Slovenly is a word I find myself using quite a bit at the moment. Slovenly is what I think of anybody who leaves a message here about an article and fails to provide a wikilink to the article. How do you expect me to read the article if you don't link to it? Even if the article has been deleted, you should still link to it.
I reserve the right to ignore any message which does not provide links where appropriate, has no heading, is in the wrong place on this page or has not been signed with ~~~~.
And if that sounds like a grumpy old man, it's because I am ...

Image licences
How to check whether file that we are uploading on Wikipedia, it is copyright violation are not? -- FSCEM45212 (talk) 13:51, 22 October 2013 (UTC)
- Firstly, at your level of wiki-knowledge you should not be uploading to Wikipedia at all - you should only be uploading to the Commons. The quick easy answer is: only upload your own photographs which have never been published elsewhere on the web. Upload them in their original form, raw from your camera without any photoshopping.
- For images on the web: see if the page carries a Creative Commons licence declaration - for example this page. But even that is not enough - work through the following templates and you will soon see which licences are OK and which are not: {{cc-by-nc-sa-2.0}}, {{cc-by-nc-2.0}}, {{cc-by-nc-nd-2.0}} and {{cc-by-nd-2.0}} (group 1) or {{cc-by-2.0}}, {{cc-by-3.0}}, {{cc-by-sa-2.0}}, {{cc-by-sa-3.0}} and {{pd-author}} (group 2).
- If the web page has a different copyright notice then you probably may not upload it. If it has no copyright notice then you must assume "© all rights reserved" and you may not upload it.
- Feel free to submit specific examples for my consideration. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 22:49, 23 October 2013 (UTC)
Is this file a copyright violation? commons:file:Field_Marshal.jpg -- FSCEM45212 (talk) 13:14, 24 October 2013 (UTC)
- Almost certainly. I simply do not believe your claim of "own work". It is of very poor quality and looks like it has been blown up from some web source. Come clean - whence did you get it? Indeed I am very dubious about any of the "own work" claims made by Paksoldier on his insignia uploads. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 13:43, 24 October 2013 (UTC)
You can not find it on any web. It is only on Commons. Go and search for this image! :) Why are you doubting on me? --FSCEM45212 (talk) 08:48, 25 October 2013 (UTC)
- Please read this. Either way, that image is undesirable for use on Wikipedia - as RHaworth says, it is very poor quality. Special:Nuke/Paksoldier--Launchballer 09:50, 25 October 2013 (UTC)
- I am doubting you for the reasons stated above. But tell us exactly how you created it and we might believe you. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 10:07, 25 October 2013 (UTC)
I cannot understand this message from Wikipedia. Will you please explain it? My question is that "What should I do on this message?" -- FSCEM45212 (talk) 15:00, 31 October 2013 (UTC)
- For goodness sake, a) realise that the message did not come "from Wikipedia" but from a specific Wikipedia editor, Bellerophon (talk · contribs) and b) do not copy chunks of text - link to them. You have ignored the message anyway and made it live. We will see how it fares in article space. Seven For A Secret deleted
Hello, My name is Joe, drummer of the band Seven For A Secret. It has come to my attention that you have deleted my band's wikipedia page that our singer, Katie wrote yesterday. We are very much a real and active band, as shown by our Facebook page, Soundcloud, Twitter, and so on. I have no idea why you deleted it based on "(A7: Article about a band, singer, musician, or musical ensemble, which does not indicate the importance or significance of the subject)", which does not really make any sense at all. Hello RHaworth, Please block this Ujjwal234goel user, The user Ujjwal234goel again adding the unsourced material in Wikipedia after the last warning by Spinningspark. recently you deleted his one unsourced Paani Poori article. Thank you. 8.37.224.120 (talk) 13:53, 23 October 2013 (UTC)
- My final warning was five months ago. You might want to provide some diffs of problem edits that are more recent and diffs to where the user has been appropriately warned. By the way, the user did not create an unsourced article at Paani Poori, they created a redirect to Panipuri which was then both vandalised and nominated for speedy deletion by an IP from, strangely, the same IP range as you. Hi. I see you deleted my 'first draft' of a Wiki page. I was not able to revise or update once I saw the first message appear from Wiki on my page because I have been traveling on business.
I understand you said it was too 'advertising promotional' BUT, I never had a chance to correct or revise before you removed it. I am traveling on business trip and finding Internet connection spots can be challenging. I would really appreciate the chance to revise and would appreciate you giving me the opportunity to revise before deciding to approve or not.
I look forward to your response and I thank you in advance. I am currently in Australia but live in New York City. Sorry, I can't be as quick while traveling on business Geoff De Weaver — Preceding unsigned comment added by 121.216.226.99 (talk) 02:20, 24 October 2013 (UTC)

FrickiProject
Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Frick Collection and Frick Art Reference Library WikiProject.
Dear Roger: I would like to ask for your help with the above Afc submission. I already checked at the help desk, received confirmation that this topic is okay for a Wikiproject (I was skeptical, since the person starting it is an employee, and all edits were during business hours). However, the folks at the help desk agreed that Afc was not the best place to start a Wikiproject. I declined it, and left a message on the user's talk page saying that a Wikiproject had to be a group effort, and giving links about how to propose one. I received no reply, but today the user has instead been adding names of participants to the declined Afc submission, some of whom have no edits at all, some with just a few to Frick topics, and one established user who added him/herself. There has been no onWiki discussion among any of these people, so I have to assume that they are all colleagues of the user at Frick-related places. Am I worrying over nothing, or should I be asking for a sock-puppet investigation or an IP check or reporting this at the Administrator's noticeboard? I'm not even sure that this is against policy. —Anne Delong (talk) 17:28, 24 October 2013 (UTC)
- No. You should have assumed good faith and converted it into a WikiProject page. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 23:21, 24 October 2013 (UTC)

Userpage
Are you aware that with your most recent edit to your user page you have introduced the typo 'wass' to your userpage on the Commons and geo section?--Launchballer 19:31, 24 October 2013 (UTC)
- You are probably too young to remember 3½ inch "floppy" disks. I was throwing some out today and noted that the "high density" ones had a capacity of 1.44M bytes - think on that - one photo in your camera may well exceed that size. I come from the era of floppy disks and am still mean with disk space. Yes, I saw that typo - you missed 'cotribs' as another - but decided not to waste 13K bytes just to change two bytes - it could wait until my next useful edit. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 23:21, 24 October 2013 (UTC)

Be careful moving without leaving a redirect
When you did the page-moves associated with the AFC submission that later became Air bearing, the lack of a redirect caused some double-redirects to break. I fixed those that I spotted.
On another note, I also added a hatnote as this page used to be a redirect to a different article. Please double-check for inbound links when moving without leaving a redirect. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 16:51, 25 October 2013 (UTC)

Nanomonestotse
Hello, RHaworth. You deleted the Nanomonestotse page today. (Unfortunate timing, today being Nanomonestotse Celebration day here.) The reason you gave for deleting it was G12 copyright infringement. I think some recent edits to the page (including one by me) made it resemble one of the referenced articles. But I believe the referenced article is in the public domain. I would like to see the "Nanomonestotse" page restored. Can you please un-delete the page (and its history)? Then I can fix the copyright issue. If not, can you send the page's text to me? I will try to fix the copyright issue by:
(1) Verifying that the referenced page is in the public domain. (Does the page need to have a "public domain" notice?)
(2) If the reference is not public domain, I will modify the "Nanomonestotse" wikipedia article to avoid copying the reference.
Thank you. Peacefulvillage (talk) 05:22, 26 October 2013 (UTC)
I asked the referenced website to add a "public domain" notice. When they add the notice, will that be sufficient to un-delete the "Nanomonestotse" wikipedia article? Or will I still need to reword the article to avoid quoting the reference? Peacefulvillage (talk) 18:50, 26 October 2013 (UTC)
- Text emailed. I see that you have fixed the copyvio position already. But that is certainly not sufficient to persuade me to restore the article. There is the more serious question of notability. Of the six external links in the article, three are currently broken and one is a duplicate. Leaving two links neither of which satisfies our requirement for references to significant coverage in reliable, independent secondary sources. I am also very dubious about the image used: File:Nanomonestotse.jpg. If the uploader actually owns the copyright, why have they supplied a thumbnail instead of a decent resolution image? — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 01:30, 28 October 2013 (UTC)
OK, I've tried to fix broken links and improve the references. I agree that the references are not perfect, but now they're a little better. Maybe some of the other contributors can add some better references. I could put a request on the talk page, if you un-delete the article. (Regarding the image, the 307×230 photo doesn't look that small to me, but I could put a request for a better photo on the talk page.) Could you un-delete the article now? Thanks. Peacefulvillage (talk) 23:10, 28 October 2013 (UTC)
- Please do not clutter this page with article material. If you want me to review a new draft, place it in your sandbox and point me to it. Of course 307×230 is pathetically small by today's standards. The image looks like two children creating ball-and-stick chemical models and I would like to be able to zoom in on it to get a better view. If I were to restore the page, that would be an acknowledgement that I consider it a suitable subject for Wikipedia and I am far from convinced of that at this stage. But I have emailed you the text so what is stopping you from re-submitting? — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 00:46, 30 October 2013 (UTC)
I restored the page by re-creating it with my fixes. Unfortunately, the page now has no history. I was hoping to contact some of the other contributors to ask about better photos and references. Are you able to restore the history? Thanks. Peacefulvillage (talk) 02:58, 30 October 2013 (UTC)

- What a mess. First, free use images should always be uploaded to the Commons, not here. Just because the image has been supplied to you with an uninformative title, that is no reason why you should upload it to the Commons with the same title. As to permission, the depressing thing is that even though you have studied my user page closely enough to pick up typos, you have not read the first entry in the Personal how to's section. You must ask the copyright holder to send an email, not a ridiculous screenshot, to the address given stating explicitly that they release the image under {{cc-by-sa-3.0}}. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 00:05, 1 November 2013 (UTC)

You deleted this as an implausible redirect. I had created it after seeing that the term ranks at #12 in User:West.andrew.g/Popular_redlinks, with 9,193 views in one week. Mount Calvary (Anglican Use)
Hi, my article on Mount Calvary (Anglican Use) was deleted for alleged copyright violation. I disagree with this analysis, as I have all the grants of copyright needed, and I happen to spend most of my workdays dealing with copyright issues. But there is no point in arguing. I do not have enough time to make a whole article in one day and even now I am blowing off a practice with my band. I would greatly appreaciate it if you could email me both deleted article at [redacted]. Respectfully, Joe Schroth, leader of Foresaken Temple -- 96.32.38.51 (talk) 22:11, 2 November 2013 (UTC)Joe Schroth

Grandmaster Jay
Hello RHaworth. The page for Grandmaster Jay was deleted for having false information on it. The vandalism was corrected with proper information. Can tell us why it was deleted and what we need to do to get it back? Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.189.29.178 (talk) 19:49, 3 November 2013 (UTC)

I left a contest speedy deletion note at Stefan2's talk page. — Crtew (talk) 23:20, 3 November 2013 (UTC)
- So how did you expect me to see the message on Stefan2's talk page? The correct place to contest it was the file_talk page of the image. I dispute your claim that "a free image cannot be created". There must be photos in their family album if nowhere else. His brother is mentioned in the bio, ask him to find one. You can of course raise the matter at deletion review. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 00:09, 4 November 2013 (UTC)
With that kind of blanket generalization and reasoning, one could THEORETICALLY, of course, obtain a photo from anyone who had been alive since the invention of the pinhole camera. Luckily, copyright expires. So everyone alive, at least, since copyright expiry dates in various countries. The problem with your rationale is that it there is no way to justify what is practically possible and distinguish it from the theoretically possible. I, however, am making an argument from policy based on the WP:NFCC. Crtew (talk) 00:26, 4 November 2013 (UTC)
I'm very confident that your speedy delete will be reversed in DRV. Should we consider the matter closed so that I can start that process? Crtew (talk) 03:52, 4 November 2013 (UTC)
- "Consider the matter closed" - strange phrase. Of course it is not closed - you still want the image restored. But is further discussion with me pointless? Yes, it certainly is. I pointed you to DRV. There was no need for you to say anything more here. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 09:23, 4 November 2013 (UTC)
Per policy the closing needs to be cleared. Just dotting my i's! See you in DRV. Crtew (talk) 14:26, 4 November 2013 (UTC)

Quantum Archaeology Notes
Hi I'll try to attend an administrators meeting on this, but I reiterate I have the right under wiki rules to prepare a stub in my Sandbox.
secondly. I was in no wise breaching copyright on QA from a longecity forum post, since I wrote the article to submit as a stub to wiki and posted on Longecity & not the other way round.
thirdly. The wiki imputation or allegation I was not associated with Birkbeck Archaelogy department is false. As is an imputation google closed the QA site for violating copyright: I myself closed the QA leader page to rehouse the article on a different google url whilst I prepare it. I'm trying to prepare a Quantum Archaeology stub albeit slowly, and the Sandbox is a place to do it since wiki code is idiosyncratic and doesn't copy from other sites I could use.
That means once I've coded it elsewhere I have to do it over again on wiki. A QA stub was originally thrown off wiki for not being notable and orginal research: Google page: https://sites.google.com/site/quantumarchaeologyfile/
Kindly reinstate my sandbox.I don't have time to learn a highly idiosyncratic wiki system. — 188.29.48.71 (talk) 14:38, 4 November 2013 (UTC)

Thomas LaVeist Deletion
Hello,
I created the page for Thomas LaVeist and it was deleted citing copyright violations. I sent an email to wikipedia permissions from Thomas LaVeist giving permission to use the information as well as permission to use data from the sources that I cited (which he is also the owner of). I used a good portion of this information because I thought that wikipedia wanted quickly verifiable information. I never received an email from permission about whether they accepted the email from Dr. LaVeist. Should I send the email again? I also created another page International Conference on Health in the African Diaspora and had the same problem. I was told by the live chat help that I should just start from scratch but unfortunately, I would still run into the same problem if Wikipedia wanted to verify all the information. I could use some help. Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Pmensah1 (talk • contribs) 17:29, 4 November 2013 (UTC)
- I probably should be discouraging you because of your COI but you still deserve to have your emails replied to. I am surprised because I have never heard complaints like this about the OTRS team. Did you send your emails to the address given here? Send again and ask why your previous were ignored. Incidentally the LaVeist article would probably succeed but the ICHAD one stands a good chance of being rejected for lack of evidence of notability. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 21:43, 4 November 2013 (UTC)
Thank you for your prompt response. I'm not sure why I had the problem either. But I appreciate all the help. I will work on that right now. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Pmensah1 (talk • contribs) 21:59, 4 November 2013 (UTC)
DelPhi article deletion
RHaworth, You recently deleted the DelPhi software page on the basis of copyright infringement. My lab group has now added the proper copyleft licenses on all of the necessary web pages and would like to recreate the page with the original information. I have the original formatted text that was on the page, but would like your input before I reinstate this page. Cited source. — Nwilddev (talk) 18:01, 4 November 2013 (UTC)
- Kindly have the decency to wait until someone with no COI thinks your software is notable and writes about it here. If you insist on trying to force an article in, you will need to provide references to significant coverage in reliable, independent secondary sources otherwise it will get deleted again. I hope you noted this edit summary: "anything past the lede of this article is essentially OR. Wikipedia is not here to serve as the documentation repository for your software project". Anything longer than about 4k bytes is likely to get pruned. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 21:43, 4 November 2013 (UTC)
There was an edit which had no conflict of interest. Before I started editing the page, ProteinChemistUser (or some other similar name) had edited the page and had only left a brief summary of the software project. It was similar to many of the pages in the Molecular Modelling Software list. I mentioned this in my request to review the deletion, but it was overlooked. Would it be possible to just revert the page to this edit? Nwilddev (talk) 17:38, 5 November 2013 (UTC)
- Restored. An article that has survived six years deserves better than speedy deletion. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 20:21, 5 November 2013 (UTC)

Gulistan
Dear concern, I wrote my first article Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Gulistan, Dhaka. As I am new here so do not know the rules and regulations very well. The article was in Wikipedia but recently you've moved it to article creation and re instated AFC tag. Do I have to do any correction so that it will be on the Wikipedia again? Can you please tell me what was the mistake i made so that you have to do that? Please help me in this. — Afrin.Danny (talk) 21:49, 5 November 2013 (UTC)
- My name is not concern!! OK, come clean, what the <expletive deleted/> is going on: two people with suspiciously similar user names, you and Afrin.Islam (talk · contribs) have both created articles about Gulistan. I have merged your edits to Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Gulistan, Dhaka. Both you texts are currently a very long way from being an encyclopedia article. They are more like a travel guide - "try US$1 for a T-shirt" indeed! Do you seriously think that belongs in Wikipedia? And neither of you could manage to provide a {{coord}} tag. I have changed the AfC tag back to "not currently submitted" to give you both a chance to knock the piece into shape. Even if you think it is ready for mainspace, do not move it - that will be done by the AfC reviewer if the article is accepted. Please tell Afrin.Islam to stop putting <br/> into articles - they are very rarely needed and certainly his were not. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 22:48, 5 November 2013 (UTC)
I've made some changes to the page Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Gulistan, Dhaka. Can you please give me some feedback? Previously I lost my password as I did not put my email id during account creation and could not retrieve it. So, Afrin.Islam is my lost account. And could not made the correction to my deleted post. As I said I'm new and this is my first article I'm trying, so please help me to make it. — Afrin.Danny (talk) 13:44, 6 November 2013 (UTC)
- Salutations are not used on talk pages; no need for a new section for each comment, please add new comments to the section in question; please learn wikilinks.--Launchballer 13:58, 6 November 2013 (UTC)
- Launchballer, at least give him credit for saluting me as RHaworth. Note that he called me "concern" above.
- Afrin, OK so you created a new account. Did you intend to clean up the mess left behind by Afrin.Islam (talk · contribs)? Indeed why did you start a new article AfC submission instead of editing the one you had already created? Please reply. The new article does not look significantly better. Wait and see what the AfC reviewer thinks and follow their suggestions. You want feedback? Look at articles on subjects similar to yours - start with category:suburbs of Mumbai. If you actually read these articles, you will see how far your submission is from a Wikipedia article. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 23:32, 6 November 2013 (UTC)
I clarified earlier why I had to create a new account. And If I don't have the password how can I clean up the mess?Afrin.Danny (talk) 05:17, 7 November 2013 (UTC)
- Please answer my question: why did you start a new article AfC submission instead of editing the one you had already created? That would have done the requisite cleanup and did not require you to know your forgotten password. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 12:13, 8 November 2013 (UTC)
Could you please explain to me which speedy deletion criteria you used for deleting this image? Your edit summary of "replaced by png" is not very helpful in this regard. Thank you, Aspects (talk) 03:45, 6 November 2013 (UTC)
- For goodness sake! Within the context, surely it was patently obvious that the message meant: replaced by File:QueenSnowWhite.png. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 09:46, 6 November 2013 (UTC)
You still did not answer my question of which speedy deletion criteria you used for deleting the image. Aspects (talk) 10:06, 8 November 2013 (UTC)
- OK pedant, F1 is not applicable because different format. Surely G6 is applicable? If you see some potential controversy, please raise the matter at DRV but be sure to add this, this and this image. Also have a word with Niemti (talk · contribs) who applied the speedy tags to all four of these images. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 11:32, 8 November 2013 (UTC)
- But never mind what I did, let us move forward - when I encounter a case like this in the future, what deletion reason do you want me to give? — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 13:08, 8 November 2013 (UTC)
- Speedy deletions only cover the cases specified and G6 would not apply because this is not uncontroversial maintenance. If you encounter a case like this in the future of, you should decline the speedy deletion because it does not fit any of the requirements and advise the nominator about taking the image to Wikipedia:Files for deletion or the image could be tagged as being orphaned, F5, and the image could be deleted after seven days, but it would at least have time for other editors to notice and comment on the image.
- In this case, Niemti and I were having a content dispute about whether a jpg screenshot, File:QueenSnowWhite.jpg, or a png third-party illustration, File:Evil Queen Grimhilde.png, should be used in the infobox at Queen Grimhilde. It looks like (since I cannot tell) that Niemti uploaded a new (different) jpg image on top of the previous (original) jpg image, then uploaded the same new (different) png image at File:QueenSnowWhite.png, incorrectly speedy tagged the new (different) jpg image as WP:SPEEDY#F1 and you deleted it since it looked the same. In my opinion, Niemti is gaming the system and requesting the speedy deletion in bad faith, also because it looks like Niemti failed to notify the original uploader of the speedy deletion. You should reverse your deletion of all four images, contact Niemti about incorrectly speedy deletion tagging and in the future you should include in your edit summary a link to which criteria you used to delete the image like I have seen most other admin do. If necessary, I guess I can take them all to DRV, but I feel this is something that should be handled by you since it could be a pattern of bad editing by Niemti. Restoration request
RHaworth, would you be willing to restore the deleted article "Brooklyn Nights" for me? I had previously requested that it be deleted, believing it would not be appearing on Lady Gaga's album Artpop, but it turns out the song will be included as a bonus track. I would like to at least restore this as a redirect to the album (almost all Lady Gaga songs have articles or redirects due to her popularity). Your assistance would be much appreciated. --Another Believer (Talk) 21:22, 6 November 2013 (UTC)
- You mean to say that you can provide a link to other articles but neglect to link to the article itself? How slovenly.--Launchballer 22:01, 6 November 2013 (UTC)
You just mean the link to "Brooklyn Nights"? Sorry, if that's what you mean. --Another Believer (Talk) 22:15, 6 November 2013 (UTC)
- This is positively surreal - you have keyed about 1kb in asking me to restore a 20 byte redirect. Would it not have been easier to simply recreate the redirect? Please do not waste my time. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 23:32, 6 November 2013 (UTC)
I wasn't sure if it was preferable to resurrect the former version for any reason, or to explain my actions to the person who deleted the article. Geez... --Another Believer (Talk) 05:08, 7 November 2013 (UTC)
Mohammed Habib
Hello RHaworth, Can you tell me the reason why my page Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Mohammed Habib : Indian Football Legend has been deleted. Regards. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 183.83.217.23 (talk) 13:54, 7 November 2013 (UTC)
- Please create an account and learn wikilinks. Your page screamed "delete me" even before one opened it because of the words "Indian Football Legend" which are patently unencyclopedic. The title, if it ever gets to article space, will be Mohammed Habib (footballer). Why delete? Have you actually read the deletion log entry? In fact the copyvio aspect is irrelevant because the text was just as sycophantic as the title. Look at existing articles about footballers (I believe we may have a few) and then write a proper article in your own words. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 12:13, 8 November 2013 (UTC)
Not ridiculous
My speedy deletion nomination on User talk:Chiber was not ridiculous. It was for this content that was deleted by Gogo Dodo between when I loaded the page and when I filled the CSD. Please remember WP:CIVIL. EvergreenFir (talk) 04:11, 8 November 2013 (UTC)
- I would say that G8, page dependent …, is never applied to primary user talk pages (ie. not user talk subpages). I would have accepted G11, spam, if I had seen it before the account was blocked. But Gogo Dodo had edited the page twelve hours before you did the edit you mention above. Once Gogo Dodo had edited it, the page became undeleteable. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 12:13, 8 November 2013 (UTC)

Technology business management review
Good afternoon, RHaworth, back in August you deleted technology business management. I have since rewritten the article and posted it to my sandbox here: User:Shswanson/sandbox.
