) 16:07, 24 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

Boleyn: All the newly created articles are about basketball associations, in which the info are dependent on their official websites in the External links section. Mark Mercer (talk) 16:14, 24 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

Thanks, Mark, is that the same for your other creations like Arida, Lebanon? 'External links' section is essentially 'friendly suggestion for further reading'. I have changed the heading to 'Sources' or 'References' to make it clear where you got the information If they are WP:INLINECITED, it makes it much easier for other editors and easier for readers to use as research, but the main thing is to have your sources there in some clear form. Best wishes, Boleyn (talk) 16:28, 24 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

I've now fixed all except Arida, Lebanon because I don't know what your source was there, please make it clear in the article. The rest are sorted and reviewed, which means they have passed New Page Patrol and can now be indexed by Google. Thanks for taking the time to create them. Best wishes, Boleyn (talk) 16:48, 24 November 2017 (UTC)Reply
Mark, you're continuing to create unreferenced articles such as Chnaniir. Please stop and add sources to your unreferenced articles: Chnaniir, Arida, Lebanon, Daraoun etc. I'm surprised that you have created at least 2 completely unreferenced artcles, despite our previous discussion. Please don't create any more withour sources. Boleyn (talk) 17:05, 26 November 2017 (UTC)Reply
Dear Boleyn, These are villages which are referenced by their maps and coordinates. Please keep them. Mark Mercer (talk) 17:07, 26 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for responding, Mark. There is no indication in the articles where the maps and co-ordinates come from - whether WP:OR or a WP:RS. Please add at least one reliable source to each article you have created. Best wishes, Boleyn (talk) 17:21, 26 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

Boleyn: The coordinates are the sources themselves. You can check the villages on the maps. Mark Mercer (talk) 17:29, 26 November 2017 (UTC)Reply
Your sources need to be clear to anyone looking at the article - a references section with them listed and preferably WP:INLNIECITED. Best wishes, Boleyn (talk) 18:07, 26 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

Please do not add or change content, as you did at Francisc Mészáros, without citing a reliable source. Please review the guidelines at Wikipedia:Citing sources and take this opportunity to add references to the article. Thank you. GiantSnowman 14:16, 29 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

@GiantSnowman: you can check each article of the teams which he managed, we will find his name there ! Mark Mercer (talk) 14:33, 29 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

@GiantSnowman: You only want to delete the edits without disproving the content ! at least FIVE sections (2 templates and 3 articles) mention where he managed, yet you consider this edit war is personal ! I have the main edits and if you want to undo, you have to disprove, not by tagging lame justifications such as the one you wrote. Mark Mercer (talk) 16:57, 29 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

Boleyn: Can you please have a look into this edit war for this article Francisc Mészáros. Mark Mercer (talk) 17:00, 29 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

It's not an edit war, you are repeatedly adding unsourced information to articles, see WP:3RRNO. You have already been told that citing other Wikipedia articles is not enough. PS @Boleyn: (seeing as you don't know how to ping)...GiantSnowman 20:26, 29 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

Before adding a category to an article, as you did to Myriam Klink, please make sure that the subject of the article really belongs in the category that you specified according to Wikipedia's categorization guidelines. Categories must also be supported by the article's verifiable content. Categories may be removed if they are deemed incorrect for the subject matter. Thank you. ☾Loriendrew☽ (ring-ring) 01:39, 30 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

Hi, Mark. A few years ago I did some similar editing - there is a real lack of articles on English Members of Parliament from before the 20th century, and all the information was in tables in the constituency articles. I used that information to create unreferenced articles on the MPs, figuring that the information was in at least one Wikipedia table (sometimes more than one). I really got into it and created loads of articles - it then turned out about 10% of the information on the tables was wrong in some way. I got a lot of abuse and it was horrible, but I remained sure of myself and so carried on creating the articles. It took quite a while to fix it all and a lot of other editors helped me. I really wish I'd not trusted anything I found on Wikipedia without checking the source carefully, and although the information you're adding is probably correct, we do need to verify things before we add them. Category:People executed by hanging

edit

Hello. Please note that articles are categorized as far down in the category hierarchy as possible, without duplication in the parent categories above. See WP:SUBCAT. Consequently, John Brown (abolitionist), Gabriel Prosser, and Nat Turner—all of whom belong to Category:People executed by Virginia by hanging—don't also belong in the parent categories Category:People executed by the United States by hanging, Category:People executed by hanging, or Category:People. Thank you. — Malik Shabazz Talk/Stalk 04:42, 2 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

WikiProjects and Resources

edit

Hi Mark,

I've noticed you have created a number of new articles. You might be interested in participating in communities with editors editing similar topics, such as Wikipedia:WikiProject Lebanon and Wikipedia:WikiProject Syria. They may be able to provide some support to improve your edits.

If you are having difficulty finding sources, Wikipedia:WikiProject_Resource_Exchange and Wikipedia:List of online newspaper archives might also be useful. You can also refer to the foreign-language equivalent Wikipedia to try and trace some of the sources you need for writing new articles. - Mailer Diablo 17:03, 3 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

Copying within Wikipedia requires proper attribution

edit

Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you copied or moved text from Hassan Abbas into Abdel Kader Rifai. While you are welcome to re-use Wikipedia's content, here or elsewhere, Wikipedia's licensing does require that you provide attribution to the original contributor(s). When copying within Wikipedia, this is supplied at minimum in an edit summary at the page into which you've copied content, disclosing the copying and linking to the copied page, e.g., copied content from [[page name]]; see that page's history for attribution. It is good practice, especially if copying is extensive, to also place a properly formatted {{copied}} template on the talk pages of the source and destination. The attribution has been provided for this situation, but if you have copied material between pages before, even if it was a long time ago, please provide attribution for that duplication. You can read more about the procedure and the reasons at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. Thank you. If you are the sole author of the prose that was moved, attribution is not required. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 14:33, 5 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

Non-free use of File:Syria FA.png

edit

This file’s non-free was previously discussed at Wikipedia:Files for discussion/2016 February 24#File:Syria FA.png and the file was removed from the team articles as a result by an administrator. If you want clarification of this, please discuss things with the closing administrator per WP:CLOSECHALLENGE. Just for reference, removing non-free files per the result of a FFD discussion is consider an exception to the three-revert rule per WP:NOT3RR, but repeatedly re-adding files contrary to an FFD result is considered edit warring and disruptive, and will lead to WP:AN3. So, discuss your concerns with the closing admin and see what they have to say. — Marchjuly (talk) 16:54, 6 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

Ways to improve Al-Qasim, Iraq

edit

Hi, I'm Gatemansgc. Mark Mercer, thanks for creating Al-Qasim, Iraq!

I've just tagged the page, using our page curation tools, as having some issues to fix. Considering how many stub city articles there are on Wikipedia, I don't see why this shouldn't exist.

The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, you can leave a comment on my talk page. Or, for more editing help, talk to the volunteers at the Teahouse.

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Sanhan District, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Sanhan (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Speedy deletion nomination of Mouhanad Boushi

edit

Hello Mark Mercer,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Mouhanad Boushi for deletion, because it seems to be an article that was created in violation of a block or ban. Content created by banned users will be deleted immediately.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions.

Proposed deletion of Nabil Al Shahmeh

edit

The article Nabil Al Shahmeh has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

BLP. Fails GNG and BIO. Soruces in the article are promo and primary. Found nothing that meets SIGCOV addressing the subject directly and indepth from IS RS.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.  // Timothy :: talk  17:13, 14 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
