Collapsing tables

At Orel_Hershiser's_scoreless_innings_streak#August_30.2C_1988, is there a way to collapse the legend with the table so that a single button causes both to hide/show?--TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 04:51, 2 May 2014 (UTC)

Did a bit of experimenting - how's this? What I did was make a table to contain both the play-by-play table and the legend, so both would collapse at the same time. Could be adjusted to move the legend to the left or right side of the play-by-play table, and to have it all collapsed by default. ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 06:48, 2 May 2014 (UTC)

Peter Rees defamatory material

Dear Sir/ Madam,

My name is Peter Rees, I am the creator and for five years was the executive producer of the television series MythBusters. I have been trying to correct defamatory statements on wikipedia that suggest that I was somehow involved in the electrocution of Adam Savage and that led to my departure from the show. This is completely incorrect. Peter Rees (producer)

I have attempted to re-author the page including extensive footnotes. All have been removed by some subsequent author and replaced with the same defamatory facts. On the associated talk page there are other editors who are unknown to me and yet they are recommending that the accusations have no basis. And yet... nothing has been done.

More generally I am also trying to maintain my moral right to be associated with my work. If you read any of the independent references it is clear that I am the sole creator of the show, not Jamie, not Adam, not Beyond Productions or Discovery. What's more it is a matter of record that all of the series ratings records were set while I ran the show. This can not be disputed and deserves a place in the history of the history of the show section on wikipedia.

Here is my version of the page that was deleted. I have kept print outs of the material. I will be forced to take legal action against those who publish this story if it is not corrected. It has already significantly affected my career post mythbusters.

Peter Rees (producer) From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Peter Rees (born 1966)[citation needed] is a film and television writer/ director and producer. He created and developed the concept and was the executive producer of the television series MythBusters.[1] Rees created, cast and executive produced seventy episodes, and twelve specials. During his time as Executive Producer the series set all ratings records for individual episode 1.81 (M25-54), two hour special 2.2 (M25-54) and Shark Week Special. In Australia the show broke the one million viewer mark on SBS Television. The shows ratings steadily declined after his departure and are now 30% of what they once were.[2] Contrary to oblique statements made by Adam Savage[3], and previous posts on Wikipedia, Rees did not leave the show shortly after an incident on set involving electricity. The incident that Adam described happened during the filming of the Baghdad battery story in early 2005.[4] Rees left the series in September 2006, over a year and a half later. Video of the electrocution[5] undermines key aspects of Savage's story specifically; who was responsible for the final decision to shock him with an electric fence, and the claim that the film crew refused to film the aftermath in protest. It also illustrates that Jamie Hyneman had previously tried to electrocute Adam with the same device. This is not the first time that Savage's recall of events have been called into question. In 2008 he was forced to retract statements he made about the shooting of an RFID story for the show.[6] Prior to MythBusters, Peter created, developed, produced, wrote and directed more than 30 hours of factual programming for international broadcast. He has successfully brought a wide range of subjects to the small screen including the ancient practice of intentional cranial deformation and the discovery of the deadly “assassin caterpillar” of Brazil. Peter has worked in a wide variety of genres including: drama, magazine, reality, natural history, observational documentary, and studio based entertainment programming. He spent a decade in the United States including time at National Geographic Television, and Discovery Communications were he served as Senior Series Producer, Executive Producer, and finally East Coast Director of Development for Discovery Channel.[7] Peter circumnavigated the globe by land and sea to win the 1993 Charles Heidsieck international Travel challenge.[8] In 2006 he devised a successful World Record attempt. • While the editor above claims to be Peter Rees, there is no evidence that he actually is Peter Rees, so this needs to be confirmed as he has edited Peter Rees (producer), virtually destroying the article in the process.[1] If he is Peter Rees, then there is a severe COI issue here. --AussieLegend (✉) 07:46, 2 May 2014 (UTC)

It's irrelevant whether the OP is the subject of the article or not. The statement is unsourced and is a serious breach of WP:BLP. I've gone to the rticle and taken it out. The citation was a YouTube account given by the person shocjed of what happened. He doesn't even make an allegation that Rees had to leave the show because of the incident. Even if he had, it wouldn't be enough for WP:BLP. DeCausa (talk) 08:36, 2 May 2014 (UTC)

In practical terms, you may wish to use Bible Gateway, a good and flexible website which offers many translations into English and other languages. But to put them on Facebook, you'll have to link or copy them yourself; and watch out for copyright on the more recent translations. AlexTiefling (talk) 11:41, 2 May 2014 (UTC)

How do I print an article?

Using Windows 8.1 I get the message "this (Wikipedia) app does not support printing".

How can I find out how to print a page or article?

There is a Windows 8 app released by the Wikimedia Foundation that effectively mirrors the mobile site as far as I can see but I can't see a way of printing articles from it. To the original poster, bring up the bottom menu and try opening the article in a web browser. Then you can use the standard print options. CaptRik (talk) 12:10, 2 May 2014 (UTC)

@Kev McDempster - You submitted User:Kev McDempster/sandbox for review when it was still a blank page - thus it was reviewed and declined on 24 April 2014. Since then you have written some content but you have not yet resubmitted it for another round of reviewing. However if you were to submit it in its current state it will be declined again as you have not provided any references at all - see Referencing for beginners for guidance. The language of the draft is also very promotional, you should rewrite the text using the blandest neutral purely descriptive language (see WP:NPOV and include only statements that are fully backed up by proper references. BTW Wikipedia is not in the slightest concerned that the "page will be quite an important reference point for a project they are working on" - an article stands of falls purely on the content of the page itself - external motivations and other issues are irrelevant. I'm not sure why you are attacking me. I did not make the comment. I simply declined the article when it was submitted for review with no content. Please take some time to read the guidelines for notability WP:NOTE specifically WP:NMG for musicians, and referencing WP:REFB. Living individuals require inline citations for claims and statements. Without showing notability, the article will not be accepted. None of the statements have been references, and with a lawsuit being a part of their history that will require careful support. WCIF an article on Catholic studies or Lutheran studies, as opposed Mormon studies?

Wikipedia has an article on Mormon studies, which is an academic discipline that studies the beliefs, practices, history, and culture of Mormonism. I am wondering if there is a mainstream orthodox Trinitarian equivalent to that. Searching "Catholic studies" brings me to a college program, not a page detailing a list of academic institutions that study such things as an academic discipline. Searching "Lutheran studies" brings me no Wikipedia page, but that term is used for a special program at Yale Divinity School. One way to search is by category. Mormon studies belongs to category:Cultural studies and if sister articles for other religions existed I would expect to find them there, or perhaps in category:Study of religion. However, I think you are probably right that these topics do not exist on Wikipedia. You have to remember that Wikipedia is written by volunteers so coverage is not guaranteed to be either comprehensive or consistent. SpinningSpark 18:05, 2 May 2014 (UTC)

Hello,

I have been attempting to edit the page concerning the National Dental Examining Board of Canada. It appears that I am not allowed to do this because I work for the organization; however, the information currently on the page is incomplete, sometimes out of date and often misleading. The information I am attempting to submit is informational and not subjective or an opinion.

I would greatly appreciate assistance with this matter.

If you have a conflict of interest like this, the most appropriate course of action is to propose your changes on the article's talkpage, prefacing your suggestions with the code {{request edit}}. Another editor can then decide whether or not to add the content for you. Bear in mind that you will need to provide third-party, reliable sources for any factual changes. Delete History

If you mean your editing history, you can't. In certain specific cases individual edits can be deleted from the history, but the fact that an edit was made is still visible in the log. Yunshui ^雲_水 14:37, 2 May 2014 (UTC)

Kev, despite Jayron's little joke, the fact is that you are not "making an entry": you are violating our rules about promotion with garbage language like "receiving the kind of critical acclaim hardly seen since the halcyon days of rock", "armed with a stockpile of newly created, classic rock songs", "finely-crafted classic rock songs, rich in melody and dynamics", and "powerful, hook-laden, anthemic classic rock songs" which has no place in an encyclopedia entry, even if you were not an admitted agent of the subjects but merely an overenthusiastic fan. --Orange Mike | Talk 17:26, 2 May 2014 (UTC)

The issue is not in whether or not he was doing so. The issue is in how one approaches an editor who has made 4 edits in their entire life at Wikipedia, doesn't know our jargon or policies, and hasn't been introduced to them. If you want the definition of irony, it's to look at the fact that you, Orangemike, called another person "disruptive" almost within minutes of them arriving here, and you have a large banner at the top of the your user page Wikipedia:WikiProject Editor Retention on the top of your page. So, a new editor shows up, starts a sandbox to try to work on an article, asks for help, and the very FIRST thing you do, within mere minutes of him doing that, is to give him a stern talking to where you DIRECTLY call him "disruptive". How does that retain this editor? What incentive does he have to learn more about Wikipedia and it's rules when you show up and yell at him and call him disruptive? If you are really interested in retention, you should alter your approach towards brand new users. But you won't. Because you've been here years, and you really aren't that interested in being helpful, as evidenced by every interaction you've had with a new editor. Go ahead. Prove me wrong. Jayron, I am helpful to non-promotional newbies, many of whom have thanked me over the years. I am pretty stringent with people who think that advertising copy constitutes encyclopedic content, and I fail to perceive this as a problem. Take another look at the language I quote above, and the advertisement it is taken from. are obviously wrong, it isn't equally obvious to non-regulars. I've attended presentation where consultants are explaining how to use the new medai—Twitter, Facebook, Instagram etc as a way to promote their ideas and products. We both know that Wikipedia should not be in that list, but not everyone realizes it. I know it's hardly the most important subject in the world, but should User:OfficalNTAs really be editing National Television Awards...? To quote one edit summary: "Changes have been made for accuracy by the producer/owner of the National Television Awards (Indigo Television) as some information is outdated or incorrect - please contact info@indigotelevision.co.uk for any future updates." Users editing articles in which they are associated with is strongly discouraged - this is a conflict of interest (COI). I've placed a welcome on the user's talk page letting them know of our COI policy. Their username is also against our username policy as a promotional username. I've also let the user know of this. Kennecott Utah Copper From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Rio Tinto Kennecott, a division of Rio Tinto Group, is a mining, smelting, and refining company. Its corporate headquarters are located in South Jordan, Utah, USA. Kennecott operates the Bingham Canyon Mine, located in Salt Lake County Utah and it is one of the largest open-pit copper mines in the world. The company was first formed in 1898 as the Boston Consolidated Mining Company. The current corporation was formed in 1989. History Kennecott had its start when Enos A. Wall realized the potential of copper deposits in Bingham Canyon, 15 miles (24 km) southwest of Salt Lake City, Utah in 1887 and acquired claims to the land. Underground mining for lead and silver ore in the area began in 1863. Daniel C. Jackling and Robert C. Gemmell, both engineers, examined Wall's properties and recommended open-pit mining. In 1898, Samuel Newhouse and Thomas Weir formed the Boston Consolidated Mining Company. Jackling and Wall formed the Utah Copper Company in 1903, and the company immediately started a pilot mill at Copperton. With financing from Guggenheim Exploration, the first digging began in 1906. The same year, the Kennecott Mines Company was formed in Alaska, named after explorer and naturalist Robert Kennicott. A smelter was also started at Garfield by the American Smelting and Refining Company (ASARCO) in 1905 to refine the Bingham ore. In 1907, the Utah Copper mill in Magna started operation. Utah Copper and Boston Consolidated merged in 1910, and in 1915, Kennecott acquired 25% interest in the company. The Bingham and Garfield Railway opened in 1911 to transport the ore, replacing the Denver and Rio Grande Railroad's line. In 1936, Kennecott acquired all the assets of the Utah Copper Company. During World War II, Bingham set new world records for copper mining and produced about 30% of the copper used by the Allies.[citation needed] Many women worked in the mines, mills, and smelters. On September 9, 1949 three company officers were killed in an airplane bombing known as the Albert Guay Affair in Quebec: the retiring president E.T. Stannard; his designated successor, Arthur D. Storke; and R.J. Parker, a vice-president. Charles Cox, formerly head of Carnegie-Illinois Steel, was hired shortly after to fill the executive vacuum. By 1961, Kennecott's copper mines included four large open pits in the Arizona, New Mexico, and Nevada, and one underground mine in Chile. As the mine in Utah expanded, it subsumed the land on which the town of Bingham was built, and the city ceased to exist in 1971. In 1981, a world-wide fall in copper prices brought about the acquisition of Kennecott by Standard Oil of Ohio (SOHIO). Production was interrupted from 1985 to 1987. In the latter year, British Petroleum acquired SOHIO, and Kennecott became part of BP Minerals America. In 1989 Rio Tinto Zinc (RTZ) purchased mining assets from BP. Kennecott Utah Copper Corporation was formed by Rio Tinto in 1989 as a new mining company under the laws of the State of Utah. Today, as the second largest copper producer in the United States, Kennecott Utah Copper (KUC) provides between 18-25 percent of the U.S.'s copper needs annually.[1] Kennecott’s Bingham Canyon Mine is one of the largest manmade, open pit mines in the world.[] It is one of the top producing copper mines in the world with cumulative production at more than 19 million tons of copper.[2] In 2011, Kennecott produced approximately 237,000 tons of copper, along with 379,000 troy ounces of gold, 3.2 million troy ounces of silver, about 30 million pounds of molybdenum, and about 1 million tons of sulfuric acid, a by-product of the smelting process.[3] Since Rio Tinto purchased Kennecott Utah Copper as a wholly owned subsidiary in 1989, it has invested about $2 billion in the modernization of KUC’s operations. KUC has also spent more than $350 million on the cleanup of historic mining waste and $100 million on groundwater cleanup. Rio Tinto employs 2,400 people and hundreds of contractors in Utah. Rio Tinto Group, one of the world's largest mining operations, comprises dual-listed companies Rio Tinto Limited (based in Melbourne) and Rio Tinto plc (based in London). Although each company trades separately, the two Rio Tintos operate as one business. Environmental relations Significant groundwater contamination exists in the aquifer down gradient of the historic Bingham Canyon mining operations. Approximately 80 square miles (210 km2) are impacted in the southwest portion of Salt Lake County. Because of the remediation efforts, which include more than a $100 million investment and includes a reverse osmosis facility, Kennecott's South End (location of the contaminated aquifer) was removed from the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) proposed National Priorities List (NPL). In August 2012, Kennecott fulfilled its obligation to remediate water contamination from historic mining operations in a settlement with the EPA, the state of Utah, Jordan Valley Water Conservancy District (JVWCD) and other agencies. As part of the settlement agreement, Kennecott paid for two water treatment plants in southwestern Salt Lake Valley. The first plant, operated by Kennecottand completed in 2006, provides water for more than 3,500 homes. The second water facility, owned and operated by the JVWCD, was completed in July 2013. This investment represents one of many remediation projects along the Oquirrh Mountains to clean up contaminants from historic mining operations. To date, Kennecott Utah Copper has remediated more than 10,000 acres (40 km2) of the total 40,000 acres (160 km2) impacted by mining at a cost of more than $450 million.[citation needed] According to data from the Utah Division of Air Quality (DEQ), Kennecott contributes 3.5 percent of the total annual emissions along the Wasatch Front each year. Inversions are generally typically occur due to the geographical location of the Wasatch Mountains and high air pressure that creates a winter inversion by trapping cooler air in the valley and preventing air flow through the valley. Kennecott has created a number of air quality reduction programs to minimize its impact on Utah’s air quality. This includes vehicle idling reduction programs, combined heat and power plants, LEED certified buildings and utilizing renewable energy, such as solar generation. KUC is considering possible alternatives that will keep the Bingham Canyon Mine open for another couple of decades. The open pit operations are projected to extend to 2030. Land development Another Rio Tinto-owned company manages the non-mining land and water assets previously owned by KUC, Kennecott Land Company. Kennecott Land was established by Rio Tinto in April 2001 to develop surplus mining land. Daybreak Community, the first part of the process, is situated on 4,126 acres (16.70 km2) in the city of South Jordan where 20,000 homes and up to 14,000,000 square feet (1,300,000 m2) of commercial space are planned. Opened in 2009, Daybreak's first commercial center, SoDa row, contains a boutique, restaurants, hair salon and more.

Kristen Stewart Charity Work

I tried to edit Kristen's wikipedia page to include her various charity work but I received a message that it was protected and I couldnt edit. Here is the message plus the sources.

Kristen Stewart- Charity work. In November 2009 actress Kristen Stewart particated in a JDRF walk to cure diabetis. Kristen Stewart has participated in several charities which include her donations to shoe revolt in aid of the fight against domestic sex trafficking. Kristen Stewart has donated her vans to gain money for the charity that relies on selling donated shoes to raise the funds. She has also supported Oxfam and redcross in her philanthropist ways. She is also involved in the 'gewa project' which is a charity that raises money for rural Tibey. On December 12 2012, she appeared in the 12-12-12 concert at Madison Square garden on a pledge to fans and well wishers to join in the donations towards the victims of hurricane Sandy. In the same charity she also donated her Zuhair Murad dress which she wore to the last Twilight premeire for the cause. The glamorous gown was put up gor auction by the robin hood foundation and the money received assisted the victims. Kristen Stewart was also able to raise $500,000 for charity to assist the hurricane Sandy relief efforts, through a 15 minutes meeting with a middle Eastern prince. She is also hoping to open a half-way house for sex workers.
