Some suggestions

edit

If the article makes no credible claim as to why the subject is notable, it may be "speedily deleted", so to avoid that I would suggest that you think about why the subject of the article might meet Wikipedia's notability guidelines and state this clearly in the introduction, for instance that he was recognized as being the first person to do something special. This would need to be supported with a reference, for instance to a magazine article about him. Feel free to ask my advice on my talk page. --Boson (talk) 21:41, 17 September 2015 (UTC)Reply

In reply to your question on my talk page (feel free to answer here, I will watch this page for a while): The main problem here is establishing that the subject meets the notability guidelines, and it may be that this is not possible. Your proposed statement goes in the right direction of making a credible claim to such notability, but any claim should be backed up by published, reliable, independent sources. A source stating that his postcards are "sought after by collectors" would be helpful. More on this below, but it is probably best to be very careful with words like "iconic" and best to avoid stating prices (since their assessment may require expert judgement). A sourced statement that he was a pioneer in the field might help. I would recommend reading the policy page Wikipedia:No original research, in particular the bits about primary, secondary, and tertiary sources. What you really want are secondary sources where Besaw and his work are discussed. Official records, catalogue entries, credits or simple mentions are not sufficient for establishing "notability" (in the sense used by Wikipedia policies and guidelines). By the way, the ISBN you gave for the book by Semas needs fixing (it should be 0-7385-3109-X) as does the series title for the Zech book. As regards adding Besaw to the list of notable residents of Reedley, the page can be edited in the same way as this page. If the article on him is accepted, his notability is established, so it might be a good idea to wait. Otherwise you should substantiate his notability there (for instance with an inline reference to a book that states that he was a resident of Reedley and states or implies that he was notable). If you are using the classic editor (rather than Visual Editor), an inline reference to a book can be added by inserting text in the following format: <ref>{{Cite book |series=Images of America |title=Reedley |first=Kenneth |last=Zech |publisher=Arcadia|isbn=978-1-4671-3267-1 |date=2015|page=6|quote= }}</ref> --Boson (talk) 14:52, 20 September 2015 (UTC)Reply
