Hello. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, such as on Talk:Barack Obama, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. You may also click on the signature button   located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your username or IP address and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when. Thank you. Jared Preston (talk) 21:33, 28 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

This promotional username should not be used.

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. I noticed that your username, The McChicken costs $1, may not meet Wikipedia's username policy because it is promotional. If you believe that your username does not violate our policy, please leave a note here explaining why. As an alternative, you may file for a change of username, or you may simply create a new account and use that for editing. Thank you. --Modocc (talk) 01:55, 13 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

I do not see the name as promotional. This is a guy apparently unconnected to McDonalds. Besides, excuse the pun, but a McDonald representative would not use such a cheesy name. The name is apparently intended as a joke, a satire, if you will. I am certain satire is acceptable. I once had to change my name because it was the name of my blog. But "The McChicken costs $1" is just a guy who was having fun and picked a funny name. Let's not discourage him or his contributions to Wikipedia with messages that may be scary to newbies. I say he should keep the satirical name. --LegitimateAndEvenCompelling (talk) 23:58, 15 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

If I went the other extreme and had the name "The McChicken is Poison", that would be a nasty name. I do not work for McDonalds nor am I critic of McDonalds. Frankly, I prefer Arby's. I orginally used a variation of my e-mail address but that name was taken. Actually it wasn't taken but the computer said it was too close (actually wasn't that close) to an existing name.   Hello, The_McChicken_costs_$1. Concerns have been raised that your username may be incompatible with policy. You can contribute to the discussion about it here. Alternatively, if you agree that your username may be problematic and are willing to change it, it is possible for you to keep your present contributions history under a new name. Simply request a new name here following the guidelines on that page, rather than creating a whole new account. Thank you. Modocc (talk) 01:38, 20 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

I commented there. I recommend you keep the name. And now I have to drive to McDonalds. --LegitimateAndEvenCompelling (talk) 04:19, 20 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Username blocked

edit

This account has been blocked indefinitely from editing Wikipedia because your username, The McChicken costs $1, does not meet our username policy.

Your username is the only reason for this block. You are welcome to choose a new username (see below).

A username should not be promotional, related to a "real-world" group or organization, misleading, offensive, or disruptive. Also, usernames may not end in the word "bot" unless the account is an approved bot account.

Please choose a new account name that meets our policy guidelines. However, do not create a new account if you wish to credit your existing contributions to a new name through a username change. To request a username change:

  1. Add {{unblock-un|your new username here}} on your user talk page. You should be able to edit this talk page even though you are blocked. If not, you may wish to contact the blocking administrator by clicking on "E-mail this user" on their talk page.
  2. At an administrator's discretion, you may be unblocked for 24 hours to file a request.
  3. Please note that you may only request a name that is not already in use, so please check here for a list of names that have already been taken. For more information, please see Wikipedia:Changing username.
If you feel that you were blocked in error, you may appeal this block by adding the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} below, but you should read our guide to appealing blocks first. ···日本穣? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WikiProject Japan! 09:00, 20 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
This is totally unfair. More people spoke out in favor of the name than against it. What, you just came along and decided you were going to do what you wanted? No consensus is needed except for Nihonjoe's?
SOMEONE PLEASE REMOVE THE BLOCK AND ALLOW THIS USER TO CONTINUE TO USE THIS NAME. --LegitimateAndEvenCompelling (talk) 12:48, 20 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
Caps lock. It's the key above the shift key. It appears that you hit it before you started shouting. The more shouting, the less your points are considered to be rational.--Terrillja talk 17:30, 20 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
Does anyone think a newbie with a perfectly acceptable name according to consensus is going to go through this unblock process? Didn't we just scare off this editor from editing out of sheer frustration? This is not fair. What, did some guy with wiki muscles make himself feel good forcing some newbie to change his name? --LegitimateAndEvenCompelling (talk) 12:52, 20 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
Endorsed, username is completly acceptable. Marcus Aurelius (talk) 14:24, 20 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
Note from blocking admin: This username has been blocked as a very clear violation of WP:U because it is a promotional username promoting a specific product. It is not similar to "Dunkin Donut Lover" or "My Camaro Does 125" (as mentioned in the discussion) as those are more fan usernames which have been allowed in the past. This one is clearly promotional, giving the name of the product and the price of the product. There is no ambiguity here. If he wants to change it to "McChicken Lover", that would be fine, but the current username is not acceptable in the least. ···日本穣? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WikiProject Japan! 17:20, 20 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
Agreed. --Terrillja talk 17:32, 20 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
He should change his name to "Who Cares About Consensus, No One Else Does. My Wiki Muscles Are Bigger Than Yours." --LegitimateAndEvenCompelling (talk) 18:55, 20 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
If you want to change the policy, then you need to discuss it there, not here or at RFCU. Three people saying they don't think it's too bad doesn't make consensus to change the policy. This username violates both the spirit and the letter of the policy. ···日本穣? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WikiProject Japan! 19:08, 20 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
