template parameter question

edit

Does anyone know why the closing reason parameter on the Closed rfc top/Rfc top template might not display? I'm trying to close and RfC and I can get the template to display the: "The following discussion is closed...." message and the box around the discussion but everything I put between the pipe character and the braces closing the template is invisible on preview. I'm fairly stumped, here. Thanks. Eggishorn (talk) (contrib) 01:06, 6 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Eggishorn: Does your "reason" include an equals sign anywhere, perhaps inside a URL? If so then the syntax has to be {{Rfc top|1=your reason here}} with an extra "1=". -- John of Reading (talk) 05:22, 6 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, that must be it! Thanks, I didn't notice that before, but including the long form for a link with a diff means that part of the text says "oldid=" That equal sign did exactly what you're saying. Thanks again. Eggishorn (talk) (contrib) 14:47, 6 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Forgot email address and password

edit

Greetings! Hope you will be having a good day. After a long time that I got back to my wikipedia profile. But, I only remember my username but not the linked email or password. But I can vaguely remember a few words of password. I want to get redirected to it. Any way out? Cheers LauralauraS (talk) 05:33, 6 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Go to Special:PasswordReset. You can enter either your username or your email. If you are certain of your email, but not your username, only enter your email. The system will send a temporary password to your saved email address that will allow you to retrieve your account. You can change the password after you log in.--Shantavira|feed me 08:31, 6 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

publishing my German article in English doesn't work

edit

We would like to publish the article https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deutsch-Tschechische_Industrie-_und_Handelskammer in English, as we did in Czech before. But there seems to be a problem with the English translation tool. When clicking the "publish translation" button, after typing in the secure word, this message keeps showing up: "Translate page - Note: This utility is currently restricted to extended confirmed editors on the English Wikipedia, see WP:CXT for more information." Furthermore, this message is shown: "An error occurred while publishing the translation. Please try to publish the page again. Error: Hit AbuseFilter: Content Translation Edits

". We did not have this problem with the last translation. We understand that the quality of articles has to be ensured, however we do not understand why we cannot publish it at all. We translated the article by ourselves.

Thank you for your help and your fast reply! AHKTschechien (talk) 08:39, 6 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

You need at least 500 edits on the English Wikipedia to do this. You have only 4. Please see WP:CXT.--Shantavira|feed me 10:40, 6 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, AHKTschechien,
your username and your user page, and also the fact you use 'we' when talking about your actions and experience indicate a serious problem with your account. And it is much more important than the trouble with translation tool. PLEASE see the Wikipedia:Username policy ASAP, esp. the WP:ORGNAME section. --CiaPan (talk) 10:50, 6 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Remove unwanted redirect - actual article name does not appear in a search

edit

I've searched help pages about redirects, etc. but need help. When typing in a search for the page "Sheryl Nields (photographer)", it redirects to Nields. I could list it under the "Nields (surname)" and could still do so, but the article is too challenging for anyone to find. It doesn't show up as an available page choice. Any advice, explanation or an actual correction would be wonderful. Much appreciation.Marcomgirl (talk) 09:12, 6 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Marcomgirl. I'm not sure what the problem is that you are talking about. But I have moved "Sheryl Nields (photographer)" to Sheryl Nields. We do not put explanatory terms in parenthesis in article titles unless it is required to distinguish other subjects with the same name. Shery Nields (photographer) still exists as a redirect to the new location (at the time of writing) but I have requested it be deleted. --ColinFine (talk) 10:29, 6 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Editing ?Headline problem and Seeing article listed.

edit

Hello: I have penned a small item entitled "The Confederation". It also has sub titles. Firstly how do i edit the headline? i ask becuase I need the headline to be noticed but it is not listed anywhere on your system. Also I cannot locate the article when I input "The Confederation" in your search engine. Kindly advise me. U/N Selous Guide. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Selous Guide (talkcontribs) 13:17, 6 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Selous Guide, no article of that exact name has ever existed, and your contributions are just three minor edits to an existing article. Jimfbleak - talk to me? 13:45, 6 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Selous Guide: The only edits by your account here at the normal English Wikipedia is this question and [1] which didn't make sense and was reverted. At the Simple English Wikipedia, a separate wiki we don't link to in article text here, you created simple:The Confederation. They are not included in searches here. I don't know their policies but here it would be completely unsuitable as an article (probably also there). Based on Google searches the subject was made up recently and lacks reliable sources to satisfy Wikipedia:Notability. Suggested articles can be submitted at Wikipedia:Articles for creation but it currently sounds impossible to make a suitable article about The Confederation. YO! Sushi Wikipedia edits

edit

I work for YO! Sushi under name Yosushiwiki and I'm trying to make relevant changes to our Wikipedia page. However user DrChrisWilliams keeps undoing our changes with bot ClueBot NG. Please advise how I can get my changes back (I have already tried to report this).

Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Yosushiwiki (talkcontribs) 14:09, 6 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, please read the Wikipedia guidelines about editing and conflicts of interest here, including disclosure rules, the policy on paid editing, and also I recommend that you read the Wikipedia username policy on corporate / promotional / organizational names found here, as this should explain why your edits keep getting reverted by ClueBot NG. RegistryKey(RegEdit) 14:24, 6 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
... and please note that the article is definitely not "your Wikipedia page", even if it is an article about your company. If you wish to make changes, please register an individual account, disclose your conflict of interest and paid editing status, then suggest the changes you wish to make on the talk page of the article. Draft Approval

edit

Hi, I have a Draft article that was re-written as requested, but I can't see a way to submit it for approval, or anything obvious like that to progress it (its for a client)

Thank you!!

I have added a template which gives you a submit button, but it isn't fit to be submitted yet. You need to read the advice at WP:Your first article, and also read WP:COI and make the declaration as required at WP:PAID. --David Biddulph (talk) 16:05, 6 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Unfair deletion

edit

Hello, I was a respected user of Wikipedia and today I feel ashamed of the jokers behind it!! My client Satheesh Menon (Actor) was deleted stating the references were wrong? If that guys know English ask him to search in google if my client is not a notable actor in Kerala or ask the Malayalam movie industry including president of AMMA (Association of Malayalam Movie Association). — Preceding unsigned comment added by 148.252.128.229 (talk) 14:45, 6 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

See Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Satheesh Menon. --David Biddulph (talk) 15:58, 6 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, anonymous editor. It appears that you have been trying to create a Wikipedia article without understanding the policies and principle by which Wikipedia words (such as "no promotion", and "notability" - in its special Wikipedia sense): many people make that error, and we usually point them at the essay your first article. I do not know whether you were respected or not, but referring to conscientious editors who do understand those policies as "jokers" does not incline me to respect you. Nor does taking money (as implied by your word "client") to perform a job which it appears you do not at present have the necessary knowledge and skills to carry out. --ColinFine (talk) 21:43, 6 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Questia

edit

While attempting to fix a dead link, I found it archived on Questia. However, only an excerpt is available without a subscription. How should this be handled? — 2606:A000:4C0C:E200:A0A5:6CF:D9C3:3FD3 (talk) 16:09, 6 June 2017 (UTC) [reply]

  • Re: ""Home by a Neck; a Giraffe's Epic Journey from Cairo to Paris" by Poisson, Georges - UNESCO Courier, March 1986 | Online Research Library: Questia". www.questia.com.
  • Hello, a few quick helpful links that you could read for understanding what to do are: WP:INDICATEAVAIL, WP:SOURCELINKS AND WP:PAYWALL. In summary, while there's a need to only cite the actual source (the book that you may be referring to), the fact that the same is accessible only beyond a paywall is no limitation to citing the book. If something is not clear, feel free to ask again. Thanks. Lourdes 02:09, 7 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
