Languages list - "Simple English"

I turned on the "compact list" preference option for the "Languages" list in left sidebar. It worked as I thought it would, except that I can't get to the "Simple English" wiki article. Clicking on the "99 more" box doesn't list it (even though an equiv article exists), and search under that box won't return it. Is this a software defect? Template:Authority control is invisible

{{Authority control}} is invisible at Estrid Svendsdatter. Any idea what's wrong? Just about everything at Special:Recentchangeslinked (ignoring pages that merely link to it) is edits to pages that merely link to it, edits to its talk page, or sandbox edits; the only exception is this edit that apparently just changed the label for WorldCat, and the template itself hasn't been edited in more than a year. The template's still visible at Ayn Rand, Allan Dwan, and Agricultural science (I didn't check any other pages), so nothing has broken the whole template; apparently something's just different with this article. I understand the concept of authority control, but I don't understand how this specific template works, so I don't know how to fix it. Nyttend (talk) 03:22, 29 December 2018 (UTC)

Right. Template:Authority control#Description says: "If there is no information in Wikidata for the specific subject, an empty instance of this template will be dormant, meaning it will be invisible on the rendered page." I don't see any overlap between the fields at Template:Authority control#Usage and wikidata:Q2981947#identifiers so it's supposed to be empty. PrimeHunter (talk) 11:14, 29 December 2018 (UTC)

im trying to fix the wikipedia article im working on. it reads User: Alicia Grimes. Im trying to just name the article Alicia Grimes. what can i do? i want to delete the User: and only name the article Alicia Grimes. can you all help in fixing this problem

Hi Gaurav. If you are working as an agency, then you have a Wikipedia:Conflict of interest and probably need to declare your WP:Paid status. It would be best if you suggest the required updates on the talk page of the article, providing appropriate references, and allow an uninvolved editor to make the changes. Infobox location map does not show up

Greetings, does someone know why Chapiquiña power plant does not show its location map? Trying to remove the current image did not help in preview. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 11:12, 29 December 2018 (UTC)

Jo-Jo Eumerus, I think that this has something to do with the way that Template:Infobox power station is set up to use coordinates from Wikidata in generating a location map. (I've checked a few of the articles using this infobox, and they all seem to have those damn Wikidata-dependent location maps rather than the location maps specified in the infoboxes. See Drax power station [and its edit window] for an example.) Since the Chapiquiña power plant has no Wikidata item, the infobox is apparently ignoring whatever is entered in the infobox location-map field. This seems to me a bad way to go about things and is certainly not reflected in the infobox's documentation. You might try asking for help at Template talk:Infobox power station, but who knows if the Wikidata fanatics will even be willing to change the template to allow hand-specified location maps to appear in accordance with what the documentation says. I'm certainly not handy enough with template coding to try fixing the infobox myself. Deor (talk) 21:25, 29 December 2018 (UTC)

Hello Jo-Jo Eumerus, Deor, MB. It may be a coding error; it should only fetch the wikidata value if the local data is missing (i.e. use the local data if available). Let me have a look. P.s. Safran Seats

As indicated in the references shown on the talk page move discussion in December 2018, Zodiac Seats unequivocally officially changed its name to Safran Seats. Due almost solely to limited participation, the move discussion resulted in "No Consensus". Do I have any recourse to get the name changed, such as WP:BLPN? A Wikipedia article should be named according to what its subject is usually called. A simple way to assess this is to check what it's called by the sources cited in the article. I checked this for the six sources cited in Zodiac Seats U.S., and found

  "Zodiac"   0 mentions
  "Safran"   0 mentions

This suggests that the article may be a candidate for deletion. Maproom (talk) 18:55, 29 December 2018 (UTC)

Jax 0677: I generally ping someone I reply to at the Teahouse, as it's intended mainly for new users. But here at the Help desk, I assume that someone posting a question will know how to check for responses.

I don't doubt that Zodiac Seats has been officially renamed to Safran seats. But it's not the official name that matters. What matters to Wikipedia is what name is usually used by published sources. For instance, there's an article whose title is United Kingdom, not the rather long official name of that country. Maproom (talk) 18:21, 1 January 2019 (UTC)

@Eapvisuals: Please review the conflict of interest policy and the paid editing policy, and make the appropriate declarations on your user page. You are permitted to go to the article talk page(Talk:Lilia Maraviglia) and make a formal edit request(click that link for more information) for changes to the article that you would like.

If your username is that of an agency or other organization, you will need to change it to something that indicates an individual is using the account. You may do this using one of the two methods described at WP:CHU. 331dot (talk) 15:02, 29 December 2018 (UTC)

@Eapvisuals: To put that a little differently, some websites allow the subject of a page (or their representatives) to have preferred control of a page about them. Wikipedia takes the opposite point of view: Here the subject of an article (and their representatives) are strongly discouraged (though not forbidden) from editing the article. The article Lilia Maraviglia is not "her profile" but Wikipedia's encyclopedic biography about her. —teb728 t c 06:12, 30 December 2018 (UTC)

Confirming my email address

Apologies if this is not the appropriate place for this query. A couple of months ago I changed my password. No problems, but I was asked to reconfirm my email. No matter how many times I click "Mail a confirmation code", no confirmation email is received.

I have just changed my password again, and then "changed" my email - to the same address. No emails have been received. I have checked my junk and spam folders, and I am not blocking Wikipedia. Any ideas?

If you have a gmail email address, check in the tab called "promotions" too. The best way to locate the email would be to click on the link in the left side menu bar titled "All emails" and check thereon. Lourdes 05:23, 30 December 2018 (UTC)

Special:ChangeContentModel

What is the point of this page? I just ran across it at Special:SpecialPages, and I tested it at user:nyttend/sandbox. I understand that it replaced wikitext with plaintext (see sandbox before and after the change), but I don't understand: why would you want to change a page type in this manner? Have you ever wondered why ".js" and ".css" pages look different, even when having the same content as a normal wikipage? These are two example content models, enabled by default for .js and .css files. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 21:30, 29 December 2018 (UTC)
