You have not given a source for this image, not have you stated what its copyright status is. Under Wikipedia policy images without copyright information can be deleted after 7 days. Image Tagging Image:VJM.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:VJM.jpg. I notice it currently doesn't have an image copyright tag, so its copyright status is therefore unclear. Please add a tag to let us know its copyright status. (If you created/took the picture then you can use {{gfdl}} to release it under the GFDL. If you can claim fair use use {{fairuse}}.) See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use. If you have uploaded other images, please check that you have tagged them, too. Note that any unsourced and untagged imaged will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thanks so much. --Michael 08:58, 1 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

NOTICE TO ALL IN REGARDS TO IMAGES: LACK OF COPYRIGHTING INFO OR SOURCING

edit

Everyone, Please note that I am in the process of posting the proper copyright info and the sources of where I got said photos on each image in question. Upon my discovery of the Wikipedia, I-- in my overzealousness-- blindly began posting dozens of images and I completely ignored the verbiage asking for the images' info. Now, thanks to your requests, I am going back and posting the correct copyright information and listing my sources. If I have missed any, please post them here, and it will be remedied. Thanks,

I did the same in the past... It takes time to learn and understand, but now I know and I understand. Do continue to contribute! Thanks Scott 14:21, 3 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

Comments in Edit History pages

edit

<from User_talk:Lochaber>

Hi Lochaber,
Can you tell me how I can put comments by my edits on the "history" pages (as I've seen you do?)
Please post the answer on my talk page, if you would be so kind.
Thanks!

No problem,

At the bottom of the editing box you will see box called "Edit summary", above the buttons for Save page / Show Preview &c., you just fill in what you have done in there. If you click on Edit summary you'll find more info, Edit summary legend is also useful. Hope that helps! -- Lochaber 14:58, 5 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for uploading Image:Gbr.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}.

Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator.

Improper tagging of Image:Sharbat Gula After 17.jpg

edit

That image is certainly not a "publicity photo", and it does not fit the description in the copyright tag that you supplied. I've noted as much on the image's talk page. If a valid case for use of this copyrighted image cannot be made, it must be deleted. The image tag clearly states:

This tag should only be used for images of a person, product, or event that is known to have come from a press kit or similar source, for the purpose of reuse by the media.

It came from the National Geographic Magazine, if my memory serves, not a press kit, nor for the purpose of reuse. --Kbh3rdtalk 04:34, 16 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for uploading Image:Rip2.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. I removed your edit to Jackson Hole, Wyoming - Harrison Ford is already mentioned in Jackson, Wyoming, and thats a better location for that sort of trivia. - CosmicPenguin (Talk) 00:55, 4 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Well, his page is suffering from the usual Jackson/Jackson Hole confusion. But if you look at the Jackson Hole, Wyoming page - it is more geographical and geological in nature as befits a page about a valley, especially a generally unpopulated one. Jackson, Wyoming is more civic in nature, as befits a urban area. I think that living people should be listed as living within a city or urban area, not a natural feature - not even San Fernando Valley lists any notable residents, and surely they have some. :) - CosmicPenguin (Talk) 03:16, 5 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Fair use rationale for Image:General Lee jump.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:General Lee jump.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:DukesReunion.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. CCruise (talk) 23:05, 20 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Replaceable fair use Image:James Best.jpg

edit

Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:James Best.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, fair use media which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if not used in an article), per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. High on a tree (talk) 10:18, 7 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Typo redirect Mr. Horse-Collar

edit

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Mr. Horse-Collar, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Mr. Horse-Collar is a redirect page resulting from an implausible typo (CSD R3).

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Mr. Horse-Collar, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. Disputed fair use rationale for Image:One Day at a Time.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:One Day at a Time.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. Orphaned non-free media (Image:Hazzard Cast.JPG)

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Hazzard Cast.JPG. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Thank you for uploading Image:Truffle_Shuffle.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. Oxford Wikimania 2010 and Wikimedia UK v2.0 Notice

edit

Hi,

As a regularly contributing UK Wikipedian, we were wondering if you wanted to contribute to the Oxford bid to host the 2010 Wikimania conference. Please see here for details of how to get involved, we need all the help we can get if we are to put in a compelling bid.

We are also in the process of forming a new UK Wikimedia chapter to replace the soon to be folded old one. If you are interested in helping shape our plans, showing your support or becoming a future member or board member, please head over to the Wikimedia UK v2.0 page and let us know. We plan on holding an election in the next month to find the initial board, who will oversee the process of founding the company and accepting membership applications. They will then call an AGM to formally elect a new board who after obtaining charitable status will start the fund raising, promotion and active support for the UK Wikimedian community for which the chapter is being founded.

You may also wish to attend the next London meet-up at which both of these issues will be discussed. If you can't attend this meetup, you may want to watch Wikipedia:Meetup, for updates on future meets.

We look forward to hearing from you soon, and we send our apologies for this automated intrusion onto your talk page!

Thanks for uploading Image:Pirate Movie.jpg. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

License tagging for File:Captain Chaos.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading File:Captain Chaos.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information.

To add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia. For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. File permission problem with File:Kristin Sutton - Premiere.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading File:Kristin Sutton - Premiere.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. An article you recently created, Kristin Sutton, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia).
