Request for Mediation.

Your request for mediation regarding your conflict with Diyako about the content of the article West Azerbaijan has been accepted. I'll be mediating, serving as a deputy mediator, providing that both parties accept.

The key to good mediation, I think, is knowing what is being disputed. Here's how I'd like to proceed:

1.) The dispute in question seems to be about specific factual material. For clarity, if for nothing else, I need a total understanding of what the factual material in dispute is. The request for mediation did not include that information. This is what I would like:

a.) The specific material that you are trying to include and which is being disputed. I can (and will) get material from the article history for my review, but I want a clear understanding of the disputed material from your perspective before we get into that. I don't want an argument for the inclusion of the material. I just want to know what it is.

b.) Citations and sources for the material discussed above. I don't want an argument for the validity of the sources. I just want to know what the sources are.

2.) In every dispute that gets to this level, there's bound to be a personal element beyond the factual debate. I'd like a summary of your specific complaints in this matter. Namely:

a.) I'd like you know what point-of-view the other user is unfairly pushing. I do not want an argument as to why your point of view is better or more accurate. I just want to know to what end you believe the other using is making the challenged edits. I do not want extensive evidence that the POV is being pushed.

b.) I'd like to know what tactics against policy the user is employing, if any, to push this POV or to personally punish you for promoting your own. (This doesn't include whether or not he is citing his facts. I am more interested in personal attacks, excessive reverts against policy, et cetera.)

3.) I will digest all of the above and we'll move to the next phase.

I prefer not to rush these things, as time gives tempers a chance to cool. The reason that we're starting out this way is pretty simple: I want to make sure that we all know what we're fighting about. It's amazing how often disputes get this far without the participants ever being entirely clear on what's disputed; they get so caught up in the argument, they forget what they're arguing about! I think making sure that's clear is the best way to begin.

Here are my rules and/or guidelines:

1.) I prefer that we work through e-mail. 2.) During the process, I reserve the right to ask other users, involved or otherwise, for their opinion on the matter. Outside perspective is good, is what I say. 3.) Questions that you may have for me before the process begins can be dropped on my talk page. It'll keep things more organized and we can proceed from there. 4.) Really: No arguing in phase one. If need be, there will be arguing of facts later. It's just distraction at this point.

Persian people#History

Could you take a look at the first sentence in this section? It claims that Persians are descendants of some "Aryan tribes" migrating from Central Asia. Sounds like outdated racial theories to me. The same source (Britannica) says Persians are of mixed ancentry, but when I try to add this in people remove it. I don't think this is consistent with WP:NPOV. I just wanted to prove a point. I know that there is no such thing as a pure race and etc. and I beleive I am on the record as directly or indirectly stating that, but I did want to prove a point that although Azaris are Turcophones they have very little differences with either Kurds or Persians and are ethnically Iranian. I have given various sources, academic and self-discriptatory, historical and scientific, to prove this. User:Grandmaster makes claims that ethnicity is souly defined by language. I have pointed to African states as examples to prove him wrong, but he he insists on forcing his view. His claims that Azaris are Turkic also have no citations in concerns to their genetics. He has forced me to verify everything I have stated, but does not do so for his own cliams which are now long standing. I personally think this is unfair and only want to fix the artical. My concern is the artical and I am not here to act as an antagonist or be a trouble maker as user:Grandmaster has labeled me. 72.57.230.179

A largely functioning demo of ICU can be found here (it does't pick up some characters in Persian). I have explained about it. It's not practical. We need a clear guideline, then we can change all the pages without this kind of lenghty discussions in each article. Oh and also, there is no difference between Ä and Ə in English Wikipedia. If an extra character is going to be used, then use Ə, it's at least origiinal. --TimBits 19:17, 3 July 2006 (UTC)

@Tim - Ooooh you will make it very difficult for me.... As I have to be in Montreal till Saturday and wanted to stay for the extra conference-day in Boston on Monday too. But just for considering my options:

What time can you be in Montreal thursday-afternoon and what time do you arrive in Boston?

What time do you leave Boston monday-morning and what time do you arrive in Toronto?

Or can you check-out monday-morning as necessary, and then stay also during the day for this extra conference-day and perhaps at the end of the afternoon drive with me to Toronto...?

What are you charging for driving with you either one way or two way?

Thank you for your quick response. As I am now by co-incidence for a longer time near a computer with internet. I normally are not because travelling and walking around.

I have not registered yet for Wikimania due to no answer on my request for (a partially) scholarship and me being very low budget at the moment. My intentions are to be at least one conference day present and one evening and also during the extra-conference-day on Monday.

I still have not found a place to sleep in Boston. So it is a bit tricky to go there and find upon arrival no bed available anymore.

I have posted on craigslist a request for ridesharing directly from Montreal to Boston prefarably leaving on a Saturday, but have had no definate responses (or other day or opposite direction), will have to wait a little longer and hopefully I succeed.

To conclude: Better take in consideration that you drive from Toronto directly to Boston (and not via Montreal). Furthermore that we try to meet each other on Sunday some time and then discuss whether it is possible to drive with you from Boston to Toronto the next day.

Would like to take an option for travelling with you in your car, leaving sometime on Monday in the afternoon and that I also drive -if necessary- for a few houres and that we use the evening and/or some houres in the night to arrive in Toronto - (Space)

Due some external circumstances will arrive now saturday 2nd half of afternoon, try to reach then immediately Harvard Law School.

N.B. cannot check e-mail or internet when I am travelling; only perhaps upon arrival somewhere at the conference venue. Try to catch up with the last bit of the 2nd day as well as the informal/social activities in the evening.

Hopefully we can meet each other otherwise during the sunday

Hi Tim! I have noticed your signature around, and I would like to let you know that the Wikipedia guideline on signatures specifically states: "Images of any kind must not be used in signatures ", and ask you to edit your signature to remove the flag icon of Canada from it. While I understand patriotism, this is what our userpages are for. There are a number of issues that signature images cause (please refer to the link above), which is why they aren't allowed. April - National Contribution Month

Good day TimBits,

During the month of April, Wikimedia Canada is preparing the National Contribution Month, and we are looking for experienced contributors to organize a contribution day (or half-day) in their region.

Contribution days are activities where Wikipedia's contributors, students, or anybody interested in contributing to Wikipedia meets together to collectively improve a predetermined theme. This meetings generally take place in library where references are easy of access, but can be organized in any communal room. Beside improving articles, a goal of this participatory workshops is to initiate neophyte in the cooperative contribution of Wikipedia.

If you are interested in organizing or participating in a contribution day in your region, communicate witht he national team on the project's talk page. The exact agenda of each local event is left to the discretion of the organizer. Help is available for the organization from contributors who already organized these type of days, so don't be worried. If you have any questions or want more information, don't hesitate to contact us.
