Dragon Ball names

edit

Shenlong is the manga name but I see that the priority here is given to anime names. The article about Kuririn is called Krilin, in the article about Bulma is written "Bulla" instead of "Bra" as her daughter name, in the List of Dragon Ball characters it's written "Shenron" instead of "Shenlong" etc. Why not keeping this method and be consistent? Fleyzk (talk) 02:04, 9 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

The Dragon Ball (manga) article is solely about the manga and therefore uses the names used by the manga's official English publisher. It wouldn't make any sense to use spellings that never appear in the work that the article is about. There are millions of things that have multiple spellings/names. If you link Panda bear it takes you to Giant panda. But that doesn't mean using "panda bear" is wrong and shouldn't be allowed. The Dragon Ball character articles weren't always like that, they went down the drain several years ago and I gave up on them because there are too many users who don't even know DB is a manga first and foremost. Also, per WP:NOTBROKEN there's no reason to change Shenlong (Dragon Ball) to List of Dragon Ball characters#Shenron as you did in your last edit. Xfansd (talk) 02:24, 9 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
Sorry 🙏🏻 I didn't get the notification of your reply and so until now I thought you hadn't replied to me yet. OK, I got it. What bothers me is the inconsistency between the articles. You say it's the others fault, but if all, I repeat, all the other Dragon Ball articles in this encyclopedia use the other names, why don't you fit in with them instead of being so stiff? We should think about the good of the encyclopedia, not that everyone writes as he wants. Indeed, Wikipedia has actually chosen which names to use and you seem to be the only one to write them differently. However I would like to solve this thing, so I ask you if you could think about it or I will change the names in the other articles (or maybe only in the Dragon Ball Super manga one) Fleyzk (talk) 20:29, 9 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
@Fleyzk: The article for Dragon Ball Z uses the spellings that are used in that anime's official English version. The article for Dragon Ball: Origins uses the spellings that are used in that game's official English version. And so on, and so on. It's not a matter of Wikipedia decided to use one set of spellings across the entire mass media franchise (that is never the case for anything), it simply happens that the official English versions of those different works use the same ones. When I was blaming other users, I was referring specifically to "Dragon Ball character articles". Like I said there was a period when we had the manga names for those too. But consensus can change and one user came along and got enough people to agree that per WP:COMMONNAME, the Funimation names should be used. But note, that is for those specific character articles and does not mean every other article that mentions the characters has to use those names. Even though consensus can change back to the manga names, I stopped editing DB character articles altogether because like I said too many people are uneducated on the series and don't even know it's a manga. For example, Master Roshi opens with the line "known in Japan as Kame Sennin as well as Muten Rōshi". No mention at all as to how those are actually official English names. But my disgust with the character articles is irrelevant. The DB manga page uses the official English manga spellings, there's simply nothing to discuss as far as changing that goes and nothing to "solve" as you put it.
Dragon Ball Super is a different can of worms because it is two significantly different medias, that each use different official spellings, but are both covered in one article. There was never an actual discussion on how to lay that article out; is it a manga first, an anime first, which plot to follow, which spellings to use. The article seems to have recently settled naturally on it being a manga first and foremost, since that one started first and has continued for years while the anime ended. Since you brought this up tho, I'm thinking perhaps there are now enough sources and enough major differences that a split of Dragon Ball Super (manga) and Dragon Ball Super (TV series) should be done. Xfansd (talk) 22:11, 9 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
Thank you, now it's all clear. I have only one request: can I write manga names on the Dragon Ball Super article too? So at least the two manga articles would be the same. (And the DB Super manga has become more important than the DB Super anime, which has ended 5 years ago). And then I would like to do some little edits on the Dragon Ball manga article. Not about names, just small things to fix. Fleyzk (talk) 22:27, 9 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
@Fleyzk: Using manga names on DBS sounds good to me. For the Dragon Ball manga article tho, I just want to point out that I reverted edits where you added an "ō" to the English Weekly Shonen Jump (American magazine) and Shonen Jump (magazine), because that is not in their official spellings. I'm also against changing links such as Shenlong (Dragon Ball) to List of Dragon Ball characters#Shenron per WP:NOTBROKEN. All that does is increase the size of the page. Also, you don't need to ask anyone for permission to edit articles. Xfansd (talk) 22:46, 9 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

Gackt's new revision on Japanese Wikipedia

edit

Hi, do you know Japanese language? Can you help with the new revision of the article Gackt at Japanese Wikipedia? I need someone to do WP:TRANSLATEUS of the article on English Wikipedia in the form which can be found at User:Miki Filigranski/sandbox. If cannot, do you know some other editors I can ask?--Miki Filigranski (talk) 08:59, 15 December 2023 (UTC) Anyway, started a discussion at the article talk page.--Miki Filigranski (talk) 15:29, 15 December 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hi, I do not know Japanese. Maybe ask someone listed at Category:Translators en-ja or Wikipedia:Translators_available#Japanese-to-English. Xfansd (talk) 21:52, 15 December 2023 (UTC)Reply

Fujiko Mine edit

edit

If the assumption isn't good enough, can you explain why Patricia Kobayashi is credited as Fujiko in the Lupin III: The Mystery of Mamo page (I did not put it there). If you want to reply, reply on my talk page. Signed, Hil-LOL-ious (talk) 13:24, 31 December 2023 (UTC)Reply

@Hil-LOL-ious: It was also added without a source. Then a user made this kinda vague edit which seems to claim the 2021/2022 edition of Discotek's release lists all the Toho actors that were already listed on that Wiki page (which is suspicious) but makes sure to note that they are a "guess" and "not confirmation". I don't have the release and therefore can not personally verify or even clarify exactly what it says. If you wanted the conversation to be on your talk page, you should have started it there. Your revert is wrong

edit

The file name doesn't say it is the prison museum, but as a person who has been there, it is the museum too. It's just an older picture and that's why a newer picture makes more sense so others won't make the same mistake as you. The museum is still what the article is about, it mentions the history of the prison etc too. This is just an older part of the prison uses now as the entrance to the museum. Nesnad (talk) 05:36, 12 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

I understand that you've been to the museum, but are you saying you've been to the actual prison too? If so, why didn't you take pics of that? The current infobox image matches this pic (which is used on the Japanese Wikipedia page and is labeled as the actual prison gate), where we can see the space in front of the gate is significantly different than the space in front of the museum here. Also if you really study them, you can see some differences in the bricks but most notably in that window/hole thing towards the peak. I suppose you could claim Jap Wiki is mistaken and speculate the gate and the area in front of it was rebuilt when they added the fake security guard, but that comes off as a leap. All of this considered, I personally believe them to be of the prison and museum respectively. Regardless, if none of the gate photos are of the actual prison, then I believe the infobox should be photo-less or use that big one in the article from June 2010. We should not give the museum the prominent infobox position. Xfansd (talk) 22:29, 12 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
Fair enough. Didn't think they would recreate the same gate. I only saw the current prison from a distance. Checked satellite pictures and I might have been wrong and you could be right. Sorry to bother you. Cheers, Nesnad (talk) 19:21, 13 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for adding the source to the Kurama image. By any chance have you seen one for Gon Freecss by Togashi? I think the one we are using in the article was digitally colored by Shueisha.Tintor2 (talk) 21:01, 23 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

It definitely was not colored by Togashi, that's for sure. What do you think about this one or this one? Sure, neither are perfect. But they are in color and 100% by Togashi, so I personally prefer them over the currently used one. 21:22, 23 March 2024 (UTC)~~

June 2024

Okay, so i saw you on some pages i was editing, which takes me back. You might recall me from the edits to Red Swan. I just wanted to apologize for the editing warring i did at that time. I did not understand Wikipedia's manual of style back then, and i was also slow at understanding other things. Just wanted to say that, but it's good to see you're still active. This was maybe unnecessary, but i thought i should say this. That is all. Lunar-akauntotalk 13:34, 21 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for your thanks. Per WP:MUTUAL If you don't mind, would it be alright to delete the conversation we'd had on the talk page since the argument I made provides no significance for the future and was just a blatant violation of WP:ALTTRACKLISTING and MOS:ALLCAPS? Lunar-akauntotalk 13:27, 22 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
I don't really see the point given it happened over 2 years ago and the fact that you've since changed your username, but if you want to do it it's OK with me. Does this mean I am "Editor B" and am the one who has to do the actual removal? Are we agreeing to remove both discussions all the way back to and including your very first comment at Talk:Red Swan (song) from Oct 3, 2021? Xfansd (talk) 15:08, 22 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
Yes. I was fine with keeping it from whatever i recalled of it, but i re-read it, and to say i want to hide under a rock would be an understatement. I hope you understand. I did not know english very well back then, among other things. <( _ _ )> Lunar-akauntotalk 15:21, 22 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

Slayers lists

edit

Hello. While I've been busy with other things lately, I've been thinking about making List of Slayers light novels (I've created a sandbox for it on my page) and List of Slayers episodes featured lists at some point. Can you help? Thanks, Lord Sjones23 (talk - contributions) 03:34, 5 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

I can only help in a limited way on the novels. I have only read what J-Novel has released physically (Coincidentally, I just got the latest omnibus and hope to create plot summaries for them this week.) and don't know anything about its publication in Dragon Magazine or the spin-offs. I saw you changed a line to "premiered as a group of short stories" in the mag. The first novel was written for a contest and I got the feeling and assumed the other main entries were written as complete novels too. So wouldn't serialized or published in the mag "by chapter" be more accurate? Or simply return it to the vague "serialized in". Using "short stories" implies to me a fix-up.
Aside from sources for Slayers Delicious, the list really only needs summaries right? I personally think it should have a more detailed lead (with sources), but that was removed shortly after I created the article. Xfansd (talk) 05:07, 5 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
I've corrected some of the sentences you've mentioned in the lead section. While I've been working on the list in my sandbox and started a discussion on the length of the lead sections for lists on the WP:ANIME talk page, we can always ask for further advice regarding Slayers there. Also, I think the Slayers Delicious and the other spin-offs/prequels on that list might need some summaries as well. Lord Sjones23 (talk - contributions) 05:18, 5 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
The KanzakaDex Wiki says the first story of the first volume of Special was actually the first thing in the franchise to be published when it ran in the mag in 1989. It might be the case that the main novels weren't published in the mag at all, only the spin-offs. And all the spin-offs seem to collect short stories. If so, that would make the "short stories" term correct when speaking of what ran in the magazine. But I'm just speculating, I can't find sources for anything. I agree the spin-offs need summaries. But like I said, I haven't read them. So sorry to say, but I don't want to read fan written ones and spoil the stories for myself just to write new ones for wiki. This is what I meant by I can only give "limited" help. Xfansd (talk) 14:25, 5 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
Got it. Thanks. Lord Sjones23 (talk - contributions) 14:30, 5 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
