The Last of Us is an action-adventure survival horror video game developed by Naughty Dog and published by Sony Computer Entertainment. It was released for the PlayStation 3 video game console in June 2013, and for the PlayStation 4 console in July 2014 as The Last of Us Remastered. Players control Joel, a man tasked with escorting the young Ellie across a post-apocalyptic United States, meeting several characters throughout the journey. The game, which had a four-year development led by game director Bruce Straley and creative director Neil Druckmann, was widely anticipated. Its original score was composed by Gustavo Santaolalla. The game received critical acclaim, earning numerous year-end accolades. Its release was accompanied by other material, including the comic book American Dreams and the downloadable content Left Behind. A remake, titled The Last of Us Part I, was released for PlayStation 5 in September 2022, and Windows in March 2023.
