Replacing Firefly reminder

[edit source]

Before /Archive_16#Replacing_Firefly was archived, you had asked me to send you a reminder. And I was reminded when I saw this today: Request WP:Requests for undeletion § Draft:God is my Co-Pilot (1943 Book) came because it was the second G13 for this draft, and the 1-month warnings go for the first G13 only, not subsequent ones. Jay 06:59, 14 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

Also, in the archived thread, you had asked me for any cases where FireflyBot failed to notify a draft creator. It appears the 1-month G13 warning did not go out for Draft:Sheikhzadas of Lucknow. Jay 15:18, 4 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
Sorry for the late reply. I don't mind adding this, but I'm not sure I like the idea of running a separate task just to catch the notifications FireflyBot misses while FireflyBot still handles the rest. It feels like we'd be splitting one job between two bots. Since my bot already has an approved backup task and FireflyBot has been inactive maintenance wise for quite a while (Firefly last edited 1 year 9 months ago), maybe it makes more sense to look at replacing the whole 30 day task notification instead. FireflyBot's other active task would still need someone to take it over though. Pinging @Primefac for their thoughts. – DreamRimmer 15:52, 4 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
If there are improvements/changes needed for a bot that is still running but not maintained, and a willing botop to take over the task, then I don't see any issue with that. Fortunately FireflyBot has shutoffs for each individual task, so it's not like we need to kill the entire bot just to tweak one task. I could see an extension of DR's bot task to be the main bot rather than the backup (though any improvements would need their own BRFA as an extension operation probably). Primefac (talk) 22:40, 4 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
I agree we should not have a bot catch another bot's misses. I just mentioned it because you had asked for examples earlier. For the 2nd and subsequent warnings, if we can have DreamRimmer bot do that, instead of waiting for someone to take up ownership of Firefly, that will significantly reduce the load at WP:RfU. A lot of requests at RfU come minutes or hours after a G13 deletion, just because the editor was not aware that their draft is going to be deleted. Today's case: WP:Requests for undeletion § Draft:Ralph Axelrod (politician). Jay 05:13, 6 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

Bot stopped updating

[edit source]

Hi,

It looks like the August 2026 Unreferenced article backlog drive leaderboard was updating hourly but stopped at 09:15 this morning.

Could you please wake your bot back up...?

(Or should we feed it anything?) Cielquiparle (talk) 19:32, 4 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

Fixed. – DreamRimmer 03:38, 5 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
Many thanks! Cielquiparle (talk) 03:47, 5 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

My talk page archive button missing

[edit source]

Hey. It's been a long time since we had a chit chat. Hope you are doing well. I don't know what has happened because the archive button from my talk page is missing. This same problem happened few weeks ago. That time I reinstalled or did something after which the one click archiver button again showed up. Few days ago the same problem happened. I thought it would automatically fix. But it's been quite a long time and I need to archive some of the topics in my talk page. Since I personally that know you are one of the most technical knowledgeable person in the site, I thought of directly coming and asking to you. Any guesses what could be the problem? Thilsebatti (talk) 02:58, 9 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

I'm good, it's really nice to hear from you after such a long time. Hope all is well with you too. I checked your common.js and it looks like you have two archiving scripts installed. Please remove the last one and keep Elli's. I've added a config to your talk page, so the archive button should work now. You should see the archive option on the right of each section. Let me know if you have any trouble with it. – DreamRimmer 11:45, 9 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thanks a lot. It's working now. Thilsebatti (talk) 15:50, 9 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

Problem with the hashtag

[edit source]

Hello, I would like to remind you about the edit that I made on a wikipedia page. The leaderboard hasn't updated yet.

When I made an edit today, i forgot to put the "#AUG26" hashtag, so i made a dummy edit to include it and mentioned to check the previous edit. The wiki page is "OHSEAN." Cookie cream38 (talk) 06:05, 9 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

I see your point has already been updated on the leaderboard. Is there anything else that needs my attention? – DreamRimmer 11:27, 9 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

Help with a mentee question

[edit source]

Hi DreamRimmer! Hope you are doing well. Are you able to reply to a mentee question at User talk:HouseBlaster#Question from Servis.006 (20:43, 9 August 2026)? It looks like Turkish, and you are listed in that section at WP:EMB. Best, HouseBlaster (talk • he/they) 20:55, 9 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

Nevermind; looks like this mentee got blocked. Best, HouseBlaster (talk • he/they) 23:22, 9 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

Could you do the same with these journals?

https://www.nature.com/siteindex

E.g.

  • Acta Pharmacologica Sinica / 10.1038/s41401-026-01850-5

There aren't all open access, but I can easily figure out which are. Headbomb {t · c · p · b} 07:54, 11 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

Those are likely journals that moved to new publishers or haven't yet been published. Either way, thanks a bunch, I can take care of the other 24 manually. Headbomb {t · c · p · b} 11:27, 11 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

Your new username and out-of-the-way wikis

[edit source]

Hey, this is nowhere near as bad as the previous situation and I think things are fine as they are now ... maybe you knew this already, but your new username was previously used by Linsenesser, who mostly previously edited the Esperanto Wikipedia and the Wiktionary in Faroese . So we have eo:User:Max, eo:User:Max/ludejo, eo:User talk:Max, fo:wikt:User talk:Max, nl:wikt:User talk:Max, and br:User:Max, all of which are not you. And there's also at least eo:Special:Contributions/Max, which is you. Just letting you know in case this might cause problems down the line and/or you want to do some redirect changing. Also I moved User:Max~enwiki, which was clearly created in the wrong place. Graham87 (talk) 01:04, 19 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

Thanks! I'll fix these when I'm on my computer later today. This happens with all usurpations since the usernames were previously used, so it's normal. The last one was a massive mess because I hadn't checked properly that time. Thanks again! Max (talk) 01:11, 19 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

AfC August Backlog Drive: Only ten days left!

[edit source]
Our pending drafts!

Hi Max, thanks for participating in the Articles for Creation August Backlog Drive! We've done amazing work so far, dropping the backlog by more than 3000 drafts already. We have around 1300 drafts outstanding, and we need your help to get that down to zero in the next 10 days. We can do this, but we need all hands on deck to help make it happen – if everyone who signed up to the drive reviewed just 1–2 drafts a day for the next ten days, we'd be down to zero in no time! A list of the pending drafts can be found at WP:AFCSORT, where you can select submissions in your area of interest, or you can find a random submission here. Thank you so much for your work so far, and happy reviewing! MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:20, 21 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

Welcome, Max!

[edit source]

Hello, Max,

Congratulations on the username change, Max! I'm surprised it was available for you to usurp, just like my own was in 2013 (I used to be nwjerseyliz until I discovered I could simply be Liz!). It will take a while to get used to but you'll discover that it's nice to have a username that folks don't have to cut and paste to get right!

Are you going to keep your bot names under their original names or will those be changing as well? I'm not sure how complicated or how many archive pages are involved for you to have to go back and alter them all.

Any way, I hope you are having a nice summer. Mine has been pretty dull but it's part of the process of me reorganizing my life (housing, insurances, financial matters, paperwork, paperwork, paperwork), which is long past necessary and will hopefully bring me joy in the future when I have fewer bumps or calamities that hit me unexpectedly. Sometimes normal=boring=no drama=more peace and that's not a bad place to be when you get older and life's roller coasters just raise your blood pressure. Take care, Liz Read! Talk! 20:40, 23 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

Thanks, Liz! I really appreciate it. And yes, I'll be keeping the bot names as they are. Hope things work out well with everything on your end too. Take care! Max (talk) 01:47, 24 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

New pages patrol September 2026 Backlog drive

[edit source]
September 2026 Backlog Drive | New pages patrol
  • On 1 September 2026, a one-month backlog drive for new pages patrol will begin at a particularly important time for NPP.
  • The backlog has now passed 30,000 unreviewed articles, a level that has been described in current NPP discussions as exceptionally high and potentially difficult to overcome through normal reviewing alone. Backlog drives are one of the few measures that have historically produced a noticeable reduction in the backlog, so the participation of as many active patrollers as possible will matter this month.
  • If you can review during September, please make articles your priority. Every article that is reviewed is a meaningful reduction in the backlog. With the queue at its current size, even a relatively small increase in the number of articles each patroller reviews can add up to a substantial difference over the course of the month.
  • This is a hybrid drive, so redirect reviewing is still included. Redirects can be a useful way for newer patrollers to get comfortable with NPP and can help people build up to reviewing articles. However, the main goal of this drive is to tackle the article backlog, and experienced patrollers are particularly encouraged to spend as much of their available reviewing time on articles as they can.
  • Barnstars will be awarded based on the number of articles and redirects patrolled.
  • Each article review will earn 1 point, while each redirect review will earn 0.2 points.
  • Streak awards will be given out based on consistently hitting point thresholds for each week of the drive.
  • Barnstars will also be granted for re-reviewing articles previously reviewed by other patrollers during the drive.
  • If you have been thinking about doing more NPP, this is an especially good month to jump in. Whether you can review a few pages or hundreds, every review helps. And if you are already an active patroller, please consider whether you can put in some additional time during September to help bring the backlog back under control.
  • Interested in taking part? Sign up here.
