Correcting birthdate

@Dennis Vine: To add a new image, first acquire an image to which you own the copyright. The copyright of an image belongs to the photographer until the photographer explicitly conveys it in writing, so the best way to do this is to take a selfie. Connected templates

In the article stub about Cytherellidae the template says it belongs to the order Platycopida, which is correct. And the template in the article stub about Punciidae says that too belongs to the order Platycopida, which is wrong. It belongs to the order Palaeocopida. But when I change the info in the template to correct it, the template describing Cytherellidae changes too, from Platycopida to Palaeocopida. And vice versa. The two templates are connected, so when you edit it in one of the mentioned articles, the same thing happens in the other. Is there a way to separate the templates? The taxoboxes used in the two articles are automatically populated from Wikidata. I suspect that this means that there is an error in the wikidata items, though I confess I can't see what. d:Q11847357, the Wikidata entry for Punciidae, says its parent taxon is Punciodiea, not Platycopida, so I don't know where the wrong information is coming from.

What is the link of Wiki translation AI in English version?

Filesize calculation template

Does anyone know if a template for converting data filesize formats exist?

I.E.: a template like {{convert}} that could convert a filesize like 2000 bytes into 2.000 kilobytes; so on and so forth.

I guess I could technically convert a filesize string into an exponentiation representation using {{val}}.

• Syntax: {{val|2000|e=3}}
• Output: 2000×10³ (This would equate to 2 megabytes or 2,000,000 bytes)

@Michael D. Turnbull: File sizes are a mess, because they are sometimes in actual decimal powers and sometimes in "binary" powers (see Byte#Multiple-byte_units. Is this what you are referring to? About a year ago, bits and bytes were added to the {{Convert}} template, but after this discussion a few months ago they were removed because of several possibilities for confusion. Perhaps @Johnuniq can comment further. CodeTalker (talk) 01:55, 20 August 2023 (UTC)

As shown in the discussion linked by CodeTalker above, it was felt that a conversion for bits/bytes would not be satisfactory due to the confusion over kilo being 1000 or 1024 and the lack of a need. In some historical contexts probably covered in articles, a byte was not 8 bits. If there were a need for a file size conversion, I would recommend asking for a dedicated template perhaps at Wikipedia:Requested templates. Johnuniq (talk) 04:06, 20 August 2023 (UTC)

In the Wikipedia article, I saw an image with a bot and the Arabic language was being translated. The image is in the paragraph naming "Automatic editing" included in the category "Operation". I truly want to upload a new, stable version of it (make the content in English). @GreatPersonLikeMe That image is in an article about Wikipedia at Wikipedia#Automated editing. The file itself is stored on Commons at the this link: File:Wiki translation Screenshot_۲۰۲۳۰۶۱۵-۲۰۵۹۲۳_Brave.jpg. I'm not sure why you would want to upload a new version but that is best done on Commons, perhaps after consulting with the editor who uploaded the original. Where to move an article?

As an IP I can't do the move myself but I'm not sure where it would go in the first place. A couple of days ago I discovered an ELEVEN YEAR old article with the ABSURD title Violet Cripps, Baroness Parmoor (a title the subject never was known by or entitled to)...I don't know if it might be a "copyright trap" or something.

To recap:

• The lady in question (1891-1983) was born Violet Nelson.
• in her first marriage she was Mrs. Rowley.
• in her second (her basic claim to notability...the wife of an extraordinarily rich/famous/prominent man) she was The Duchess of Westminster as second wife of the 2nd Duke of Westminster ("Bend Or") from 1920 to 1926.(This was the only time in her life she was "a peeress" as identified in the lede).
• Divorce made her Violet, Duchess of Westminster....retaining the surname Grosvenor.
• In 1927 she remarried The Hon. Frederick Heyworth Cripps DSO and thus became The Hon. Mrs. Frederick Cripps.
• In 1951 she divorced and never married again though I have dim memories of a Debrett's Peerage from her last years including her on a list of former wives of former Dukes as her former style of "Violet, Duchess of Westminster" despite there being a later Duchess named Viola.
• In March 1977 the man she had divorced over a quarter-century before succeeded his 94-year-old brother as 3rd Baron Parmoor and he then died that October and was succeeded by their son Milo.
• Neither of these successions should have changed the ex-wife's title...Marjorie Pratt, Countess of Brecknock (1900-1989) divorced the then courtesy Earl of Brecknock in 1941 and remained Marjorie Countess of Brecknock for the rest of her life(that is how she was in Who's Who, that is how she is remembered) without her ex-husband's becoming Marquess Camden in 1943 or their son's succeeding him in 1983 making her Marchioness Camden.

So...the article title is wrong. But should it simply lose "Baroness Parmoor" (with the repetitions of "Lady Parmoor" in the text dropped as well) and be "Violet Cripps", or change to the more prominent past title where you get Google hits on her, or what? 108.29.145.226 (talk) 15:11, 19 August 2023 (UTC)

IP editor. If you can back up your bullet points with citations to reliable published sources, please go ahead and edit the article: currently it is in a very poor state. Note that we generally abide by Wikipedia:Common names whereby an article is titled with the name the subject is now most widely known by/referred to, even if it's not accurate. For example, most people refer to Ada Lovelace and so we title her article thus, even though that was never her actual name. Typing a password

Please enable us to see what user name we are typing and what password we are typing, in case we inadvertently make a mistake. I got a new computer and had to pay an expert quite a lot of money on the next day, to clear my password information back to Factory Settings, 100 per cent because I could not check what I had typed in. @Vikingicemaiden On websites where there is no facility to view your password, the easiest thing to do if you are in doubt is to use a simple text editor to create the correct password in visible text and then copy/paste it into the password box. Wiki citations

Hi. I've only recently come across this problem while editing articles - some citations don't appear in order, for example: there will be a reference marked as [5] but the one that comes after might be [16]. It's a small thing but I'd like to know how to fix that, so I can make them all appear in chronological order.

This may not be an error- it is possible to format references so that an early one can be used later in the article, it will have the same number as its first appearance in the article. 331dot (talk) 18:38, 19 August 2023 (UTC)

@Usernameisoccupiedtoo It is the software that numbers and renumbers the references, not editors. References are always numbered from top to bottom through the text of the article BUT an early reference (say #5 from the top) may be re-used again later using named references. Hence the #5 could appear later close to #16. There is nothing for you to "fix". Mike Turnbull (talk) 18:47, 19 August 2023 (UTC)
