Michael Lyons
editHello. I have also been preparing a site for Michael Lyons, but was told to do it through the AFC process and the wiki review process, plus add more references, do more work etc. I did that and it took weeks. Now someone else has created a site for Michael. Seems unfair that because I followed a review process all my work is now rejected. I assume it’s ok to add to the other site. Michael is my father in law so I have a lot of extra information. Drsteveb (talk) 06:47, 24 July 2019 (UTC)
- @Drsteveb: Hi thanks for the message. The Articles for Creation page is designed for newer users to Wikipedia and allows you to build a page and get it reviewed by more experienced editors. Those of us who have been around the block a bit are able to create pages from scratch without going through AfC. I hadn't even thought to look for an AfC artcile for Michael Lyons as the chances that someone else was immediately working on a page I wrote was very, very small. Yet here we are. I started the biography as some of Michael's work is now on display in the York Museum Gardens and I do a lot of improvements for content related to York Museums Trust. By no means are your edits rejected, Wikipedia is a collaboration and no-one has any ownership of pages or the content we create for the Wiki. Please do start adding new or extra information straight onto the Michael Lyons page! I follow the page and all additions will be flagged to me. I'll happily review the edits that come in and make sure that they meet the house formatting and style. As you've said you are related to the subject of a page, it would be good for you to first read Wikipedia's guidance on conflict of interest so everything is kosher. Make sure that all facts are referenced somewhere. You might have knowledge about Michael that is both true and accurate from first hand experience, but the Wiki does need to be correctly referenced so that all information is verifiable. If you have questions do let me know. Zakhx150 (talk) 10:03, 24 July 2019 (UTC)
- @Zakhx150: Hello, thank you for your feedback, and sorry if my initial note was a bit short and to the point, i was on a dodgy phone signal deep in the Forest of Dean and wasn't sure if my message would even get through. If the tone was a bit accusatory that's probably because i felt a bit miffed, but in the cold light of a new day, and with wise words from yourself and others i see there isn't an issue and I (the family) are grateful that you have set up the page for Michael. Given the issue of CoI, can i ask that you have a look at the draft page i set up draft:Michael Lyons (sculptor) and see if anything there would add to what you have already put up, i am happy for you to use it, or can add it myself if you are happy. Many thanks. Stephen
