You can freely release a photo following the procedures at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. However, there is no guarantee that the image will then be used in the article. the editors decide what is appropriate. Misstake in table on Mobile telephony in Africa

Mobile telephony in Africa#Current situation

This is supposed to be a table on the 10 main mobile telephony providers in Africa, it has 11 entries and one of them, Airtel, is clearly wrong, the percentages does not add up and there is no mention of Airtel in the source that is referenced. Editing Gas Detector

Hi I have just submitted an edit for the subject of Gas detector.

I received a warning listing about my edit. As this is my first time ever making an edit like this I am not sure if it is a standard procedure or if I have genuinely done something wrong. I have referenced and linked to an article that I wrote on our web page on the topic. However before I did this I checked a couple of other references on the page and they linked to websites. Could it be the original article was going to be a blog but I have changed it to be a static page on our website. I think the URL still mentions blog but not sure how to remove it?

Before I continue I would like to make sure I am doing the right thing.

@AegisSafety: Your edit triggered an edit filter and was not saved. You should have seen MediaWiki:Abusefilter-warning-links-containing-username. The problem is that you tried to add a link containing your username. As you also indicate here, it is your own website. Such links are often inappropriate and added for promotional purposes but the filter is automated and has not evaluated your specific case. Hi KaivalyaNagavekar. There is no automatic translation between languages. You can search the language links on the left hand side of any page to see if there is an article in the Marathi Wikipedia (mr:मुखपृष्ठ) but there is none for Vaisakhi. This really only leaves you with looking for information from some other website or source in Marathi. You could use Google Translate to view a machine translation of the page from English into Marathi (see here) but machine translations are notoriously poor.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 14:33, 27 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

List of Hindu gurus and saints

I always see Wikipedia as the highest source of information in any subject. But when I was reading the list of Hindu gurus and saints I failed to see the name of his holiness Sri Chandrasekerendra Saraswati (paramacharyal) who the people of South consider as the holiest sage lived in the last century. Being the greatest devotee of him and many people from South being highly devoted to him on behalf of all I put this request to you please add his name in the list.

I am a professional copy-editor for organizations that do not have native English writers. I would like to offer my services to organizations that have Wikipedia entries which are not well-written. The work I would offer would not be marketing work (except, of course, that better language gives a better image), but simple brush-up of grammar and style.

Would this paid service go against the spirit of Wikipedia?

I tend to disagree. Assuming, for the purpose of argument, that the service this person is proposing to offer is in fact copy-editing and re-writing of existing articles, with no significant change in content, I don't see this as violating the current COI guideline. What the "spirit of Wikipedia" demands is hard to say, not all will agree. It seems to me that improvements in the grammar and language of articles that do not introduce or increase bias are quite in line with the "spirit of Wikipedia". That said, i would advise that if the OP goes forward with this s/he should: 1) register an account; 2) disclose this service on his or her user page, along with a list of articles edited in connection with this service, and a list of the clients who paid for each; 3) also disclose such paid editing on the talk page of any article so edited. The proposed change to the Terms of Use would require something of the sort, and it would be best to get in line with it early, in my view. DES (talk) 22:22, 27 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

People hold honestly differing opinions on this matter, but If I recall correctly, there was an RfC that would have effectively banned all paid editing, and that proposal did not achieve consensus. So when asked for advice, we should not act as if that were the policy. Stating our own opinions is perfectly proper, particularly when asked about the "spirit of Wikipedia" rather than the letter of the current policy/guideline, but it is not a bad idea to make it clear that there is a range of views on the point. I had a previous communication with Osrarius regarding my latest contribution to Wikipedia via external links I added to LifeMap Discovery database (http://discovery.lifemapsc.com/). Since Osrarius seems not to be active these days, I would like to address this issue here with you. In brief, I noticed that all the external links I put during last month were removed by him, apparently because of conflict issues.

I would like to kindly clear this matter with you:'LifeMap Discovery database', is an novel up-to-date database that integrates multiple scientific areas such as developmental biology, stem cells and regenerative medicine which is reviewed constantly by a group of qualified scientists all over the world. Our intention is to provide additional valuable information to Wikipedia users about relevant subjects (e.g., links for human organ/tissue development and more).

Nevertheless, LifeMap people have been in dialog with WikiPedia about contributing content and imagery to expand upon developmental biology subjects.

If such a contribution as the external links seems to be problematic, I would like to kindly ask what is the best way we should approach it.

I would highly appreciate your thoughts on this.

If you wish to provide information, it is better to incorporate it into the article and cite it, rather than simply provide an external link. Well, it looks like the article is repeated twice so cut back to only one, the citations do not have enough enough information (publication date , author - the "cite" widget above the editing box can help with that formatting). The section titles "Format" and "Music" are not intuitive to me and after reading them, seem to serve more of an advertisement than encyclopedia coverage, which would focus more on history and impact. -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 14:43, 27 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Felllatio pictures

I'm rather liberal, but you may not be aware of the photo's on the Wikipedia page "Fellatio". The scientific and legal definitions are OK it's the drawings that you might want to examine for appropriateness. I would think from the definition of the word fellatio one would understand its a verb describing a sexual act. I know some of the photos are artistic expressions, but is this the place to post these and are they necessary? (Question about editing) "Categories Box"

While I was researching methods for adding categories to pages I came across something on Help:Category that I was hoping someone could clarify. It's the last sentence of the fourth paragraph in section "2 Putting pages in categories", and it states:

"The categories box also provides links to quickly add, remove, or modify category declarations on the page, without having to edit the whole page"

These links/tools sound like they'd be very helpful to editors, but after looking at dozens of pages I just can't seem to locate any examples of them. So my guess is that either: A) I'm looking in the wrong place; B) there's something wrong with my account (or browser) that is preventing the links from being displayed; or C) the links were part of the Categories Box template at one time but have since been removed — and the Help page just hasn't been updated yet to reflect it.

The help page is referring the section at the bottom (usually) of any page that is in a category (including this page, see the Categories below). The help page is, I will admit, misleading, because without enabling the HotCat gadget, you cannot edit categories directly from that box, you can only do so with the article in edit mode.--ukexpat (talk) 16:11, 27 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Trouble editing normal text near foreign-language text

In Taher Saifuddin, I wanted to edit the date information after the foreign-language representation of his name, changing "born on 4th August 1888" to "4 August 1888 – 12 November 1965". When I attempt this, the "4" ends up in front of the foreign characters. I have tried the normal editor, wikED, and AWB, and it always gets corrupted. What gives? After a few months away, I have decided to take another crack at an article submission after it was declined due to inadequate sourcing. I had sources, but the Wikipedia editor said since they came from interviews they were not objective. (Though I did not quote the artist in any of them, only the bio material that was in the stories.) Out of curiosity, I looked up several other contemporaries of my subject on Wikipedia. Without exception, they all used "interviews" of the subject as sources. In some cases, interviews were used only. Did I receive a tougher editor or is there a rule that interviews cannot be used as source material even though these other entries were allowed? I find myself in a situation in which there is plenty of material, but like many human subjects of interest, it is all found in stories that include interviews. Please advise. Thanks. (P.S. I was rusty when I went back into the article and couldn't seem to remember how to insert a new source properly. It is there in the text, but does not show in the draft for some reason.)

The issue isn't that the source is an interview per se - it is in a reliable source - but that the draft needs more references from reliable sources. At the moment the interview is the only secondary source.--ukexpat (talk) 16:32, 27 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Of someone that knew the child your report indicated that he suffer moderate injuries which are not true. He suffer with Major Injuries. He fell 25 feet from the ride. He had a brain injury, a fracture neck, two broken arms, from his waist deep to his feet were broken, he had a crack spleen and also a blood clot and his spinal cord. The idea of this project was first suggested by a fan of Led Zeppelin while Robert was on tour during The Fate Of Nations in January 1994. The Mexico show was the last night and while the audience applauded that, Plant responded negatively having a deep desire to continue performing. He was at the end of his solo run. The fan was staying at the same Hotel as Plant in Mexico City met up with him 3 times. They discussed why the fan had traveled from Maryland USA to the show and Plant expressed interest in his Led Zeppelin necklace the "Hermit" among other things Zeppelin. Over breakfast the day after the show the fan expressed a concern and an idea about Plant's next project. While Plant was at first reluctant about the suggestion he made a promise to the fan. A copy of the handmade Hermit necklace for a phone call to Jimmy. Hands shuck. This call quickly led to the fan hearing on the radio back in the States that Plant and Page were in the studio recording. Ten year later the fan on Father's Day delivered the necklace to Security who delivered it to Plant. Plant wore the necklace that night for the Strange Sensations at the Borgata Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City, N.J. Promises kept by fan and legend! The 2 albums and tours were a great hit to many fans who never saw Zeppelin. [3]

Someone is purposefully sabotaging my wiki page.. this is the second time I have had to correct the changes made. The statements are harmful and derogatory statements.

How can this be monitored and corrected? I would hate to have to remove my page permanently. I value the service and information your organization provides.

It seems to have been fixed already. We get this sort of thing a lot, and it's usually corrected quickly. because you are not providing a reliably published source that can verify the claim; and because the list consists only of those who went on to do something which others felt was worthy of writing about so that they have a Wikipedia article. Redirect page prevents moving an article?

Fourth VP-44 has been expanded and now should be renamed VP-44. However there is a redirect page that redirects VP-44 to Fourth VP-44. Can somebody please do this, or tell me how to do it.
