wikify!

Slovenly is a word I find myself using quite a bit at the moment. Slovenly is what I think of anybody who leaves a message here about an article and fails to provide a wikilink to the article. How do you expect me to read the article if you don't link to it? Even if the article has been deleted, you should still link to it.
I reserve the right to ignore any message which does not provide links where appropriate, has no heading, is in the wrong place on this page or has not been signed with ~~~~.
And if that sounds like a grumpy old man, it's because I am ...

What are you saying? I suppose I wasted my time linking all the phrases in the text to other wiki articles for readers references. How is original research presented by wiki? An example would be helpful, thanks Fiscal Justice (talk) 07:14, 19 September 2013 (UTC)

  • Yes, I am sorry to say that you have wasted your time. Original research only appears in Wikipedia when the results of the research are accepted, duplicated and, above all, given practical application and become notable. For example, I note that VAT was first proposed in 1918 by Wilhelm von Siemens but his proposal probably did not make it to encyclopaedias because it was original research. If you insist on trying to force your paper into Wikipedia, your next actions would be: 1) make sure that each appearance of your paper on the web carries a clear declaration that the text is released under a CC-by-sa-3.0 license and 2) raise the matter at deletion review. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 09:14, 19 September 2013 (UTC)

Mohammad Hanif Ibrahim

Dear I have created page with name Mohammad Hanif Ibrahim. As i created some wiki editor put speedy deletion note there. I had also put a note on that talk page to give me time to enter citation and page link. but you deleted that page and i found the deletion log entry. Subject person has wrote many books, booklets and column. I will put proper citation, references and link pages. Please let me create that page again. — Preceding unsigned comment added by امین اکبر (talkcontribs) 18:21, 19 September 2013 (UTC)

Bwile

Dear R Hawarth, As you bear no resemblance to my professional psychiatric colleague from Scotland, Alan Haworth MD, I will avoid the rant. The deleted article on the Bwile is accurately the same on my blogspot Chiengecom. The decision to post it in my creation Sandbox came after our Cultural and research Committee of the Bwile Royal Establishment discovered that there is hardly a full page on our Bwile Tribe on Wikipedia. We had posted the "so-called" Zambia border dispute referred to as the Lunchinda enclave. It has enriched our collective understanding of this issue and the district of Chiengi in particular. Our desire was to use my blog where we first test run issues, and move it to a wider audience so that it becomes public property and be subject to serious criticism if gaps on data or misrepresentation are evident. If it requires me to remove it from my blog in order to be on the Wikipedia, please advise. You may notice that the IP address is the same.We have worked hard to reach that far in the face of majority ethnic narratives of small groups like ours. We dread extinction! There may be out there many Arab and Portuguese documents that can help us enrich our historical narrative.Spare your "panga" hungman, you mean well. Please advize if you can spare time. • I call your submission an insult to Wikipedia: you do not seem to have actually looked at any Wikipedia articles; you simply copy&paste your blog complete with shouting on to a ponderous title and making absolutely no attempt to turn it into a Wikipedia article. It thoroughly deserved to be deleted. If you wish to contribute, firstly since some of us are allergic to shouting even in user names, create a new account, say Kaka Msimango (talk · contribs) then start to expand the Bwile people article. Take care to write in encyclopedic style and, above all, provide proper references for all information that you add. If you are going to quote from your blog, then add a CC-by-sa-3.0 licence to your blog page. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 13:14, 20 September 2013 (UTC)

Cowboys Stadium

Hello. I reverted your recent page move of Cowboys Stadium to AT&T Stadium. My understanding is that the policy is that someone can revert an undiscussed page move if they object to the change. The longstanding article name has been Cowboys Stadium. There was an undiscussed page move on 25 July, and someone who objected to the change reverted that move on 16 September. Once an undiscussed move is reverted, the proper procedure for someone who prefers a different name is to register a formal move request and have the matter discussed on the Talk page. That happened on 17 September. That discussion has not yet been closed. Further moves should wait (i.e. the article should stay at the reverted prior stable name of Cowboys Stadium) until the discussion of the move request is officially closed. So, in my opinion, you should not have moved that article until the move request discussion had closed. —BarrelProof (talk) 00:42, 21 September 2013 (UTC)

Hello, It seems you deleted my article a few weeks back. I have re written the article and once again posted it. Thank you... MichaelBBC (talk) 12:11, 23 September 2013 (UTC)

I've nominated the article for speedy deletion. It appears to promote a concept whose notability has not been established. I've also asked the article's creator whether WP:COI is an issue. Perhaps this will eventually entail a WP:AfD process, with the possibility of deletion and salting. JNW (talk) 12:23, 23 September 2013 (UTC)

Jordan Moore

I asked about a month ago if you could re-open the page for Jordan Moore and you told me to create the article via AfC. I have now done that and it has been accepted but has had to be created at Jordan Moore (Scottish footballer). Could you please move it to Jordan Moore now. Cowboys Stadium/AT&T Stadium

Not sure if you have been following the Cowboys Stadium/AT&T Stadium movements. After your move, it was moved back by an editor claiming it needed discussed first (which I now see in an above message), then moved to AT&T Stadium by an admin today, then moved by the same initial editor back to Cowboys Stadium today. Each time, an anonymous editor has almost immediately followed the move by editing the AT&T Stadium redirect page to create an edit history so that it needs admin action to be cleared. The "discussion" has been short on actual Wikipedia policies and guidelines and heavy on opinion of the name itself and corporate naming rights. Any help/input you can offer would be much appreciated. Thanks! --JonRidinger (talk) 02:06, 24 September 2013 (UTC)

Omega Upsilon

RHaworth, I was performing research on a former sorority at Mount Olive College called Omega Upsilon. There was once an article about this subject on Wikipedia was deleted in July 2012 after being flagged for speedy deletion using code A7. This subject passes the notability test because it was the only sorority ever to have operated at the college. Can you please revert the deletion so that I can improve the article and provide proper sources? Thank you, Cc09091986 (talk) 14:01, 24 September 2013 (UTC)

  • "Only sorority ever to have operated at the college" is not evidence of notability, it is not even an assertion thereof. I have emailed you the latest text but I very much doubt if an article will succeed. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 13:44, 25 September 2013 (UTC)

RHaworth, thank you for your help in restoring the article. I'll keep it in my sandbox until it is has proper references. I was unaware of some of the information contained in the article and appreciate you recovering it. Much appreciative, and kind regards, Cc09091986 (talk) 13:35, 25 September 2013 (UTC).

The Church and Internet

Hey, I saw that you previously deleted this article. I thought I'd drop in to explain that it's a student project. I've moved a copy to the instructor's userspace and pretty much all but begged him to go through the school WP, as well as explained why editing w/o showing RS (and the difference between a RS and a PS) could end up in deletion even if we kept the article. In any case, I just wanted to drop you a note so you can keep an eye on that as well. I feel sort of bad since it's a student WP project, but I get kind of frustrated when stuff like this happens and all that we have are primary sources at best, meaning that the page will inevitably end up deleted anyway. Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 17:04, 24 September 2013 (UTC)

I had someone complain about the articles that the instructor and/or his students have been creating in the mainspace. I've moved them all to his userspace, but I think that we need someone from the college WP or at least someone other than me try to appeal to him about the articles. The problem is that they're unsourced and not very neutral in tone. I'm starting to get a little irritated with him since I've tried very hard to explain guidelines to him and he's been pretty much ignoring them. I've tried to explain that being a student project doesn't mean that your articles will be left alone- another of their articles, The Rapid Development, is currently up for deletion right now as a result. Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 10:20, 27 September 2013 (UTC)

My basic issue is that the articles aren't reading like neutral, encyclopedic articles in general and the sourcing is pretty much non-existent. Even if the article for Rapid Development makes it through AfD, there will still be ongoing issues with how it's written that will likely only get worse the longer the semester goes on. I don't see where he's really trying to teach the students about editing Wikipedia properly or where he's actually making an effort to learn these guidelines himself. I don't want to scare him off, but I do want to stress to him that ignoring the basic guidelines can lead to articles reading poorly and/or getting deleted. Phata Poster Nikhla Hero

File:Phata Poster Nikhla Hero Theatrical Poster (2013).jpg. May I know the reason for the delete? I think instead of deleting the orphaned non-free revisions, you deleted the image itself. If thats not the case then I'd like to know what was it, since the image had a fair use and license tag, was used in an article. Sohambanerjee1998 13:50, 26 September 2013 (UTC)

(stalking) The correct place to go for this is Requests for page protection. In this case, protection is likely to be denied, because you are simply trying to remove a notice that your article is being considered for speedy deletion as blatant advertising. Furthermore, if you continue to remove this deletion notice, you may be blocked from Wikipedia to prevent edit warring. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 16:22, 29 September 2013 (UTC)

Lots of PR and management pages today

Hi RHaworth, can you have a look at Special:Contributions/Rima_Kudukar also and see if any CSD criteria applies to any of these. Three or more different users have been creating articles related to media, PR etc at high speed today. Few of those you have already deleted. So far I have identified these users, Deesha.chheda (talk · contribs) sock of Disha.c (talk · contribs), Rima_Kudukar (talk · contribs) and Pranjali Galgali (talk · contribs). Can a SPI report be filed for them ? They all are working on similar topics and with a very similar style. Although it may be also possible that these are some university students, working on some assignment. --Vigyanitalkਯੋਗਦਾਨ 11:31, 30 September 2013 (UTC)

  • Almost certainly a student project rather than socks. Rima Kudukar has received appropriate speedy treatment. I suggest you tell all of them to announce themselves at WP:SUP and tag each article in mainspace on its merits. Add user space drafts to your watchlist and ask me to delete them as stale drafts in six months time. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 11:48, 30 September 2013 (UTC)
  • WIth the speed of creation they appear likely to be copyvios, but I can't see where from. They smell like a student body grabbing copyright information to gain class credit. Each supposed student seems to create several within a very few moments of each other. Fiddle Faddle 11:52, 30 September 2013 (UTC)

Hillsong Young and Free

Hello, I went to find information on the new album by Hillsong Young and Free and have found that the page was deleted for non-notability. I did not create this page, however I just thought you might want to know that stating that this band is non-notable is not accurate at all. While it is a new group that is debuting today from Hillsong Church, it must be noted that Hillsong Church is probably one of the most influential churches on planet Earth. Just go to their main Wikipedia page to verify. Yes, the band may be new, but to say it is not notable is nonsense.

So I am just saying you should probably just un-delete it. If not, I'm sure it will be recreated over and over literally by thousands of users - mostly because it truly should exist. Thanks Chris — Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.193.165.56 (talk) 19:45, 30 September 2013 (UTC)

YYCIX Internet Exchange Community Ltd

Hi, My page was deleted for having no significant information available.

First, I fail to see how it is any less significant than the Seattle Internet Exchange wiki page.

Second, there are several other reasons it significant that I could have documented and cited and will do so:

  1. It is the first internet exchange site in all of Alberta, Canada.
  2. It is the only exchange which has a partnership with the City of Calgary and their fiber network (which can carry many buildings in Calgary to the exchange)
  3. It is rapidly growing, already from 3Mbps to 40Mbps avg with 9 members now.

In other words, it is not merely an organization that is being documented, rather, it is an item of significant public interest, much like the Seattle Internet Exchange. — Foamyslippers (talk) 04:50, 2 October 2013 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) YYCIX Internet Exchange Community Ltd. - Sam Sailor Sing 08:10, 2 October 2013 (UTC)
  • I did hesitate momentarily over the deletion. Your list above and the article omit what is to me the most important reason for the exchange's existence: it helps prevent within-Canada traffic having to go via the USA. You are going to find it difficult to get an article accepted: IXPs are like sewage works or electricity sub-stations - they are vital to our lives but we never notice their existence. Restored to User:Foamyslippers/sandbox. Expand it, add better references and resubmit via AfC. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 11:04, 2 October 2013 (UTC)LL

Is there any good reason to delete items like "Location" and "Officers" from this entry and not other entries, like the Seattle Internet Exchange where this was modeled from? Foamyslippers (talk) 15:38, 3 October 2013 (UTC)

Does this need to go through AFC? The backlog is huge. The topic of NSA spying is timely, and if the article is improved, would you move it back in place? Foamyslippers (talk) 16:17, 3 October 2013 (UTC)

  • Location - Wikipedia is not a directory. Officers - unless any of the people have Wikipedia articles this info. is just unencyclopedic flack. But they are not in the Seattle article. Why the hurry? Best to put it through AfC. For me to move it straight back would imply my endorsement of the subject as notable. What is stopping you moving it? — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 20:37, 3 October 2013 (UTC)
  • I don't want it to just get deleted again. Anyways the basic point here is to increase the recognition of this IX. It lets people in the community know what is available, and why. Foamyslippers (talk) 21:18, 3 October 2013 (UTC)

Hi. It looks like you deleted this article on Oct. 3. I haven't seen the (now deleted) article, but I would argue that the Bedtime Math Foundation is clearly notable. For example, here is an article about it in USA Today. The site at hundredzeroes is merely advance publicity for the book, and the content is the same as on Amazon Kindle and Barnes and Noble nook, which is merely the summary of the advance free chapters of the book. So there is no intended (or actual) copyright infringement. It all belongs to us, and we are happy for it to be contained in Wikipedia. I hope this helps. All best wishes, Berengaria (talk) 19:58, 6 October 2013 (UTC)

User talk space delete

Thanks for getting to that, I don't want to waste space so where I can I try to mark CSD, especially when I move a page to mainspace. I'm pretty familiar with the policies and such and hopefully will submit for admin when my edits are higher. Would you mind looking through some of my contributions and letting me know if there's anything I can improve upon? I'm a good mediator and can look at things fairly. I also enjoy reading policies and learning anywhere I can. You'll see I mostly patrol new pages, recent changes, and reviewing. If not I certainly understand the admins have plenty to do besides this. Thanks! cliffsteinman -- Discuss 22:20, 6 October 2013 (UTC)

  • You are probably good admin material: you do not seem to have offended any serious editors; you argue calmly; etc. But please read this advice and especially "candidates with fewer than 2,000 edits … often see their RfAs closed … shortly after adding them". Feel free to come back when you have a longer contributions history. Please: go to your preferences, tick "prompt me when entering a blank edit summary" and obey the warning whenever you see it even on user talk pages. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 13:23, 7 October 2013 (UTC)

Lake Pharma

Dear RHaworth: Re Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/LakePharma: this G13 candidate on the surface seems to be one to be rescued, but two experts from Wikiproject Medicine have agreed that it should go. The G13 nomination doesn't allow for a comment, so can you just delete it? Thanks. —Anne Delong (talk) 04:10, 7 October 2013 (UTC)

How do I get my deleted article?

So now I have a &*&(&(*& clue. How can I get my deleted article, Intergeneration Month so I can edit it and follow the format of National Pig Day and Aura's House and Black History Month? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kgobos (talkcontribs) 22:32, 7 October 2013 (UTC)

  • Standard, parrot-fashion advice: kindly have the decency to wait until someone with no COI thinks your month is notable and writes about it here. If you really want to force an article in, I suggest you find a sponsor. <end-parrot> Text emailed. You claim to have modelled your article on Black History Month but the most depressing thing about yours was the blatant lack of modelling: no attempt to use wiki markup; total absence of wikilinks; ridiculous long-winded references; no use of the <ref> format for refs; no independent references; naked URLs. In short, no real attempt to write a Wikipedia article. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 23:01, 7 October 2013 (UTC)

Lionel Fanthorpe

Hi, the image of Lionel Fanthorpe has just been deleted. I have an email giving permission for its use. What do I do about this so I can reload the image? Thanks. Jack1956 (talk) 20:33, 8 October 2013 (UTC)

  • Agreed. I shall look more closely in future at speedy nominations using those ridiculous massive Google links instead of a link to a single explicit occurrence of the alleged copyvio. But you should still submit the permission email via OTRS and I would be happier if you uploaded the original of the image with the EXIF metadata still in place (and then re-instated the current version). — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 21:59, 8 October 2013 (UTC)

New Zealand national rugby league team

Hello there. You recently deleted File:New Zealand national rugby league team logo.svg on the grounds that it was redundant to File:New Zealand Rugby League logo.svg. This was despite me pointing out that the nomination was unwarranted on the deleted file's talk page. Please undelete it. Malpass93! (what I've been up to/drop me a ___) 20:51, 8 October 2013 (UTC)

Can you please take a look at Wikipedia:ANI#Obvious_sock.2C_needs_obvious_Block and block the newest sock? Im in the process of reverting their edits. Werieth (talk) 10:49, 9 October 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for feedback

Thanks, just saw your comments. Sorry, I obviously wasn't conversant with how to post a photo, will go back and do it correctly. Your points are all very helpful. Biographer1 (talk) 12:35, 9 October 2013 (UTC)

A deleted article

Hello, you recently deleted Kunchacko Boban (actor) as a duplicate of an existing article (Kunchacko Boban). The contents and editing history of the deleted version may be needed for a sockpuppet investigation. Could you restore it temporarily as a sandbox for me or as a redirect to the real article so that I can see the content and history? Thanks! -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 14:41, 9 October 2013 (UTC)

Scout Association of Japan

Please decline the speedies for the Scouting ranks (Scout Association of Japan) images File:Venture ranks (Scout Association of Japan).png and File:Scouting ranks (Scout Association of Japan).png. I requested the images be combined to comply with NFCC, the licensing should have just been fixed rather than tagged for speedy (not you, just I know you are an admin that looks at the speedies), I have fixed it to match the earlier correct image licenses, please have a look and decline. Thanks and good night.--Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 17:35, 9 October 2013 (UTC)

Combining non-free files does not reduce the problem. Werieth (talk) 17:44, 9 October 2013 (UTC)

You weren't the one who speedy-tagged them, why are you butting in here?--Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 18:27, 9 October 2013 (UTC)

  • Kintetsbuffalo, you were not the original uploader so you are probably allowed to remove the speedy tags yourself. But do not be so rude to Werieth - this is Wikipedia - anybody is allowed to contribute to any article or whatever. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 22:21, 9 October 2013 (UTC)

Walt Winston article should be restored!

The reason is, Mr. Winston has gained international fame as a result of his appearance on America's Got Talent! Which was also aired in the UK, Japan, and two other countries as well as the U.S. He is listed in the america's got talent wiki as an act that appeared in multiple seasons (Seasons 6 & 7) using compositions he had written and today he has fans from around the world.

http://agt.wikia.com/wiki/Walt_Winston is the link and here in the states, the article is of significance. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.190.136.217 (talk) 06:26, 10 October 2013 (UTC)

The article was speedy deleted for not asserting any significance. You're probably better off just writing the article again from scratch. Make sure you add references to reliable sources such as major national news or magazine pieces that have Winston directly as the subject material - not just a single sentence. Wikia hosted pages are generally unacceptable as there is no editorial control over the content. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 08:55, 10 October 2013 (UTC)

Give me back the deleted article

You deleted a Tech Trailblazers Awards *DRAFT* article that I was working on in my sandbox. Please give it back. The article was not advertising, and it was not even published yet. I need to work on it. Please give it back.

Thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by Williaso (talkcontribs) 12:54, 10 October 2013 (UTC)

  • I am unimpressed by the declaration of COI on User:Williaso. It still smells strongly of advertising. But I have emailed you the text. If you do attempt to re-create it, please note that the only judges, sponsors and winners which should be listed are ones who have Wikipedia articles. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 20:51, 10 October 2013 (UTC)

Indonesian hoaxes

Dear RHaworth, could you please kindly also delete Batas Waktu 60 Detik? This is another hoax made by the same creator of Minute to Win It Indonesia, as both are nonexistent in any TV channel in Indonesia. The vandal has been blocked indefinitely in the Indonesian Wikipedia for the same indictment. Thank you very much in advance :) Mimihitam (talk) 23:31, 10 October 2013 (UTC)

I have endorsed your proposed deletion; just as a heads-up, a hoax can be speedily deleted under criterion WP:G3b.--Launchballer 08:27, 11 October 2013 (UTC)

Reade this

Hi! I'd like to recreate a page that was deleted for copyright violation. Hi! Today I submitted an article about Colonel George Reade, but it was deleted due to copyright violation. Here is the information about what was there, although it appears to have already been deleted so I don't know how to provide a better link to it: 18:48, 10 October 2013 RHaworth (talk | contribs) deleted page User:Thom W Blair III/sandbox (G12: Unambiguous copyright infringement of http://www.jamestowne-wash-nova.org/GeorgeReade.htm)

Or, maybe this is the way to provide the link? https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User:Thom_W_Blair_III/sandbox&action=edit&redlink=1

I would like to recreate a viable article about Reade, so I thought I would copy down verbatim sections from a book that was copyrighted in 1932, but the current copyright information says it is "Public Domain - Google Digitized" so it seems like it would not be a copyright violation -- is this accurate? Here is a link to the PDF version of the text and it's copyright info: http://hdl.handle.net/2027/mdp.39015050616443

To my knowledge there is no text version of this book, only picture-scans of the pages of the book, so I felt it would be a good contribution to world knowledge-base to provide searchable text of the sections related to Reade.

I will fully cite the text and also include a permanent link to the PDF of the text.

Is this the appropriate way to remake the article?

Or do I have to paraphrase the text to avoid copyright infringement? I hesitate to do too much paraphrasing or rewriting because the information provided in the text is very succinct, almost facts only, so it seems I'd have to add lots of (possibly inappropriate) personal comments/fluff to somehow make it my own rendition.

Please forgive my ignorance -- this is my first time making a Wikipedia article, but I'd like to contribute more and do so properly, so thanks for your time!

Sincerely, Thom Blair III

Why was this page deleted? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ana Khundadze (talkcontribs) 07:53, 11 October 2013 (UTC)

Because it was unambiguous advertising or promotion and had a ridiculous title.--Launchballer 08:24, 11 October 2013 (UTC)
