Suspicious activity on Zen, Chan,Linji Yixuan, the platform sutra and relayed articles

edit

Hi Michael, I was wondering if you had noticed anything suspicious on the pages related to Soto Zen. Thankyou for your time Foristslow (talk) 11:53, 23 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

I've seen some fairly sweeping IP edits over the last few months, and one or two suggestions of sockpuppet activity. I've not been following those articles closely, though, and if you do suspect a sockpuppet you'd need admin assistance (I'm just an ordinary editor). Hi Michael thank you for your reply, I have just made a edit on Linji Yixuan and Zen I have changed some links that they headed up true nature, the reference does not mention this and the characters do not say this in Chinese only self nature or Buddha nature. I see this as misleading for people and not sure of there motivation as there seems to be a editor that has maybe another account that they have not declared. If you could give some guidance if it gets strange that would be helpful. Thank you once again Foristslow (talk) 21:05, 23 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
I may be able to make some minor edits but I'm afraid I don't have time to get deeply involved in those articles at the moment. Sorry. MichaelMaggs (talk) 10:42, 24 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
Thankyou for getting back to me, it was mainly to see with your experience if there was something going on there that looks suspicious with the other editors. Foristslow (talk) 12:59, 24 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
Hello, Due to your long history with Wikipedia, I am wondering if you can help me with how to approach getting a investigation for a editor that is disruptive and my be a non declared alt account. If you can help or point me in the right direction that would be a great help. Thankyou Foristslow (talk) 07:50, 29 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
Have a look at WP:SOCK. MichaelMaggs (talk) 08:44, 29 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
Hi Michael, now one of the larger editors has said that they know them personally and that they asked them to come on, so they must be helping them to edit, basically endorse their editing and for me to not be so rude. Is this really allowed here. Please advise on this, thank you Foristslow (talk) 21:51, 29 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
Is that called a meatpuppet ? Foristslow (talk) 22:33, 29 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
As I mentioned, you'd be better off seeking advice from an administrator. You could either contact one directly, (click here for a list of recently active admins), or try asking a question on your own talk page like this:

Thanks for the help on Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Books learning the best way to go about adding fair use book covers to articles, and for then taking the time to check my work. GeogSage (⚔Chat?⚔) 15:40, 5 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

And Then There Were None cover image

edit

[1] If the community consensus is that the first edition cover should always be displayed when available, then Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style/Novels#Images needs to be changed to reflect that. If on the other hand it is sometimes preferable to display a later cover if a later edition is better known, And Then There Were None seems like a clear-cut example of that. I was surprised to see that there appears to be somewhat of a consensus to display the original cover, but perhaps people are focusing too much on the nature of the title itself and not on which title is the best known. 183.89.250.246 (talk) 22:23, 16 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

I agree with you that given the history of this article, the issue deserves full discussion on the talk page, with proper consideration given to both views. If you agree, I'll open a new section on that page and we'll see what happens. You shouldn't unilaterally change Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style/Novels#Images to your interpretation of consensus on this specific cover, though, as that's a different and much broader discussion. I'm rather busy tomorrow, so give me a couple of days. MichaelMaggs (talk) 18:16, 19 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
Considering that And Then There Were None has 300 page watchers, whatever happens there should have a bearing on the guideline. Also, MOS:NOVELS did not seem to be well-maintained, so that kind of change seemed reasonable. I wasn't even saying that you should always use the first-edition cover, just that that seems to be the opinion of some users. 183.89.250.246 (talk) 19:26, 19 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

Discussion at Wikipedia Talk:Short description

edit

I have opened a discussion on the talk page for many descriptions to form a consensus on some aspects of short description formatting. Your input would be greatly appreciated. -1ctinus📝🗨 13:53, 19 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

Mondegreen - rollback of description? (Sorry if this seems petty)

edit

I don't understand why you rolled back my description of the Mario 64 section of the mondegreen page. It currently states that the line was replaced in the remaster, which-- while true-- was based on the changes in the Shindou version, which came first. I'm not upset at all, I'm just confused. - RemedyReverie (talk) 12:48, 31 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hi, can you identify the exact edit please? You have not made any edits to the Mondegreen page under the username RemedyReverie. MichaelMaggs (talk) 12:55, 31 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
