Ways to improve Bridge the Divide

Hi, I'm Babymissfortune. Uhtregorn, thanks for creating Bridge the Divide!

I've just tagged the page, using our page curation tools, as having some issues to fix. This page is tagged for two issues.

The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, you can leave a comment on my talk page. Or, for more editing help, talk to the volunteers at the Teahouse.

Hi, I wanted to direct you to WP:REFB and see if you're familiar with using the refToolbar. I noticed some of the citations you're adding are showing up a bit wonky (the article title isn't clickable, and the URL is showing up as bare text). Let me know if you have any questions on formatting citations, thanks. Marquardtika (talk) 21:36, 2 August 2018 (UTC) Just saw this. Thanks for the advice.Reply

You seem to have introduced some WP:COPYRIGHT violations here. I specifically noticed "His record on firearms legislation earned him the 'NRA lap dog' label from the Brady Campaign, a leading gun-control group' ", which is copied word-for-word from the source. Please address this ASAP. Marquardtika (talk) 18:54, 31 August 2018 (UTC) So it just needs to be in different wording?Reply

Right, we can't copy wording directly from sourcing. I'll leave you the COPYVIO notice below with more information. Marquardtika (talk) 14:59, 1 September 2018 (UTC)Reply

Hello Uhtregorn, and welcome to Wikipedia. All or some of your addition(s) to Carlos Curbelo have been removed, as they appear to have added copyrighted material without evidence of permission from the copyright holder. While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues here.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. (There is a college-level introduction to paraphrase, with examples, hosted by the Online Writing Lab of Purdue.) Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • Our primary policy on using copyrighted content is Wikipedia:Copyrights. You may also want to review Wikipedia:Copy-paste.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Wikipedia. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into the public domain (PD) or under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. Such a release must be done in a verifiable manner, so that the authority of the person purporting to release the copyright is evidenced. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • In very rare cases (that is, for sources that are PD or compatibly licensed) it may be possible to include greater portions of a source text. However, please seek help at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions, the help desk or the Teahouse before adding such content to the article. 99.9% of sources may not be added in this way, so it is necessary to seek confirmation first. If you do confirm that a source is public domain or compatibly licensed, you will still need to provide full attribution; see Wikipedia:Plagiarism for the steps you need to follow.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps in Wikipedia:Translation#How to translate. See also Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Marquardtika (talk) 14:59, 1 September 2018 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of Dewi Meirion Lewis

edit

The article Dewi Meirion Lewis has been proposed for deletion because it appears to have no references. Under Wikipedia policy, this biography of a living person will be deleted after seven days unless it has at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp/dated}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within seven days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. ~~ Alex Noble - talk 20:25, 19 February 2020 (UTC)Reply

COI

edit

Hello, Uhtregorn. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on the page Koch industries, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. Horse Eye's Back (talk) 17:42, 29 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

Ha! This is laughable. Interesting that you are jumping to conclusions without any discussion. Rather than Assume Good Faith, you are actively hostile, leading one to fire back with the same question... do YOU have a COI?
Most of your edits are explainable by reasoning other than COI. This one I have a problem with though [1], I can't think of a good faith explanation other than COI or vandalism besides a simple mistake which it does not appear to be. This wasn't a copy edit and it wasn't correcting vandalism, so what was it? Horse Eye's Back (talk) 18:21, 29 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
An anonymous SPA added "denial" when "skepticism" would be more appropriateUhtregorn (talk) 02:45, 30 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
Why isn't denial appropriate? Denial is whats in the article and denial is what WP:RS say the organization engages in, right? Horse Eye's Back (talk) 18:43, 29 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
There's also due & undue weight and one of the things considered is what the source is. Proper attribution should be considered with a source.Uhtregorn (talk) 02:45, 30 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
What does that have to do with the perfectly valid category you removed? It wasn't vandalism and it was accurate, so why did you remove it while crying vandalism? Horse Eye's Back (talk) 20:46, 29 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
Change your tone. You are in violation of Assume Good faith and Civil. Your history looks impassioned and I advise you to take a step back and get back to a calm, rational state of mind.Uhtregorn (talk) 02:45, 30 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
My apologies, I did not mean to offend you! Just trying to understand whats going on here. Are you aware that alleging vandalism where none exists is against WP:AGF and WP:CIVIL? Horse Eye's Back (talk) 22:22, 29 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
Ok, maybe vandalism was the wrong word. But its an SPA with no registration doing a drive-by edit on a page with a history of POV pushes. Hard to not assume its someone with a POV. Editors often (forgivably) forget to keep personal bias out of activity. No one is immune to it, its completely human to get impassioned about something. Doesn't matter how we feel about a subject, we should remain as unbiased as possible.Uhtregorn (talk) 02:45, 30 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
Might I suggest that you let your POV get the better of you in this situation? Horse Eye's Back (talk) 01:55, 30 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
Aiming to remove POV is not a POV. I could suggest the same thing in your situation.Uhtregorn (talk) 02:45, 30 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of Rohen Shah

edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Rohen Shah requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person, a group of people, an individual animal, an organization (band, club, company, etc.), web content, or an organized event that does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". First Media Corporation moved to draftspace

edit

An article you recently created, First Media Corporation, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more in-depth coverage about the subject itself, with citations from reliable, independent sources in order to show it meets WP:GNG. It should have at least three. And please remember that interviews, as primary sources, do not count towards GNG.(?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page.Onel5969 TT me 10:56, 2 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hello, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. A page you recently created, Draft:U.S._Ransomware_Task_Force, may not conform to some of Wikipedia's guidelines for new pages, so it has been moved to where you can continue to work on it. Please consider using the Article Wizard or the Articles for Creation procedure. For more information about creating articles, you may want to read "Your first article". Speedy deletion nomination of Draft:U.S. Ransomware Task Force

edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Draft:U.S. Ransomware Task Force requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from https://decrypt.co/120105/doj-fbi-hive-network-ransomware-infiltration, https://www.healthlawadvisor.com/u-s-department-of-justice-announces-interagency-task-force-to-combat-covid-19-relief-fraud, and https://aag-it.com/the-latest-ransomware-statistics/. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Cut and paste move

edit

Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you tried to give a page a different title by copying its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into U.S. Ransomware Task Force. This is known as a "cut-and-paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is legally required for attribution. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.

In most cases for registered users, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page (the tab may be hidden in a dropdown menu for you). This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other pages that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Requests for history merge. Thank you. Liz Read! Your draft article, Draft:First Media Corporation

edit

Hello, Uhtregorn. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or Draft page you started, "First Media Corporation".

Proposed deletion of Let America Vote

edit

The article Let America Vote has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

LAV got some national media attention when it first launched, but that's mainly a function of having a good publicist and the fact that the group's founder was coming off a high-profile Senate run. The fact that they seem to have gotten barely any national coverage since then (nothing cited on this page and I couldn't really find anything) shows they aren't really notable. Most of the coverage I could find was primarily about LAV's partner group, End Citizens United.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.

This bot DID NOT nominate any of your contributions for deletion; please refer to the history of each individual page for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 10:01, 18 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

Deletion discussion about Refugee lens investing

edit

Hello Uhtregorn, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia.

While your contributions are appreciated, I wanted to let you know that I've started a discussion about whether an article that you created, Refugee lens investing, should be deleted, as I am not sure that it is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia in its current form. Your comments are welcome at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Refugee lens investing.

Deletion discussions usually run for seven days and are not votes. Our guide about effectively contributing to such discussions is worth a read. The most common issue in these discussions is notability, but it's not the only aspect that may be discussed; read the nomination and any other comments carefully before you contribute to the discussion. Last but not least, you are highly encouraged to continue improving the article; just be sure not to remove the tag about the deletion nomination from the top.

If you have any questions, please leave a comment here and prepend it with {{Re|North8000}}. And don't forget to sign your reply with ~~~~ . Thanks!
