The Graphics Lab is a project to improve the graphical content of the Wikimedia projects. Requests for image improvements can be added to the workshop pages: Illustrations, Photographs and Maps. For questions or suggestions one can use the talk pages: Talk:Graphics Lab, Talk:Illustrations, Talk:Photographs and Talk:Maps.
This specific page is the requests page for the illustration workshop. Anyone can make a request for an illustration to be improved or created for a Wikipedia article. Clicking the "New Request" button will bring you to a standard template for submitting requests, as well as general advice that should be followed.

    Advice to requesters

    All requests:

    • Please make sure your request is "legitimate" by copyright. If the image(s) are in the public domain or freely licensed, you are fine. If the image(s) are "Fair use", there are only certain things we can do with them without falling afoul of Wikipedia's fair-use policies.
      • If you are requesting assistance with a copyright or fair-use image, don't display it on this page; place {{GLNF|Example.png|caption|align=left}} to create a link to it. Do not add the File: extension. Our fair-use policy does not allow displaying fair-use images out of their articles on ANY account.
    • Please check back regularly to see if progress has been made or if any additional questions need to be answered before the request can be completed.
    • If a request is done to your satisfaction, please mark it with {{resolved}}.

    SVG requests:

    • Make sure your request can actually BE vectorized. Note that vector drawings are not suitable for certain applications. We generally use SVG format for icons, logos, drawings, maps, flags, and such. Certain things, photographs especially, are totally impossible to vectorize.
    • Per our non-free content policy, vectorization of copyrighted images is not permitted. If a vectorized non-free image is desired, seek out such an image from the copyright holder.

    Dutch flags

    edit
    Article(s)
    Bavel, Galder, Strijbeek, Ulvenhout
    Request
Hi. Here are four flags that each belong to a village in Alphen-Chaam, North Brabant, the Netherlands. These villages are Bavel, Galder, Strijbeek and Ulvenhout. Apart from being in the same municipality, they also share another similarity, their flags are nearly identical to each-other and this isn't a coincidence as they're all near each-other. The four flags contain the exact same pattern of four parts bisected in a Nordic Cross manner though without an actual cross. On the top line, a white square on the left and a green rectangle on the right. On the bottom line, a red square on the left and a red white rectangle on the right. The only difference is all four also add a symbol from their coat of arms and place it on the white square at the top. My request today is for someone to kindly please vectorize these flags and I add them here all together due their nearly identical design. Thanks in advance!--109.76.249.135 (talk) 21:00, 2 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

      Bumping thread. 109.79.30.209 (talk) 18:17, 30 September 2024 (UTC)I'm still looking for this request to be fulfilled.--109.79.30.209 (talk) 18:17, 30 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

A few tips for a quicker answer to a future request:
    • When you're this far into Wikipedia, please make an account? It's not polite to demand a shrubbery without a proper introduction.
    • Please, keep your request simple: 13 pictures and 7 lines of text make it look like you're asking for a lot of illustrations to be made.
    • If you include empty slots, like these, we get a clear indication that the task isn't finished yet.
    • As a reference, the flag of Almere would be enough, because it has the format you want and its colours are closest to the request.
    • The pieces in the heraldic weapons are different from the flags as they are sold and used in the villages, which means that they'd better left out here. The gifs are the proper, but not very detailed, images to work with.
Three illustrations yet to be made. (I don't have the time right now to make the rest.) To be continued...

    Request

This Louisiana Air Guard emblem needs a couple small adjustments. First, the words have an irregular size and slightly warped appearance, and they appear to get smaller and larger as one reads across. Secondly, the fleur-de-lis emblem is tilted slightly to the left. Indefatigable2 talk 16:31, 5 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

Please vectorize this banner, there is a photo zooming in on the inscriptions but it looks like a faded print and there is a drawing showing probably the original colors. Both images were created at the Somerset Military Museum, which owns the flag but does not display it [1]. The flag has fringes, I've added another file to help with this element, but I don't expect any specific way to represent them. Swiãtopôłk (talk) 17:07, 6 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

Request: Logo for a new series of articles on social choice and mechanism design

    edit

Requesting help with a new logo (?) for a sidebar of articles on social choice and mechanism design. I've created the following examples using an AI image tool, but I don't know enough about graphic design to fix this:

All of these designs look solid in general, but they have lots of mistakes in the details, which I've labeled. There's also minor mistakes you can find in all of them, like random unnecessary lines or the checkmark being crooked. – Closed Limelike Curves (talk) 04:09, 10 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

I understand the reasoning behind this, and I'm not going to argue about it, but I'd like to ask a few questions to clear up any confusion: why is a PNG to SVG request on multiple images on character pages, such as the Yoshi and Elmer Fudd ones, when they aren't free images? Why are there SVG images on characters with presumably non-free images, such as Mr. Krabs or Marvin the Martian? Thank you for your time. NintenBOUND (talk) 13:50, 25 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hi! It should hopefully be alright to get higher-quality vector versions of these two free-use logo files with the same rationale for the two free-use vector files at File:Downeaster logo.svg and File:Northeast Regional logo.svg, so long as these logo files won't be exported to Commons. For the Acela logo, it would be preferable for the newer design variant on the Avelia Liberty trainsets to be used, which features a monochromatic navy blue color scheme. -- OrdinaryScarlett (talk) 02:34, 2 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
