@Dr. Blofeld: I "think" I got all of the red links in there, but who knows. I did the films first and then skipped through them in the article, but that may have missed a few. @Dr. Blofeld: One of the reasons I listed people/places separately from films. I figured some of your film buddies would help. There are articles on Spanish wiki for many of the films, but usually they are completely unsourced, so I don't know how helpful that is. the [national cinema link] usually gives a fairly good overview. Cinenacional is OK for film stubs. You'll usually find something in google books on some of the films. There's a Dictionary of Argentine films that often picks up hits.♦ Dr. Blofeld 16:22, 11 August 2015 (UTC)

Papers

I was just looking at your article on María Teresa Ferrari and noticed the red links for La Patria degli Italiani in Italy and El Diario Español in Spain. I'm not sure they are Italian and Spanish newspapers (despite what the book says quite clearly; I have to be awkward). If you do a search for "La Patria degli Italiani" you'll see it only seems to have existed as an Italian language newspaper in Buenos Aires (you'll have to read Italian for that; I couldn't see any English sources). The Spanish one seems to be the same; I can't find any evidence of a newspaper ever existing in Spain with that name and the footnote on page 39 of this book points to one existing in Buenos Aires from 1905 to 1946. I wonder if Alvarez and Carbonetti just took Italiano and Español to mean they were based in those countries instead of in those languages. Belle (talk) 16:52, 11 August 2015 (UTC)

@Belle: I have no idea and unfortunately cannot open your link to the book. Something Rosie and I have learned and apparently has to do with IP blocks. Often what she can read in the US I cannot open in Mexico and vice verse. I was unable to find any source other than that brief Who's Who in English and Dr. Blofeld could find nothing on his side of the pond either. Maybe we change it to say something like Italian language paper and Spanish exile paper of Buenos Aires? I know that some things they partially translated. Ian took out the name of her French degree because it was confusing, and if you look at the reference to the Lying in Hospital in DC it is laughable. Please feel free to correct the text based on what you are seeing. I have zero ownership issues with articles. I love learning stuff and write mostly to retrieve notable women from obscurity. @Belle: When it comes to translating I never know better. I don't speak any language well other than English and Spanish only barely. BUT, I work in the Caribbean which means 5 languages, Spanish, French, Dutch, English and Kriol/Creole thus I am really good with manipulating translation technology to read most of them. I check and double check and if I am even a little unsure I ask. I also studied chemistry so if it's Latin based I can usually figure it out, with the exception of French. Sourcing ideas

• Take a look at how I did Franklin's electrostatic machine - my last DYK #360. Notice I have an inline reference on almost every sentence. I have the inlines under "Citations" and the source of the book under "Sources". That would be following MOS = now they tell you there is a manual. Well, anyway = now you know! @Doug Coldwell: I totally get that you are trying to help. I wish I could explain to you how very, very frustrating and stressful I find dealing with these things are. I am not a programmer. I should not have to "figure out" how to input this stuff. There should be a citation pull down that when I fill it out automatically goes where it is supposed to go and is accessible again to change pages or anything else I might need to change. It is stressful enough that the citations template interrups the flow of writing. I looked at your file and have no idea how one inputs that. Are you saying that you create the sources first erasing the "ref" beginning and ending tags (which of course automatically print) and then input that snf code as you go? I don't know how I would make that work for me. I try to write 3 or 4 1500+ word articles per day. I cannot do stubs, I write sourced start class articles and as I have time expand them. But the goal is to try to work on the balance of articles on women. I don't have sources piled up to read through ahead of time, I input them as I go. Trying to find and input them all first and then reference back to them, I think would be a nightmare for me and make creating the files seem never ending. I don't work like that. I read a document, I type it in. I reference it. I read another document, I plug it in where it makes sense and reference it. I read another document. You get the picture. This has been yet another of those days where Wikipedia was excruciatingly stressful. It honestly makes me want to throw up. SusunW (talk) 23:18, 10 August 2015 (UTC)

• Yup - I do believe you get the idea how I do it. Right, I erase the "ref" beginning and ending tags as I don't need them. I put then in front a "*" and list it under "Sources" alphabetically. Then I use the "sfn" inline template to reference every sentence, since other editors are going to ask you where you got the info. Don't say I didn't warn you. Now comes a really BIG SECRET -----> make all your articles FIRST in a draft sandbox. It will alleviate all this stress you are talking about. @Doug Coldwell: I don't make them in a sandbox. I make them in a "Special:Mypage/xxx" template which I guess is pretty close to a sandbox. (If you press on a red link it gives you an option to do that.) I do that so I can save them because we have lots of power issues in Mexico. I think my citation way is much easier. I input it the first time using the pulldown cit and after that just note the source and page numbers. (Look at Amelia Bence) I think we get the same appearance, same functionality, but mine is actually easier. Don't have to deal with "sources or references" section, don't have to input them first and don't have to find a sfn template or fill it out every time. The articles themselves do not cause me stress. Cleaning up other people's messes does, which is all I have done today seems like and dealing with programming issues, which have nada, zero, nothing to do with writing articles, but it is impossible to create an article on Wikipedia if you don't program stuff. • Yes, you can just reply, since I have a "watch" on your page. No tag necessary.
• Yup - right again. I also do NOT do stubs. Check out my DYK articles and you will see they are complete articles on day 1 ready for DYK. I just "tweak" it after I have created it as a "new article" -> being a full article on the first edit on "creation". In reality I have been working on it in draft for 1 - 4 weeks offline. I then make it live when all done and submit it for DYK nomination the same day. Its worked for years this way for me and 98.44% of all my articles have become a Did You Know from the moment I started editing in Wikipedia. I don't think it's weeks. I've been on here almost a year and I still have no idea how to do most things. I do what I know how to do well. If I don't know, I ask someone because I cannot find references on here and if I do they are not usable. It is a really frustrating system to learn, instructions are non-existent, and if it weren't for the kindness of strangers, who become friends I would've given up long ago. I really don't like the situation at DYK and I only do it like for say women's month or some other event. Occasionally I will submit two or three files, but then I stop again because it is unpleasant. Peace in my life is worth way more to me than being right. I always question edit wars. It's Wikipedia for pity's sake. No one is going to die if something isn't fixed even years down the road. It is not a crisis, and yet they treat the work as if it is more important than the people. Well the work in as much as it is "interesting" to them. *sigh* I am going to submit Ferrari in a few days. • • • SusunW, you are doing all the right things! Don't give up! (Taking a break from the computer is wise on occasion... just don't tell anyone- nine years on wiki and I have never put up a "wikibreak" or "retired" template, no matter how pissed I've been! LOL!) The trick is to take the Kenny Rogers approach - "know when to hold 'em and know when to fold 'em" (I don't take my own advice, by the way). FWIW, I loooooove refill for online refs - all you have to do is pop the url in between two ref tags and then run the article through refill and it will get most of them and put them into proper templates. (Won't get them all, and for some reason won't do the New York Times at all - many refs you still have to do some cleanup, but it's a godsend anyway) Won't work for books, but for them if you do use the pull down citation menus in the editing box, did you know you can just input the ISBN of a book into the ISBN box and click the little magnifying glass? It will go out into the big world (I think worldcat) and automatically input all data it finds. Another speedy trick. I haven't tried it with a Spanish language book, but I'm guessing at least some will work, certainly anything in Google Books, most likely... Montanabw^(talk) 04:01, 11 August 2015 (UTC)

Thanks @Montanabw: I love that ISBN thing. I'd say it works on about 70% of my Spanish references. But that is still better than having to type them all in. I also learned that even if it is not a book you can view, often the ISBN is shown at the bottom of the page, but if it's not even if it just gives you a snippet you can click on the book link, and type in the search for it to look for the ISBN and it will usually give it to you. This refill tool I don't know so I shall save it on my page and play with it. I rarely have anything from the NY Times, for some reason they didn't write much about Latina women who were fighting for suffrage. I went over to es.wiki and just looked for an article with a bunch of raw urls to run through refill (being sure in that case to use the pull-down menu to go to es. wiki not en.wiki. (I do not speak Spanish, by the way) It works! [1] Montanabw^(talk) 04:59, 11 August 2015 (UTC)

@Montanabw: very cool. For the record, I do not "speak" Spanish either. I could say 7 words when we moved here. 5 yeas later, I now speak a mixture of Spanglish and sign language. • Chester H. Pond is an article I "created" today, using no hard copy books (only Google books). It is 3 times what I need for DYK and have submitted it today in a nomination. Thanks! Here is what I have discovered. When I do good articles like this I develop a reputation for doing good articles. Then when others want a quick QPQ with little problems, they use my new article. Also they attract top editors, to improve the article even more. Most of my articles go through the DYK process smoothly, since I have them well referenced. That's why 99% of all articles I have ever written have become a Did You Know. The Benjamin Loxley article was "created" on July 24 and became a DYK on July 26. Most do not go that fast, but most do go smoothly.--Doug Coldwell (talk) 10:42, 14 August 2015 (UTC)

@Doug Coldwell: I'm glad you enjoy DYK. I am really ambivalent about it at this point. My goal is to create well sourced articles on missing women. The women I work on played an important part in the history of their country and were often minorities (because again, they are who is most likely to be missing from the encyclopedia). They helped build educational systems and fought for voting rights, and reproductive rights, and were the first female engineers, lawyers, disability advocates, politicians and diplomats from their countries. They fill a much needed gap in the encyclopedia and if they inspire one young girl, I have done my job. If they "aren't interesting" to a whole bunch of people who write on popular culture, really isn't relevant to me. Whether I ever submit another article to DYK or not, remains to be seen, but regardless, I continue to learn and believe that Wikipedia has the potential to be a really important educational tool. Yes, Wikipedia will be a constructive tool for future generations in their education. It is recognized worldwide, especially in libraries. When I go into a library anywhere in the United States to use their computers I always let them know I am a Wikipedia editor - and every time they are very impressed. Explanatory note HELP!

Can someone tell me how to insert an explanatory note? I have read about 16 pages of citations and cannot for the life of me find what I want. On Tinúm Municipality at citation 4 is the word "numtzutzuy". While it's just peachy to know that Tinúm means crippled numtzutzuy, I don't really think that tells anyone anything. Further research tells me that numtzutzuy is a plant and I typed what I know and the source in "Notes", but I have no idea how to put a reference marker behind (in front of?) the 4 to tell someone to look at the explanation below. Here's the part about it that bothers me. Somedays I do four or five, yesterday I did none. It doesn't let you count those you do in excess and I'm not sure that I can do one every day. I don't like to commit to something I cannot do. I have guests coming from out of the country both this month and next. Makes me think I'll have issues, but I can try. • The "Premios Podestá" are named for the Podestá family and handed out by the Asociación Argentina de Actores (AAA) every year since 1991. [5] I doubt that there is a lot to say about them. The qualification for the lifetime award is being a member of the AAA for 50 years. 26 people got one last year. Plus there are special awards for people or organizations the AAA likes. Re:Cleopatra White images

I think this will have to be a non-free photo. The stamp dates from 1993 and I'd believe it's far too recent not to be under copyright. Was able to get to the Belize official government website, but the link to their National Archives given there, isn't working. The photo of her in uniform with no hat is definitely from the Belize National Archives-have a look at the full copy-at bottom right is the information for the National Archives. I see that the information here was taken from a copyrighted 1991 book MOTHERS OF MODERN BELIZE by the Belize National Women’s Commission. I can't find a copy of it at Google which lets me search, let alone view to see if the photo is in it.

If one could get to their National Archives, one could try determining when the photo was taken and published and something about their copyright laws. (We know they have them because the book above is copyrighted 1991.) What I can do is archive the photo with the Belize National Archives on it, make a nice copy and upload it as non free. Started reading and anonymous works are protected for 50 years after publication. We don't know who took this photo and we also don't know when it was first made public, so we'll have to stay with the non-free classification unless we can learn something more. Tell the good senator she's put the US system to shame--some people wait years for an answer from that quarter depending on what they're asking. :-) There's also provisions for works with known authors that protect the item for 50 years after the author's death. There have been all too many heated debates about stamps in various countries both here and at Commons. I tend to shy away from them because of that. Also, I think I'd rather see an actual photo of someone than a stamp image unless we're discussing the stamp itself--and sometimes you're not able to use a copy of that (the stamp) because of NFCC. :) We hope (talk) 22:09, 2 September 2015 (UTC)

I did some looking and found the photo on an additional website, but neither of them notes who took this picture. In order for them to be PD via USG, the photo has to be taken by someone who's working for the USG. Example-a soldier on duty takes a photo. Since he's working for the USG and was on duty at the time, this would qualify as PD-USG.

So I went to National Archives (NARA) to search through the photos of White House photographers. There's a copy of her infobox photo there because it was taken by the White House photographer during Clinton's administration. Absolutely nothing like this for Bush's term. Any news organization with proper credentials can go to photo opportunities and take photos for their company--and these would not be PD but under copyright by their respective employer. I put some tags on it, but it was just because it seemed easier than making a separate set of notes. According to the review of her autobiography and some photos I've seen she was on crutches for the whole of the election campaign; also I'd consider putting the Spanish names for the parties etc in the parentheses alongside the abbreviations because Junta of National Reconstruction (Spanish: Junta de Gobierno de Reconstrucción Nacional, JGRN) makes more sense than Junta of National Reconstruction (JGRN). Yes, I saw one picture that she was on crutches and a fleeting mention that she had a broken knee cap. Wasn't sure if it was trivia or if it should be mentioned in more detail. I also wasn't sure if it had to do with the osteoporosis which she apparently had numerous surgeries for. I usually put names in Spanish and people change them to English. LOL at least you and I think alike on that. I think they should not be translated. I wouldn't transfer your name if it was Isabela to Belle so why would I change La danza del fuego to Dance of Fire, but it happens all the time. I'd also like to have more photos, but I didn't find anything on commons than what is already in the article. Arteaga might well be one to tackle. I'd like to do one GA from each country in the Americas. Don't all have to be politicians, but someone who is important to that country and not well known in the English speaking world is a good candidate. But first to finish Chamorro.
