Can you list all red links on the Intertranswiki page for starting, once that's done I can begin editing it!♦ Dr. Blofeld 07:55, 11 August 2015 (UTC)

Dr. Blofeld of course. SusunW (talk) 13:15, 11 August 2015 (UTC)
@Dr. Blofeld: I "think" I got all of the red links in there, but who knows. I did the films first and then skipped through them in the article, but that may have missed a few. Ran all the people/things through Spanish wiki. Fortunately (or not as the sourcing goes) lots of them have articles. But, that's a lotta redlinks. SusunW (talk) 15:03, 11 August 2015 (UTC)
Cool, a lot of red links, yup, but definitely worth blue linking them rather than shutting them off. Hopefully Lugnuts and Lord Cornwallis can help clear the red links too!♦ Dr. Blofeld 15:12, 11 August 2015 (UTC)
@Dr. Blofeld: One of the reasons I listed people/places separately from films. I figured some of your film buddies would help. There are articles on Spanish wiki for many of the films, but usually they are completely unsourced, so I don't know how helpful that is. the [national cinema link] usually gives a fairly good overview. SusunW (talk) 15:20, 11 August 2015 (UTC)
Wow, that has to be a record, 77 red links in one article!!♦ Dr. Blofeld 16:11, 11 August 2015 (UTC)
Apparently that's what comes when you reach centenarian. You have encountered many notable things in life ;) But seriously, *who* says all the notable stuff has already been written? So much to learn, so many articles needed. SusunW (talk) 16:14, 11 August 2015 (UTC)
Cinenacional is OK for film stubs. You'll usually find something in google books on some of the films. There's a Dictionary of Argentine films that often picks up hits.♦ Dr. Blofeld 16:22, 11 August 2015 (UTC)
Thanks for the ping, Dr B! I shall add this to the list. It's film season again for me, so I'm in the mood for some red link destruction. Lugnuts Dick Laurent is dead 17:57, 11 August 2015 (UTC)

Papers

I was just looking at your article on María Teresa Ferrari and noticed the red links for La Patria degli Italiani in Italy and El Diario Español in Spain. I'm not sure they are Italian and Spanish newspapers (despite what the book says quite clearly; I have to be awkward). If you do a search for "La Patria degli Italiani" you'll see it only seems to have existed as an Italian language newspaper in Buenos Aires (you'll have to read Italian for that; I couldn't see any English sources). The Spanish one seems to be the same; I can't find any evidence of a newspaper ever existing in Spain with that name and the footnote on page 39 of this book points to one existing in Buenos Aires from 1905 to 1946. I wonder if Alvarez and Carbonetti just took Italiano and Español to mean they were based in those countries instead of in those languages. Belle (talk) 16:52, 11 August 2015 (UTC)

@Belle: I have no idea and unfortunately cannot open your link to the book. Something Rosie and I have learned and apparently has to do with IP blocks. Often what she can read in the US I cannot open in Mexico and vice verse. I was unable to find any source other than that brief Who's Who in English and Dr. Blofeld could find nothing on his side of the pond either. Maybe we change it to say something like Italian language paper and Spanish exile paper of Buenos Aires? I know that some things they partially translated. Ian took out the name of her French degree because it was confusing, and if you look at the reference to the Lying in Hospital in DC it is laughable. Please feel free to correct the text based on what you are seeing. I have zero ownership issues with articles. I love learning stuff and write mostly to retrieve notable women from obscurity. SusunW (talk) 17:01, 11 August 2015 (UTC)
Ok, I just wanted to check in case you knew better (and some people get sniffy about others interfering with their GAs; who could that be, Belle?) Belle (talk) 19:23, 11 August 2015 (UTC)
@Belle: When it comes to translating I never know better. I don't speak any language well other than English and Spanish only barely. BUT, I work in the Caribbean which means 5 languages, Spanish, French, Dutch, English and Kriol/Creole thus I am really good with manipulating translation technology to read most of them. I check and double check and if I am even a little unsure I ask. I also studied chemistry so if it's Latin based I can usually figure it out, with the exception of French. I love to listen to French, however. SusunW (talk) 19:54, 11 August 2015 (UTC)

Sourcing ideas

  • Take a look at how I did Franklin's electrostatic machine - my last DYK #360. Notice I have an inline reference on almost every sentence. I have the inlines under "Citations" and the source of the book under "Sources". That would be following MOS = now they tell you there is a manual. Well, anyway = now you know! Still recommend you get the "Harv Error" file -> then you can find your errors BEFORE others do. Just trying to help.--Doug Coldwell (talk) 22:43, 10 August 2015 (UTC)
  • These ideas I am passing onto you have worked for me, since from the 364 articles I have created I have 360 Did You Knows. Most of these skills I learned from the top editors like Dr. Blofeld and Nvvchar. I didn't make the rules, I'm just trying to follow them and learn the necessary skills along the way. I'm just giving you short-cuts.--Doug Coldwell (talk) 23:07, 10 August 2015 (UTC)
@Doug Coldwell: I totally get that you are trying to help. I wish I could explain to you how very, very frustrating and stressful I find dealing with these things are. I am not a programmer. I should not have to "figure out" how to input this stuff. There should be a citation pull down that when I fill it out automatically goes where it is supposed to go and is accessible again to change pages or anything else I might need to change. It is stressful enough that the citations template interrups the flow of writing. I looked at your file and have no idea how one inputs that. Are you saying that you create the sources first erasing the "ref" beginning and ending tags (which of course automatically print) and then input that snf code as you go? I don't know how I would make that work for me. I try to write 3 or 4 1500+ word articles per day. I cannot do stubs, I write sourced start class articles and as I have time expand them. But the goal is to try to work on the balance of articles on women. I don't have sources piled up to read through ahead of time, I input them as I go. Trying to find and input them all first and then reference back to them, I think would be a nightmare for me and make creating the files seem never ending. I don't work like that. I read a document, I type it in. I reference it. I read another document, I plug it in where it makes sense and reference it. I read another document. You get the picture. This has been yet another of those days where Wikipedia was excruciatingly stressful. It honestly makes me want to throw up. SusunW (talk) 23:18, 10 August 2015 (UTC)
  • Yup - I do believe you get the idea how I do it. Right, I erase the "ref" beginning and ending tags as I don't need them. I put then in front a "*" and list it under "Sources" alphabetically. Then I use the "sfn" inline template to reference every sentence, since other editors are going to ask you where you got the info. Don't say I didn't warn you. Now comes a really BIG SECRET -----> make all your articles FIRST in a draft sandbox. It will alleviate all this stress you are talking about. Now all you need is a bunch of sandboxes since you do many articles at once. Do you want me to make some for you?--Doug Coldwell (talk) 23:41, 10 August 2015 (UTC)
@Doug Coldwell: I don't make them in a sandbox. I make them in a "Special:Mypage/xxx" template which I guess is pretty close to a sandbox. (If you press on a red link it gives you an option to do that.) I do that so I can save them because we have lots of power issues in Mexico. I think my citation way is much easier. I input it the first time using the pulldown cit and after that just note the source and page numbers. (Look at Amelia Bence) I think we get the same appearance, same functionality, but mine is actually easier. Don't have to deal with "sources or references" section, don't have to input them first and don't have to find a sfn template or fill it out every time. The articles themselves do not cause me stress. Cleaning up other people's messes does, which is all I have done today seems like and dealing with programming issues, which have nada, zero, nothing to do with writing articles, but it is impossible to create an article on Wikipedia if you don't program stuff. I've written 311 so I know of what I speak. It is nonsense. SusunW (talk) 00:00, 11 August 2015 (UTC) Oh and did I say, I hate that I cannot just reply and must tag you every single time? Because I often forget and have to go back in and do that. SusunW (talk) 00:01, 11 August 2015 (UTC)
  • Yes, you can just reply, since I have a "watch" on your page. No tag necessary.
  • Yup - right again. I also do NOT do stubs. Check out my DYK articles and you will see they are complete articles on day 1 ready for DYK. I just "tweak" it after I have created it as a "new article" -> being a full article on the first edit on "creation". In reality I have been working on it in draft for 1 - 4 weeks offline. I then make it live when all done and submit it for DYK nomination the same day. Its worked for years this way for me and 98.44% of all my articles have become a Did You Know from the moment I started editing in Wikipedia. Its taken me years to learn all this and you are getting it all in just weeks.--Doug Coldwell (talk) 00:11, 11 August 2015 (UTC)
  • I have 1,833 articles on my "watchlist" - how many on yours? Look at the top of my Talk page on instructions in RED about what you are talking about.--Doug Coldwell (talk) 00:17, 11 August 2015 (UTC)
I don't think it's weeks. I've been on here almost a year and I still have no idea how to do most things. I do what I know how to do well. If I don't know, I ask someone because I cannot find references on here and if I do they are not usable. It is a really frustrating system to learn, instructions are non-existent, and if it weren't for the kindness of strangers, who become friends I would've given up long ago. I really don't like the situation at DYK and I only do it like for say women's month or some other event. Occasionally I will submit two or three files, but then I stop again because it is unpleasant. Peace in my life is worth way more to me than being right. I always question edit wars. It's Wikipedia for pity's sake. No one is going to die if something isn't fixed even years down the road. It is not a crisis, and yet they treat the work as if it is more important than the people. Well the work in as much as it is "interesting" to them. *sigh* I am going to submit Ferrari in a few days. She was my firs good article and whether they like the hook or not, I am not going to change it. LOL 903 on my watch list. SusunW (talk) 00:23, 11 August 2015 (UTC)
Could be me in reverse except that I almost always write about women or Mexico (or Oklahoma). And my husband and I have a date every night unless the rainy season makes it impossible to go out. SusunW (talk) 00:47, 11 August 2015 (UTC)
      • SusunW, you are doing all the right things! Don't give up! (Taking a break from the computer is wise on occasion... just don't tell anyone- nine years on wiki and I have never put up a "wikibreak" or "retired" template, no matter how pissed I've been! LOL!) The trick is to take the Kenny Rogers approach - "know when to hold 'em and know when to fold 'em" (I don't take my own advice, by the way). FWIW, I loooooove refill for online refs - all you have to do is pop the url in between two ref tags and then run the article through refill and it will get most of them and put them into proper templates. (Won't get them all, and for some reason won't do the New York Times at all - many refs you still have to do some cleanup, but it's a godsend anyway) Won't work for books, but for them if you do use the pull down citation menus in the editing box, did you know you can just input the ISBN of a book into the ISBN box and click the little magnifying glass? It will go out into the big world (I think worldcat) and automatically input all data it finds. Another speedy trick. I haven't tried it with a Spanish language book, but I'm guessing at least some will work, certainly anything in Google Books, most likely... Montanabw(talk) 04:01, 11 August 2015 (UTC)
Thanks @Montanabw: I love that ISBN thing. I'd say it works on about 70% of my Spanish references. But that is still better than having to type them all in. I also learned that even if it is not a book you can view, often the ISBN is shown at the bottom of the page, but if it's not even if it just gives you a snippet you can click on the book link, and type in the search for it to look for the ISBN and it will usually give it to you. This refill tool I don't know so I shall save it on my page and play with it. I rarely have anything from the NY Times, for some reason they didn't write much about Latina women who were fighting for suffrage. (eye roll, as if anyone did) SusunW (talk) 04:14, 11 August 2015 (UTC)
I went over to es.wiki and just looked for an article with a bunch of raw urls to run through refill (being sure in that case to use the pull-down menu to go to es. wiki not en.wiki. (I do not speak Spanish, by the way) It works! [1] Montanabw(talk) 04:59, 11 August 2015 (UTC)
@Montanabw: very cool. For the record, I do not "speak" Spanish either. I could say 7 words when we moved here. 5 yeas later, I now speak a mixture of Spanglish and sign language. I can read Spanish (and other Latin based languages) but keep two translator machines running at all times. ;) SusunW (talk) 15:09, 11 August 2015 (UTC)
  • Chester H. Pond is an article I "created" today, using no hard copy books (only Google books). It is 3 times what I need for DYK and have submitted it today in a nomination. I usually submit the DYK nomination on the same day I "created" the article, since it is more than big enough.--Doug Coldwell (talk) 19:39, 13 August 2015 (UTC)
Cool. I usually wait several days and decide if I really want to deal with the personalities or not. Usually I just decide I don't. SusunW (talk) 22:13, 13 August 2015 (UTC)
Thanks! Here is what I have discovered. When I do good articles like this I develop a reputation for doing good articles. Then when others want a quick QPQ with little problems, they use my new article. Also they attract top editors, to improve the article even more. Most of my articles go through the DYK process smoothly, since I have them well referenced. That's why 99% of all articles I have ever written have become a Did You Know. The Benjamin Loxley article was "created" on July 24 and became a DYK on July 26. Most do not go that fast, but most do go smoothly.--Doug Coldwell (talk) 10:42, 14 August 2015 (UTC)
@Doug Coldwell: I'm glad you enjoy DYK. I am really ambivalent about it at this point. My goal is to create well sourced articles on missing women. The women I work on played an important part in the history of their country and were often minorities (because again, they are who is most likely to be missing from the encyclopedia). They helped build educational systems and fought for voting rights, and reproductive rights, and were the first female engineers, lawyers, disability advocates, politicians and diplomats from their countries. They fill a much needed gap in the encyclopedia and if they inspire one young girl, I have done my job. If they "aren't interesting" to a whole bunch of people who write on popular culture, really isn't relevant to me. Whether I ever submit another article to DYK or not, remains to be seen, but regardless, I continue to learn and believe that Wikipedia has the potential to be a really important educational tool. SusunW (talk) 22:45, 15 August 2015 (UTC)
Yes, Wikipedia will be a constructive tool for future generations in their education. It is recognized worldwide, especially in libraries. When I go into a library anywhere in the United States to use their computers I always let them know I am a Wikipedia editor - and every time they are very impressed. As you can see I write on a large variety of subjects, including women firsts. As an example check out these on my list of Did You Knows - 353, 309,307,305,304, 303, 302,301,300, 297. Keep up the good work and if you need any hints you know where to find me.--Doug Coldwell (talk) 23:01, 15 August 2015 (UTC)

Explanatory note HELP!

Can someone tell me how to insert an explanatory note? I have read about 16 pages of citations and cannot for the life of me find what I want. On Tinúm Municipality at citation 4 is the word "numtzutzuy". While it's just peachy to know that Tinúm means crippled numtzutzuy, I don't really think that tells anyone anything. Further research tells me that numtzutzuy is a plant and I typed what I know and the source in "Notes", but I have no idea how to put a reference marker behind (in front of?) the 4 to tell someone to look at the explanation below. I linked it to the latin name I found. SusunW (talk) 16:35, 15 August 2015 (UTC)

My technique:
{{#tag:ref|Blah blah all the text I'd like to include in the note <ref>reference for that text</ref>|group="n"}}
and then at the bottom of the page, above the usual {{reflist}}, in a subsection called "Notes",
{{reflist|group=n}}
Hope that helps! This style is more thoroughly covered at WP:REFGROUP. FourViolas (talk) 15:15, 18 August 2015 (UTC)
@FourViolas: Woot! That is EXACTLY what I wanted. How you found that reference list, I have no clue, but I have saved the instructions on my page and corrected the note, so that it is now evident that the note is referring to the lovely cacti fruit. ;) Thank you so much! SusunW (talk) 15:28, 18 August 2015 (UTC)
Happy to help! There's a bunch of handy syntax at the bottom of the edit window (change "Insert" to "Wiki markup"), and I know how to use some of it. I also go around to different pages and copy-paste-tweak to the one I'm working on. FourViolas (talk)

Rollbacker

Hi SusunW. After reviewing your request for "rollbacker", I have enabled rollback on your account. Keep in mind these things when going to use rollback:

  • Getting rollback is no more momentous than installing Twinkle.
  • Rollback should be used to revert clear cases of vandalism only, and not good faith edits.
  • Rollback should never be used to edit war.
  • If abused, rollback rights can be revoked.
  • Use common sense.

If you no longer want rollback, contact me and I'll remove it. Also, for some more information on how to use rollback, see Wikipedia:New admin school/Rollback (even though you're not an admin). I'm sure you'll do great with rollback, but feel free to leave me a message on my talk page if you run into troubles or have any questions about appropriate/inappropriate use of rollback. Thank you for helping to reduce vandalism. Happy editing! Sadads (talk) 23:48, 26 August 2015 (UTC)

Sue Bailey Thurman

Let me give it a read tomorrow before it gets a GA review. Looks in good shape at a glance!♦ Dr. Blofeld 16:35, 27 August 2015 (UTC)

Thanks Dr. Blofeld I think I am only going to be able to add one more photo, after We Hope's analysis. SusunW (talk) 16:41, 27 August 2015 (UTC)
Once that's done I'll take a look at Bence, but a lot of red links still left to clear over the next few days, I'll help when I can.♦ Dr. Blofeld 16:48, 27 August 2015 (UTC)
I've sub stubbed the male actors. Can you help correct the imdb/cinenacional source links and flesh some of them out? I'll try to do what I can. I've left the female bios to you then and asked Aymatth2 to kindly take care of the remaining studio articles.♦ Dr. Blofeld 17:43, 27 August 2015 (UTC)
Dr. Blofeld cool. Yes, there are a couple of the guys whose names I have seen over and over who need to be fleshed out a lot, as you could see from the ones I have been picking and choosing. ;-) We actually got 2 more photos for the Thurman article. Move them around if you feel they are better placed elsewhere. SusunW (talk) 17:58, 27 August 2015 (UTC)
We hope again? Great! Looks like the best part of this evening will be spent fleshing out the actor stubs I just created so they don't get speedied as BLPs LOL. Can you work from the end of the list I created, I'm ploughing through in order of creation! Still four days to complete them all and get those articles off to GAN, still plenty of time.♦ Dr. Blofeld 18:02, 27 August 2015 (UTC)

Done most of them, can you add a bit to Roberto Fernández Beyró, Jorge Rivera López ‎and Pachu Peña?♦ Dr. Blofeld 19:09, 27 August 2015 (UTC)

Dr. Blofeld Certainly. May be later today have an afternoon appointment but I'll get to them. SusunW (talk) 19:14, 27 August 2015 (UTC)
Dr. Blofeld Could only expand one of them beyond a stub. But, they all have multiple sources and the two actors have their works incorporated from Spanish Wiki. Roberto Fernández Beyró sounds like a colorful character. SusunW (talk) 05:52, 28 August 2015 (UTC)
Great job Susun!♦ Dr. Blofeld 07:29, 28 August 2015 (UTC)
Can you get any glossier than Luisa Kuliok LOL. I look like a tramp compared to her haha!♦ Dr. Blofeld 08:02, 28 August 2015 (UTC)
a very long time ago, an American was lodging in our house and misunderstood when I complained something in the fridge "smelled like a tramp's Y-fronts", partly because of the UK / US English divide, but also they didn't know what a pair of Y-fronts were Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 10:15, 28 August 2015 (UTC)
So we can deduce that the Doc considers himself somewhat glamorous as he thinks he only looks like a tramp compared to the glossy Luisa. I'm hoping he's more Chap than Shoreditch Twat. Belle (talk) 10:30, 28 August 2015 (UTC)
LOL. I'm not saying she's a natural beauty, had a lot of work done, but the hair and makeup and airbrushing in that photo you have to admit are very professionally done! I'm the son of a Welsh surfer, country gent I aint!♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:44, 28 August 2015 (UTC)
@Ritchie333, Belle, and Dr. Blofeld: and so I am learning about panties while I sip my morning coffee. I am rolling! Lot more can be done with Kuliok's articles if the sourcing can be found. Spanish Wiki lists a ton of awards. I found nada. But I must admit I had many irons in the fire and needed to move on. SusunW (talk) 14:47, 28 August 2015 (UTC)
Panties?!? I never said anything about the Doc and panties [does a bit of sick in her mouth]; only joking Doc; I'm sure you can rock a tanga [is sick again]. Belle (talk) 14:55, 28 August 2015 (UTC)
I'm thinking it was Ritchie333 who brought up the garments. I had no clue. Y-front is not a term I had ever remotely heard of, but when one can learn something even before their first cup of coffee is finished it may be an omen of a good day ;) SusunW (talk) 15:50, 28 August 2015 (UTC)

SusunW, I dearly hope the sight of a bloke clad in only Y-fronts (and perhaps a string vest) is something you never should need to endure. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 17:51, 29 August 2015 (UTC)

Ritchie333 I must say the pictures in my head just now were sooooooo very difficult to endure ; ) SusunW (talk) 17:59, 29 August 2015 (UTC)
Why does [3] spring to mind LOL. I can assure you that I've not worn Y-fronts since I was about 7! Congrats BTW on your second GA Sue Bailey Thurman!♦ Dr. Blofeld 19:16, 29 August 2015 (UTC)

Thank you! But you and Dr. Blofeld along with others did all of the work. All I did was either shake my head (for no) or nod my head (for yes) for the images you found. :-D We hope (talk) 17:10, 30 August 2015 (UTC)

I neither have the skill nor knowledge to do the photographs and that was a huge burden lifted. You did way more than nod, writing all the rationale for their use and fixing the archival links. Hi, do you want to do that one as its a female critic?♦ Dr. Blofeld 20:47, 30 August 2015 (UTC)

Dr. Blofeld sure. SusunW (talk) 20:55, 30 August 2015 (UTC)
I recently created Category:Women film critics which as you'd expect is not very well filled!♦ Dr. Blofeld 20:57, 30 August 2015 (UTC)
Cool. I already added it to her file. There is a German article too, if the sourcing is there, can whip this one out quickly. SusunW (talk) 21:00, 30 August 2015 (UTC)
Lucia Bozzola is female too, Senior Movie Analyst at Netflix, also written for NY Times, Allmovie etc. Perhaps Rosiestep could start that one as I know she likes Netflix! Doesn't look like there's much biographically on her as most critics, but the weight of the papers she's reviewed for make her notable! Should be manageable to stub the remaining Steiger ones tomorrow then before the end of the month!♦ Dr. Blofeld 21:22, 30 August 2015 (UTC)
Dr. Blofeld James is done. Thank goodness someone archived the Brown University Magazine Alumni piece. All of the links on German Wiki were to LinkedIn and social media and the Brown University link was dead. But, I think we have enough to establish notability as she was the first female television critic for the Times. SusunW (talk) 22:36, 30 August 2015 (UTC)
Great job. I think I'll shut off the Bozzola link actually, yes there's hits but I can't find anything decent biographically.♦ Dr. Blofeld 10:07, 31 August 2015 (UTC)

Here's the part about it that bothers me. Somedays I do four or five, yesterday I did none. It doesn't let you count those you do in excess and I'm not sure that I can do one every day. I don't like to commit to something I cannot do. I have guests coming from out of the country both this month and next. Makes me think I'll have issues, but I can try. I'm game if you are @Rosiestep: SusunW (talk) 02:44, 31 August 2015 (UTC)
I'm good with waiting a bit as I, too, have trepidations about the commitment. Maybe January 1st. --Rosiestep (talk) 03:23, 31 August 2015 (UTC)
Well, I dived in Sadads commented that he couldn't guarantee he would have internet access, my situation too, but they'd get 100 articles, even if there were days missed. That I can do. Every day, maybe not, but 100 articles in 100 days, I can do. SusunW (talk) 03:38, 31 August 2015 (UTC)
@SusunW: Thats great! Yeah, I am letting no-internet days be break days, just because of the amount of other things going on in my life; its great to see more English Wikipedia contributors on the list :) Share it around to anyone who thinks would meet the criteria well, Sadads (talk) 14:54, 31 August 2015 (UTC)

Pablo Podestá

Steiger ones all done now, but Pablo Podestá really needs an expansion, very notable figure who even has a town and award named after him!♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:48, 31 August 2015 (UTC)

Yes him I've seen a lot. There is another one too, but I cannot remember and the list has been changed. Starts with a C Will work on Podestá and see how it goes. SusunW (talk) 13:19, 31 August 2015 (UTC)
Dr. Blofeld it was slow going, but I think I have him. For once, I found tons of books on him but they were pretty redundant. SusunW (talk) 00:16, 2 September 2015 (UTC)
Excellent work! I wonder if Aymatth2 thinks the prize article Premios Pablo Podestá is worth creating.♦ Dr. Blofeld 06:02, 2 September 2015 (UTC)
@Dr. Blofeld and Aymatth2: I took the liberty of changing the name from Premios Podestá to Premios Pablo Podestá in the red link. I am fairly sure I have seen that there is a Premios Blanca Podestá as well. [4] SusunW (talk) 06:09, 2 September 2015 (UTC)
  • The "Premios Podestá" are named for the Podestá family and handed out by the Asociación Argentina de Actores (AAA) every year since 1991. [5] I doubt that there is a lot to say about them. The qualification for the lifetime award is being a member of the AAA for 50 years. 26 people got one last year. Plus there are special awards for people or organizations the AAA likes. The trophy is a statue by Antonio Pujía. Aymatth2 (talk) 12:57, 2 September 2015 (UTC)

Five minutes to help make WikiProjects better

Hello!

First, on behalf of WikiProject X, thank you for trying out the WikiProject X pilot projects. I would like to get some anonymous feedback from you on your experience using the new WikiProject layout and tools. This way, we will know what we did right, and if we did something horribly wrong, we can try to fix it. This feedback won't be associated with your username, so please be completely honest. We are determined to improve the experience of Wikipedians, and your feedback helps us with that. (You are also welcome to leave non-anonymous feedback at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject X.)

Please complete the survey here. The survey has two parts: the first part asks for your username, while the second part contains the survey questions. These two parts are stored separately, so your username will not be associated with your feedback. There are only nine questions and it should not take very long to complete. Once you complete the survey I will leave a handwritten note on your talk page as a token of my appreciation.

Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you, Harej (talk) 17:49, 2 September 2015 (UTC)

Re:Cleopatra White images

I think this will have to be a non-free photo. The stamp dates from 1993 and I'd believe it's far too recent not to be under copyright. Was able to get to the Belize official government website, but the link to their National Archives given there, isn't working. The photo of her in uniform with no hat is definitely from the Belize National Archives-have a look at the full copy-at bottom right is the information for the National Archives. I see that the information here was taken from a copyrighted 1991 book MOTHERS OF MODERN BELIZE by the Belize National Women’s Commission. I can't find a copy of it at Google which lets me search, let alone view to see if the photo is in it.

If one could get to their National Archives, one could try determining when the photo was taken and published and something about their copyright laws. (We know they have them because the book above is copyrighted 1991.) What I can do is archive the photo with the Belize National Archives on it, make a nice copy and upload it as non free. How does that sound to you? We hope (talk) 21:01, 2 September 2015 (UTC)

We hopeThat would be wonderful. In the meantime, I can contact my buddy who's a senator and ask her for a copy of the copyright act, so we have it for future reference??? I'm doing a series of articles on Belize, and it might come in handy. Thank you mucho for your help! SusunW (talk) 21:08, 2 September 2015 (UTC)
We hope That has to be one of the fastest answers on record. She was on line. chapter 252 copyright law SusunW (talk) 21:13, 2 September 2015 (UTC)
My quick scan of it ... "fifty years from the end of the calendar year in which the work was made or first published". I have yet to find anything that indicates government use is different. SusunW (talk) 21:21, 2 September 2015 (UTC)
Started reading and anonymous works are protected for 50 years after publication. We don't know who took this photo and we also don't know when it was first made public, so we'll have to stay with the non-free classification unless we can learn something more. Tell the good senator she's put the US system to shame--some people wait years for an answer from that quarter depending on what they're asking. :-) There's also provisions for works with known authors that protect the item for 50 years after the author's death. We hope (talk) 21:52, 2 September 2015 (UTC)
We hope Yes, she's a keeper. Fair use works for me. As I said, I have about decided most of my women will only fit there. I questioned this one because it seemed a stamp was a public document, but what do I know? Not much ;) SusunW (talk) 22:02, 2 September 2015 (UTC)

There have been all too many heated debates about stamps in various countries both here and at Commons. I tend to shy away from them because of that. Also, I think I'd rather see an actual photo of someone than a stamp image unless we're discussing the stamp itself--and sometimes you're not able to use a copy of that (the stamp) because of NFCC. :) We hope (talk) 22:09, 2 September 2015 (UTC)

Woman's World's Fair

This article I created today.--Doug Coldwell (talk) 19:40, 4 September 2015 (UTC)

Very cool article. The one I created today Gwendolyn Lizarraga. I wanna be her when I grown up...not machetting through swamps. Total respect, but I am not likely be doing that. Dengue, malaria, and who knows what else all come to mind. SusunW (talk) 20:18, 4 September 2015 (UTC)

Gol Talab

Thanks for the review. Please sign your review here Template:Did you know nominations/Gol Talab I so thought I did that. Done now. Thank you! SusunW (talk) 04:34, 5 September 2015 (UTC)

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Gwendolyn Lizarraga, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Orange Walk. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Re: Violetta Chamorro

I did some looking and found the photo on an additional website, but neither of them notes who took this picture. In order for them to be PD via USG, the photo has to be taken by someone who's working for the USG. Example-a soldier on duty takes a photo. Since he's working for the USG and was on duty at the time, this would qualify as PD-USG.

So I went to National Archives (NARA) to search through the photos of White House photographers. There's a copy of her infobox photo there because it was taken by the White House photographer during Clinton's administration. Absolutely nothing like this for Bush's term. Any news organization with proper credentials can go to photo opportunities and take photos for their company--and these would not be PD but under copyright by their respective employer. We hope (talk) 17:24, 6 September 2015 (UTC)

We hope Thank you! That is sort of what I thought, but I was hoping, against hope that it was a White House photo taken by some staff member. Guess I am just stuck with what I have. :( SusunW (talk) 17:34, 6 September 2015 (UTC)
I looked for another free-to-use picture of her when I went through the article the first time, but I couldn't find anything. Unfortunately the national archive of Nicaragua hasn't quite obtained the level of sophistication of NARA: Awww, sweet. Belle (talk) 10:03, 8 September 2015 (UTC)
Belle okay, I hit the last two points. I'm thinking we are ready to submit her to GA. Ian reworked the lede and it is better for it. Do you think it's ready? SusunW (talk) 15:39, 8 September 2015 (UTC)
Yes; confusingly I replied twice to you earlier. Up there Ѧ (that's the closest I can get to an "up arrow") I said it should breeze through GA. Belle (talk) 15:52, 8 September 2015 (UTC)

Violeta Chamorro

I put some tags on it, but it was just because it seemed easier than making a separate set of notes. According to the review of her autobiography and some photos I've seen she was on crutches for the whole of the election campaign; also I'd consider putting the Spanish names for the parties etc in the parentheses alongside the abbreviations because Junta of National Reconstruction (Spanish: Junta de Gobierno de Reconstrucción Nacional, JGRN) makes more sense than Junta of National Reconstruction (JGRN). Good work from some paltry sources though, Rosalía Arteaga next? Shouldn't take long. Belle (talk) 00:22, 5 September 2015 (UTC)

Yes, I saw one picture that she was on crutches and a fleeting mention that she had a broken knee cap. Wasn't sure if it was trivia or if it should be mentioned in more detail. I also wasn't sure if it had to do with the osteoporosis which she apparently had numerous surgeries for. I usually put names in Spanish and people change them to English. LOL at least you and I think alike on that. I think they should not be translated. I wouldn't transfer your name if it was Isabela to Belle so why would I change La danza del fuego to Dance of Fire, but it happens all the time. I'd also like to have more photos, but I didn't find anything on commons than what is already in the article. Arteaga might well be one to tackle. I'd like to do one GA from each country in the Americas. Don't all have to be politicians, but someone who is important to that country and not well known in the English speaking world is a good candidate. But first to finish Chamorro. Too tired to do anything with her tonight, maybe tomorrow. ;) SusunW (talk) 00:43, 5 September 2015 (UTC)
I've gone through it again and left a couple of clarify tags in the economic reforms section; mainly I suspect because I don't understand restructuring debt. Apart from that it should sail through GA if I know anything about it; if you have any trouble with the reviewer, point them in my direction; I have a stiletto; unfortunately it is a shoe, not a knife, but I bet it will still hurt if I push them over and tread on them. Belle (talk) 09:55, 8 September 2015 (UTC)
Oh you make me laugh. I think we have done a stellar job with her! She is a much better article for your questions and clarifications. Even the query that Drmies had improved the gender section. So....we shall see what the reviewer thinks! SusunW (talk) 16:12, 8 September 2015 (UTC)
Yes, go for GA! Go! Go ! Go! Quick, before the green blobs run out! Belle (talk) 16:26, 8 September 2015 (UTC)
Well, it's done and apparently there are still green blobs available. Now, to do another leadership article for the editathon and analyze the next GA victim. SusunW (talk) 16:28, 8 September 2015 (UTC)
That was really quick; you submitted it before I'd finished typing. :D Belle (talk) 16:29, 8 September 2015 (UTC)
