British Museum related articles have two main sets of categories, artefact type and quality of article. The artefact type categories should be by British Museum department and the article quality categories are intended for the article talk pages rather than the main article page.
Further information on this project can be found at WP:GLAM/BM.
Category Tree
editThe current category tree can be seen at tree where category:British Museum is the top parent.
Artefacts
editArtefacts in the museum should be in one BM department rather than placed in British Museum. Categories available are:
Category:A History of the World in 100 Objects should be used to classify all artefacts that have been mentioned on the radio series and articles relating to the series.
Apart from notable collections within a department, sub-categorization should be avoided unless the number of articles at the department level becomes unwieldy.
People
editAll biographical articles should be under Category:People associated with the British Museum or its sub-categories. {{BM-related}} on the associated talk page should only be used for (non-living) historical figures.
Articles in the "people" sub-categories (Trustees, Directors & Staff) have been ignored in the qualitative and quantitative assessments so as to avoid potential conflict of interest by focusing on current employees. However, articles in the main "people" category have been included as these are important historical figures.
Other
editThe museum history and general articles may be left under Category:British Museum.
Category:British Museum-related articles by quality and Category:British Museum-related articles by importance should not be added to articles but are automatically added to talk pages by the {{BM-related}} template.
