Welcome!

edit
Hi, SlyDante, Welcome to Wikipedia!

Hello, and welcome to the ranks of Wikipedians! My name is BorgHunter, one of very many administrators around here, and let me be the first to welcome you here. Before getting too in-depth, you may want to read about the simplified ruleset. If you need help on how to title new articles check out the naming conventions, and for help on formatting the pages visit the manual of style. If you need help look at Wikipedia:Help and the FAQ , plus if you can't find your answer there, check the Village Pump (for Wikipedia related questions) or the Reference Desk (for general questions)! There's still more help at the Tutorial and Policy Library. Plus, don't forget to visit the Community Portal. And if you have any more questions after that, feel free to post them on my user talk page. And don't worry—you may well have a bunch of questions after that avalanche of info I just threw at you. Yeah, Wikipedia has a bit of a culture and etiquette of its own, but you get used to it!

Additional tips

edit

Here's some extra tips to help you get around in the 'pedia!

  • If you want to play around with your new Wiki skills the Sandbox is for you.
  • You can sign your name using four tildes (~~~~). Using the four tildes to sign your sig is policy whenever you make comments on a talk page or vote on something.
  • You may want to add yourself to the new user log.
  • You should also consider (if you have not already) creating a user page for yourself, to tell us a bit about you. Don't worry if it's small at first -- most people tend to grow their user pages over a period of time, much like Wikipedia articles. Don't expect everything to happen all at once!
  • If you ever think a page or image should be deleted, please list it at the articles for deletion page. If you think a page should be moved to a different title, please list it at requested moves.
  • If you're still entirely confused, or would like to get a better grasp of your wikipedia skills, and you have an IRC client (or don't mind getting one), check out the Bootcamp. It's not what it sounds like, but it is fun and can help you with your editing skills.
  • If you're bored and want to find something to do, try the Random page button in the sidebar, or check out the Open Task message in the Community Portal.

Don't hesitate to let me know if you have any problems or questions. Alternatively, you can place "{{helpme}}" on your user talk page (this page), and someone will arrive shortly to answer your questions. Good luck, and happy wiki-ing!

Vandalism to PvP

edit

Thanks for your contribution, but we are trying to write an encyclopedia here, so please keep your edits factual and neutral. Some readers looking for a serious article might not find them amusing. Remember, millions of people read Wikipedia, so we have to take what we do a bit seriously here. If you'd like to experiment with editing, use the Sandbox to get started. I hope you can help us out! And by the way, if you're going to vandalize, it helps if you're at least original. [1] [2] [3]BorgHunter (talk) 03:08, 13 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Actually, I have a good sense of humor. I do read PvP, after all. :-P But an encyclopedia article that is intended as a serious resource is not supposed to be presented in such a fashion. I'm further certain that Scott did not intend for anyone to actually edit the article in that way. I don't mean to be a stick in the mud, but we're supposed to be a serious site dedicated to information. Keep the fun out of the article namespace. It's not the appropriate place for it. Sorry.
Incidentally, I'm sure you would take a dim view of damaging behavior such as the edit you made too if you had to clean up after it. Food fights aren't fun for the janitors. —BorgHunter (talk) 03:19, 13 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

AfD nomination of MuchMusic Countdown number-one videos of 1988

edit

An editor has nominated MuchMusic Countdown number-one videos of 1988, an article on which you have worked or that you created, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not"). Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/MuchMusic Countdown number-one videos of 1988 and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~). You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you. Please note: This is an automatic notification by a bot. I have nothing to do with this article or the deletion nomination, and can't do anything about it. New GHII content

edit

I don't doubt the addition of the new content (I've seen enough fan-wanted wishlists added to know the difference) but I do not see any mention of this new content in the usual news sources (specifically at Major Nelson's blog) -- plug I'm not able to check XBL to verify.

So my question: are these possible a EU-only release (which would make sense given the locale of each band)? I don't know what region you're in but that would be one explanation why I've not seen these mentioned in the US gaming news sites. --MASEM 20:53, 15 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Re List of Video on Trial episodes

Please read WP:TRIVIA. That is just a list of indiscriminate information that is not needed in this article. ViperSnake151  Talk  14:37, 27 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

ArbCom elections are now open!

edit

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
