Mandatory paid editing disclosure

Hello RightCowLeftCoast. The nature of your edits gives the impression you have an undisclosed financial stake in promoting a topic, and that you have not complied with Wikipedia's mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements. Paid advocacy is a category of conflict of interest (COI) editing that involves being compensated by a person, group, company or organization to use Wikipedia to promote their interests. Undisclosed paid advocacy is prohibited by our policies on neutral point of view and what Wikipedia is not, and is an especially egregious type of COI; the Wikimedia Foundation regards it as a "black hat" practice akin to Black hat SEO.

Paid advocates are very strongly discouraged from direct article editing, and should instead propose changes on the talk page of the article in question if an article exists, and if it does not, from attempting to write an article at all. At best, any proposed article creation should be submitted through the articles for creation process, rather than directly.

Regardless, if you are receiving or expect to receive compensation for your edits, broadly construed, you are required by the Wikimedia Terms of Use to disclose your employer, client and affiliation. You can post such a mandatory disclosure to your user page at User:RightCowLeftCoast. The template {{Paid}} can be used for this purpose – e.g. in the form: {{paid|user=RightCowLeftCoast|employer=InsertName|client=InsertName}}. If I am mistaken – you are not being directly or indirectly compensated for your edits – please state that in response to this message. Otherwise, please provide the required disclosure. In either case, please do not edit further until you answer this message. Jytdog (talk) 22:33, 12 November 2018 (UTC)

@Airplaneman and Jytdog: would that not be WP:OUTING my real life identity?
I have not been paid by my employers to make edits, ever.
My employers are aware that I edit Wikipedia, but have not asked me to edit on their behalf.
As stated on COI Noticeboard, I have edited Wikipedia while at work, therefore the IP which I am editing from may be used by multiple individuals. This explains the Checkuser result found and stated at the COI Noticeboard.
I have been editing as an IP since 2006, and using solely this username since 2009.
If I were to be paid by NuVasive to make edits on their behalf, it would be opposite to their interest for me to make the edits I did in May 2017 to the article about the companies former CEO, and current member of its Board of Directors. Thus it should be less likely given that edit, that I am a paid advocate for its interest. So, I find this attack upon me and my character to be wholly unwarranted.--RightCowLeftCoast (Moo) 00:29, 13 November 2018 (UTC)
OUTING is not a get out of jail free card from PAID. Nope. I will respond to the rest at COIN. Jytdog (talk) 02:01, 13 November 2018 (UTC)
"I have not been paid..." is not the full answer to COI. This is a common misconception held by some editors. COI stems from a connection to a topic that may undermine your ability to write about it impartially (WP:ACTUALCOI), or that causes such an impression in another person (WP:APPARENTCOI). So you really haven't answered the question, do you have any such connection? You don't have to OUT yourself to answer this.
Oh and by the way, the fact that you have said (or strongly implied) that you work where there are people with an actual COI makes me think it is rather more likely that you do have an actual COI yourself. It's obvious that for two editors here, you have an apparent COI but you don't see it yourself for whatever reason.
One more by the way, you have listed your employer in your userboxes, so crying that another editor is attempting to OUT you is rather droll. ☆ Bri (talk) 04:30, 13 November 2018 (UTC)
Thanks for this awful experience. I respectfully ask that Jytdog (talk · contribs) and Bri (talk · contribs) stop making me feel harassed on my own talk page. I sincerely hope a civil conversation about my lack of paid advocacy can be made clear at COIN.--RightCowLeftCoast (Moo) 06:44, 13 November 2018 (UTC)
Unless I am missing something, I don't see any mention of RCLC's employer in their userbox, especially nothing about NuVasive. RLCL has clearly stated they are not paid to edit and they don't work for NuVasive. You would not expect that to be the case from his edits. This amounts to an unreasonable degree of harassment, these cases have been dealt with uncivilly and inappropriately, and I would suggest RLCL file an ANI to report this harassment for the sake of all editors on Wikipedia. I would do it on his behalf, but I don't believe you are allowed to do so for somebody else. 2604:2000:E0CF:5100:41FC:D066:875B:F0A7 (talk) 04:14, 14 November 2018 (UTC)

The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

Hi. Shouldn't the title say "Los Angeles" instead of San Diego? George Ho (talk) 03:09, 14 December 2018 (UTC)

@George Ho: It can, as it is a joint meetup between two user groups. Yet it also serves as the monthly meetup for the San Diego user group, even though its out of the county. Just like how the May event occurred in Riverside County, California.--RightCowLeftCoast (Moo) 03:19, 14 December 2018 (UTC)

Merry Christmas!

Methinks I see an heavenly Host
Of angels on the wing;
Methinks I hear their cheerful notes,
So merrily they sing.

Let all your fears be banished hence,
Glad tidings I proclaim;
For there's a Savior born today
And Jesus is his name.

Lay down your crooks and quit your flocks,
To Bethlehem repair;
And let your wandering steps be squared
By yonder shining star.

Seek not in courts or palaces;
Nor royal curtains draw;
But search the stable,
See your God extended on the straw.

Then learn from hence, ye rural swains,
The meekness of your God,
Who left the boundless realms of joy,
To ransom you with blood.

The master of the inn refused
A more commodious place;
Ungenerous soul of savage mold
And destitute of grace.

- from William Billings, "Shiloh"

DYK for Dawn Mabalon

On 26 December 2018, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Dawn Mabalon, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that professor Dawn Mabalon's (pictured) proofs of discrimination against Filipino Americans led to the neighborhood of Little Manila being listed as one of America's Most Endangered Places? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Dawn Mabalon. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Dawn Mabalon), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Nomination of Bakbakan International for deletion

Over two months ago, on 24 February 2019, you tagged “Bakbakan International” as not meeting the notability requirements. Since then, no efforts have been made to prove the notability of the topic, so I have nominated the article for deletion, and I thought I would let you know.

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Bakbakan International until a consensus is reached, and anyone, including you, is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion notice from the top of the article. Bsoyka 08:14, 25 April 2019 (UTC)

Dear RightCowLeftCoast .. ideas to span 100pct width on cellphone?

Howdy! How have you been? I think we have a social SD Wikipedians / Wikiians get together event coming up soon in May. ** Hey, I have been editing my User Page and have 3 columns of userboxes. Any idea how to either (1) use options to WikiTable or (2) to use html span width=100pct, so it would look better on cellphones? Google searches are failing me. Thanks in advance if you have the time my Friend. Peter. Vid2vid (talk) 21:28, 2 May 2019 (UTC)

@Vid2vid: The next meetup is a more for taking photos to upload onto Wikimedia commons. It will be Sunday 19 May at the Palomar Observatory.
As for getting to get the userboxes to better fit a cell phone, some people use a collapsible single column tables to make it more cell phone accessible.--RightCowLeftCoast (Moo) 23:40, 2 May 2019 (UTC)

I ask that you show your support for the issues that need to be address by voting for me as one of your preferences.

My candidacy information page is Affiliate-selected Board seats/2019/Nominations/Gerald Shields on Meta or can be found at Gerald Shields candidate. As of the 7 May 2019 list of questions, I am the only candidate to have responded to all of the “Questions for all candidates - Questions for this individual candidate that do not apply to other candidates”. My answers give more details on why the San Diego User Group should vote for me.

Thank you for your time, discussion, and consideration of my candidacy. I appreciate it.

My best regards,

Gerald Shields

DYK for Demographics of Filipino Americans

On 16 May 2019, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Demographics of Filipino Americans, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that the earliest permanent Filipino American residents settled in Louisiana's bayou country? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Demographics of Filipino Americans. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Demographics of Filipino Americans), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Your GA nomination of 149th Armor Regiment

The article 149th Armor Regiment you nominated as a good article has passed  ; see Talk:149th Armor Regiment for comments about the article. Well done! If the article has not already been on the main page as an "In the news" or "Did you know" item, you can nominate it to appear in Did you know. ACR

I'm happy to see that you've nominated the 149th article for A-class review. The biggest problem that I see is that I don't think that the prose is really ready to pass the much-higher A-class standard. I'd strongly recommend that you ask user:John for a copyedit. He's helped me out quite a bit on some of my ACRs and FACs and helped me stomp on some of my bad writing habits.--Sturmvogel 66 (talk) 14:49, 17 May 2019 (UTC)

@John: is it possible that you can look over 149th Armor Regiment, which is going for A-class review? If there is prose improvement that you, or someone at WP:GOCE, can help me with, I would appreciate it.--RightCowLeftCoast (Moo) 23:20, 17 May 2019 (UTC)

Transparency, Privacy, Wiki Talk Pages?

Hey hey Cow :) Hey how's it going? This chat topic that I'm going to broach probably belongs on a Wikipedia official page about (what are) Talk pages, **on the very Talk section** of that said page... That being said, I know Wikipedia is all about complete transparency, and history of edits, and contributions for all of its users, registered users, but isn't it a little strange that somebody can watch (or set to watch) anyone else's User Talk page? I forgot that I had yours set to Watch for future replies to my own conversations, and I'm continually seeing what people write on your page over time. So... along those lines, is there a setting or feature where you can see a list of who's watching which pages, Wikipedia-wide? Or at least for ones own Talk page, could a user see a list of Wiki users who are watching it? I think that would be an interesting feature, suggestion, software enhancement! - What are your thoughts? Vid2vid (talk) 00:05, 19 May 2019 (UTC)

@Vid2vid: There is a way. But it's been a while since I looked that up. It's one of the tool links on the page's history tab, I am unsure at the moment which one though.--RightCowLeftCoast (Moo) 04:02, 19 May 2019 (UTC)
@RightCowLeftCoast: Good morning-happy Sunday. 1. Thanks for 'Talk/Watch hiding' response, I'll research. 2. We should privately exchange cell phone numbers for texting, now that we're friends... 3. I wonder if this rain today cancels the Palomar Observatory tour? Do you know? ..also is it just a tour, walk, hike... Or is this a Wiki editing event similar to the one where I met you at the library? I hope you see this soon as it's 10:00 a.m., and the event is today Sunday May 19 2019 at 12:30 p.m. Take care! Vid2vid (talk) 16:58, 19 May 2019 (UTC)

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited 149th Armored Regiment, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page East of Eden (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

DYK for 149th Armored Regiment

On 20 June 2019, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article 149th Armored Regiment, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, 149th Armored Regiment), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000.
