Managing a conflict of interest
editHello, Patricia Welles. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about in the page Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:
- avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, company, organization or competitors;
- propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (see the {{request edit}} template);
- disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see WP:DISCLOSE);
- avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
- do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.
In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).
Also please note that editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thanks again for taking the time to contribute to Wikipedia. Another editor has removed your additions to Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice as they considered them to be self-promotion. When editors contribute to Wikipedia they must consider both whether the material they're adding is verifiable and also whether that information is relevant to the topic of the article, making sure to maintain a neutral point of view and not engage in self-promotion. In the case of your contribution to Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice, while I'm sure the content you added is verifiable, and I think the author of the novelization probably is sufficiently noteworthy information to be included in the article, the mention of another book that author has written probably is not. If you'd like to restore the removed information to the article please do feel free to do so but make sure to keep in mind the guidance above about what content is suitable for Wikipedia and, if you agree that you may have a conflict of interest in regard to the proposed information, follow the advice of the conflict of interest guideline (notably disclosing your conflict of interest and proposing your changes on the article talk page rather than actively editing the article itself). Sorry to barrage you with all this at once! If you have any questions or would like any advice, either on this topic or on anything else about Wikipedia, please feel free to ask. Best wishes!
