VanEnkevort Tug & Barge is an American shipping line, founded in 1967, that specializes in shipping bulk cargoes in tug barge units.[1][2]
In 2018 the firm was charged with negligence over allegations an anchor dragging from one of its tugboats, the Clyde S. VanEnkevort, damaged three transmission cables and dented an oil pipeline in the Straits of Mackinac.[3]

The VanEnkevort arrived in Toledo a few weeks ago, where the Joseph H. Thompson/Joseph H. Thompson Jr. were waiting. The VanEnkevort mated with the Joseph H. Thompson, leaving the Joseph H. Thompson Jr. alone. VanEnkevort's plan is to have the VanEnkevort push the Joseph H. Thompson (likely to be renamed at some point) and the Joseph H. Thompson Jr. (expected to be renamed Dirk VanEnkevort) push the new barge Michigan Trader upon its completion at some point next season.

The 2018 strike and resulting spill propelled negotiations over the future of Enbridge's decades-old Line 5 oil pipeline in the Straits. It prompted former Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette to file suit against VanEnkevort Tug and Barge Inc., alleging its tug was responsible for the alleged anchor strike.
