Advice...
editHey, thanks for your help in reverting vandalism. We always need people to help out. However, in the future, make sure to check the history to revert far enough back to remove any additional vandalism. See here for what I'm talking about. It's no big deal, so don't worry about it. We just don't want small things to slip through the cracks. Thanks. :-) --LV (Dark Mark) 15:45, 23 June 2006 (UTC)
- Yeah, I noticed that right after I rved :\ Thanks for catching it! --TurabianNights 15:46, 23 June 2006 (UTC)
- Yeah, no problem. I figured it was just a slip, but thought I'd remind you nonetheless. Cheers. --LV (Dark Mark) 16:05, 23 June 2006 (UTC)

what u think of my name? =P
editI'm from Chile, my name's Arturo Subercaseaux. Arturo is the spanish version of Arthur as u may guess. Is it a proper name for a french surname? =P Arturo #7 18:48, 11 August 2006 (UTC)
- Haha, I guess you've read my blog! Arturo is a fine name. I visited Chile this spring, and it's a lovely place.--TurabianNights 18:53, 11 August 2006 (UTC)
Well, from what I can see this level of persistance needs an administrator. I warned the IP in question; if he continues, I'll give one more warning then report him to administrators so that he can be banned temporarily. If he becomes willing to chat, then I'll help mediate while you guys discuss matters. Cheers, Master of Puppets The Walrus! 03:30, 24 August 2006 (UTC)
- Thank you!--TurabianNights 04:28, 24 August 2006 (UTC)--TurabianNights 04:28, 24 August 2006 (UTC)
- Ok, I gave him a final warning. Now, if he continues, I'll put him up at Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism, which is patrolled by at least 3 admins all the time. The admin reviews it quickly, and, as in this case, if the offender has had a last warning, the admin will ban him temporarily. If he keeps going at it when he's unbanned, just post him there again and link to his block history; that way, the admin will see that it's a repeat offender and lengthen the block. And so it goes. Hope that helps! Cheers, Master of Puppets The Walrus! 20:58, 24 August 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks so much. I just wasn't sure if this counted as vandalism or what. It's truly bizzare.--TurabianNights 22:22, 24 August 2006 (UTC)
- Well, it wouldn't be vandalism if he stopped and sat down to chat a bit; however, seeing that he continued without even trying to communicate, that's regarded as vandalism. In the future, if you meet someone like that, or someone who's plainly just purely vandalising, drop a {{test1-n|"Pagename"}} template on their page, without the quotation marks, of course. So, for example, if someone was vandalising Captain Kirk, just drop a {{test1-n|Captain Kirk}} template on their page. If they continue, move it up to 2 ({{test2-n|Captain Kirk}}), then 3, then finally 4. After they've breached 4, just report them to AIV. Cheers! And if you have anything you feel you don't understand, don't be shy to come and ask about it.Master of Puppets The Walrus! 02:13, 25 August 2006 (UTC)
- Oooh, and I forgot one more important thing; whatever type of template you're laying down, always remember to put {{subst:}} before it. So if it's a {{test1-n}}, turn it into {{subst:test1-n}}. Do that for every template; typing subst substitutes the template. Normally, when someone comes upon a page with a template on it, the server has to go and fetch the template, then paste it in where it goes. However, by substituting, the server replaces the template with the full code, meaning the server doesn't have to get the copy; this makes wait times easier on those with slower connections and lightens server load. So try to substitute all your warnings. Thanks and cheers, Master of Puppets The Walrus! 02:26, 25 August 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks! I actually did recent changes patrol for a long time before contributing much to articles, but I was unfamiliar with the importance of the subst template.--TurabianNights 02:30, 25 August 2006 (UTC)
Making things up.
editI deleted your "criticism" section because it contained no factual information and no documentation. If we start an Auroville opinion page I will be happy to paste it in.
Earlgray
Hi Earlgray, great to see you here. As it stands, none of the Auroville article is cited. I am merely maintaining both praises and criticisms of the community as they existed before I got to the article. Until there are citations for both sides of the story, I am rather inclined to keep both sides in the article, which I'm sure you can understand.--TurabianNights 01:29, 25 August 2006 (UTC)
Javascript
editYou mentioned that you did recent changes patrol; well, I just wanted to introduce some tools that may be useful. If you want, go to User:Master of Puppets/monobook.js and copy all of the text on that page that's in the grey box; then go to User:TurabianNights/monobook.js and paste it in via the edit command. Then, hard-refresh your browser (ctrl-F5 for most browsers), and you should notice some tools on the left-hand toolbox that have been added. Explore with those a bit, they're mighty useful; I find Filter Recent changes to be a saviour, as combined with one of my other tools, you can revert vandalism and warn the vandal in about 2 clicks. Cheers (and as always, if you have questions feel free to ask), Master of Puppets The Walrus! 02:40, 25 August 2006 (UTC)

- This is totally fabulous and gorgeous. Why did I not talk to my friendly Wikipedia greeter sooner? I am sure this will be a big help until I pull out all my hair and burn out on WP. ;) --TurabianNights 02:51, 25 August 2006 (UTC)
- Lol, speaking of which; I'm sure you know this, but try to pace yourself a bit. There are people who try to defeat all of Wikipedia's evil in one day and end up in a sterile white room rocking against a pillowed wall while people look through a one-way glass and say to themselves, "He was such a promising Wikipedian..." Anyway, have fun, stay safe, and don't take more than 500 milliteres of Wikipedia a day. :P Master of Puppets The Walrus! 03:07, 25 August 2006 (UTC)

Earlgray has smiled at you! Smiles promote WikiLove and hopefully this one has made your day better. Spread the WikiLove by smiling to someone else, whether it be someone you have had disagreements with in the past or a good friend. Smile to others by adding {{subst:smile}}, {{subst:smile2}} or {{subst:smile3}} to their talk page with a friendly message. Happy editing!
I think I know what has happened there but as a newby to Wiki it took me a while to figure it out. Some of the original information on the Auroville article was definitely posted by someone with a bad will. It was incorrect and inserted only to put a negative slant on the topic. The IP you are noticing could be 100 or more people from different cultures and languages who are trying to correct it and who didn't really take the time to read up on or understand the wiki-etiquette. Everytime you revert it, they probably think you have a hostile intent and so on and on it goes. I doubt there is an attempt to sanitize, only to correct and put a good face on things. The Aurovilians I know aren't afraid to air their dirty laundry, as long as it's truly their own! Anyway I don't think we're in need of arbitration on this.
It's a good place to get to know and I hope you do. The Auroville website is a good place to begin. I don't think it's too preachy and if you look it over you can see they're really doing a lot of good things.Earlgray 06:11, 25 August 2006 (UTC)
- I'm glad so much has cleared up! I hope you don't hold my stubbornness on the article against me - it's just been rather chaotic over there in recent weeks (and indeed, continues to be today!). To be honest, though I am sure Auroville is doing a lot of good things, I try not to get too personally involved in potentially touchy subjects I am writing about on WP. I don't really want to root for one side or the other when trying to make an NPOV page, so I use the Auroville pages to look for facts, but I keep my blinders up for a lot of the ideology behind it. Perhaps unfortunate, but it's helpful, encyclopaedically... for me, anyway. Regardless, I'm looking forward to working with you (and the multitude of other editors springing up out of the woodwork!) on the page! --TurabianNights 07:53, 27 August 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for the spell check. :) Earlgray 21:07, 29 August 2006 (UTC)
- No problem! I don't have the energy for any major edits, I'm so busy with another WikiProject, but I like to check in every now and again :) --TurabianNights 21:08, 29 August 2006 (UTC)
Saint John Roberts
editI see you have rated the article on Saint John Roberts as start class. I think this is certainly a fair assessment, especially given that most of the text was taken from the Catholic Encyclopedia. However, I would be keen to see the article get up to a higher level, and so was hoping you might say what's holding it back, and suggest some ways in which the article could be improved. Thanks, Robotforaday 16:16, 28 August 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for your quick reply! As far as I'm concerned, feel free to put in the infobox and anything else you think helpful. I'll get onto finding some pictures in the meantime. I know of other sources (in particular Bede Camm, who presented the causes for various Benedictine martyrs, and who I've used in making an article for Maurus Scott). There is also information in various books on the history of the English Benedictine Congregation, but I'd have to have a check of them before putting anything new in. I put what's there up in haste because I wanted to tidy up the Downside Abbey page with shorter bios of its martyrs and link to articles about the specific martyrs (still not done, actually). While John Roberts had an article it had very little in it, so I just raided the Catholic Encyc. It's been my intention to go back to it with other sources when I can. Adding {{WikiProject Saints}}
editHi TurabianNights: just letting you know that my bot, MetsBot is adding {{WikiProject Saints}} to all pages in Category:Saints and its subcategories, so there's no need for you to do that by hand. You are welcome to go through Category:Unassessed saints articles, which articles will be added to after being tagged with this template and assess the articles, however, which the bot cannot do. —Mets501 (talk) 22:04, 28 August 2006 (UTC)
- Hooray! Thanks for letting me know. I'm glad I didn't tackle Roman saints like I was planning to do today!--TurabianNights 23:23, 28 August 2006 (UTC)
- No problem :-) Only 480 articles left now! —Mets501 (talk) 00:53, 29 August 2006 (UTC)

Help Prevent Article Deletion: Religious Perspectives on Dinosaurs
editHello, I'm leaving you this message because I notice you've made at least one significant edit to the Wikipedia article Religious perspectives on dinosaurs. The article has recently been nominated for deletion from Wikipedia, and there is considerable support for that position.
I'm hoping you'll help me support the continued existence of the Religious perspectives on dinosaurs article by registering a keep vote on the article's request for deletion page. The article contains some good information, and represents an unobtrusive way to present notable minority viewpoints about dinosaurs that cannot reasonably be elaborated on in the parent article. It shouldn't be deleted simply because the viewpoints it presents aren't "scientific."
Thanks! Killdevil 03:53, 30 December 2006 (UTC)
- I appreciate you notifying me on about the deletion discussion, but I should tell you that I would have voted "keep" only to keep the info out of Dinosaur. With extensive research and a vast citation overhaul, I think the Religious perspectives on dinosaurs article could be a fine article in and of itself; as it is now, I mostly view it as a repository for people with religious views on dinosaurs to put their unverified opinions. Better than putting it in Dinosaur! Thanks for the heads-up, though.--TN | ! 21:15, 1 January 2007 (UTC)

How is removing vandalism considered vandalism?
editSo is Lex Luger really a homosexual who performed oral sex on Sting? I don't see how my removing that from his page constitutes vandalism. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 207.69.136.204 (talk) 09:42, 3 January 2007 (UTC).

Hello TurabianNights!
You are cordially invited to participate in WikiProject Christianity
The goal of WikiProject Christianity is to improve the quality and quantity of information about Christianity available on Wikipedia. WP:X as a group does not prefer any particular tradition or denominination of Christianity, but prefers that all Christian traditions are fairly and accurately represented. |
You are receiving this invitation because you are a member of one of the related Christianity Projects and I thought that you might be interested in this project also - Tinucherian (talk) 05:00, 24 April 2008 (UTC)
The article Louise Bourgoin has been proposed for deletion because under Wikipedia policy, all biographies of living persons created after March 18, 2010, must have at least one source that directly supports material in the article.
If you created the article, please don't take offense. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Wikipedia:Referencing for beginners or ask at Wikipedia:Help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within ten days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. Auntof6 (talk) 19:02, 4 August 2010 (UTC)

New Rational Skepticism WikiProject member asking for look at Theosophy entry
editSince you are an active participant in the Rational Skepticism WikiProject, would you mind looking over the Wikipedia entry on Theosophy to see if you find any concerns?
I've been ordered to fix the page so that it accords with my understanding of the NPOV policy. I'm happy to do that but I have a lot of work at my job.
Now I've been told that I must make the changes by April 30th or the NPOV tag will be removed. I simply can't learn how to use Wikipedia as a newcomer, become familiar with all the sources, and make the edits if I must do it all by April 30th.
Would you look over the Theosophy page? Also, can you recommend anything? Thanks much,Factseducado (talk) 15:26, 27 April 2012 (UTC)

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Special:WantedTemplates
editHi, I have been cleaning up Special:WantedTemplates and noticed that Special:WhatLinksHere/Template:"_+_"oldafdfull"_+_" is pointing to your monobook.js pages. clearly these are false positives (basically a bug in how WP parses .js pages). it would be really great if you could add // <syntaxhighlight lang=javascript>
to the top and // </syntaxhighlight>
to the bottom of those pages. by putting these tags in comments, it won't prevent the javascript from executing, but it will remove those pages from Special:WhatLinksHere/Template:"_+_"oldafdfull"_+_". alternatively, if you are no longer using the monobook skin (many people are using vector these days) and don't need to keep the old page, you could just have the page deleted. thank you in advance for your help.
