same picture on multiple articles

hi everyone I currently need help with an article (2024 Bank of America Roval 400) but it got a new track layout, how would I be able to add a picture (im sure if i was to make an accurate picture of the track layout i could list it as my own work) to make it go on multiple articles without my account at risk of termination or something like that. 45BearsFan (talk) 00:09, 7 October 2024 (UTC)

Be sure you understand WP:NFF, the criteria for fair-use files. I'm not sure if the track layout for a motorsport event is eligible for public domain / creation of an "own work" piece, so I'm hoping someone more familiar with the matter will chime in.
Non-free files must have a separate and reliable rationale for every single page they appear on. However, images uploaded to Wikimedia Commons don't and can be used on any article, assuming it's appropriate to include them. GeorgeMemulous (talk) 00:41, 7 October 2024 (UTC)

@GeorgeMemulous: I believe you meant to link to WP:NFC above, but linked to WP:NFF instead. -- Marchjuly (talk) 02:37, 7 October 2024 (UTC)
So, since I found a picture of the new layout do I just upload it to commons? 45BearsFan (talk) 16:43, 10 October 2024 (UTC)
@45BearsFan: Please take a look at c:COM:Own work for reference because "own work" has a specific meaning when used in terms of images and image copyright. You also might want to as about this at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject NASCAR or Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Motorsport since most likely track layout images appear in other auto racing related articles; for example, like the ones used in Indianapolis 500, Daytona 500 and British Grand Prix. I don't think the layout of a racing track is something that in and off itself is eligible for copyright protection, but drawings and other visual representations of a track created by others probably are. So, for reference, you can't really take someone else's work and claim it as your own, and you can't really create a slavish reproduction (e.g. a tracing) of someone else's work and claim it as your own. The members of one of the WikiProjects related to auto racing should know the best way to go about doing this. -- Marchjuly (talk) 02:37, 7 October 2024 (UTC)
45BearsFan, there is an editor {u:Will Pittenger}, active both here and on Commons, who specializes in racetrack layout diagrams. Cullen328 (talk) 23:16, 7 October 2024 (UTC)
Fixed link syntax and notification to Will Pittenger -- John of Reading (talk) 07:05, 8 October 2024 (UTC)
I haven't done that in years. After Commons users started deleting my images or making changes without discussing them with me, I started uploading only to my site. Then I started to run out of tracks I was interested in. These days, I'm busy working on programming tasks. My current project is Replacement Project. User talk templates for CT/AI ECR enforcement

Can someone point me towards templates to put on non-EC users' talk pages when enforcing the extended confirmed restriction on contentious topic pages? Cheers! GeorgeMemulous (talk) 01:39, 7 October 2024 (UTC)

Hi GeorgeMemulous. I believe the templates {{Contentious topics/alert}} and {{Contentious topics/alert/first}} can be used for general notification purposes, and {{uw-1rr}} can be used for WP:1RR notification purposes. However, I only think administrators can enforce these restrictions in a technical sense. -- Marchjuly (talk) 02:18, 7 October 2024 (UTC)

OpenStreetMap is not a Wikimedia Foundation project. https://www.openstreetmap.org/about - Cabayi (talk) 10:17, 7 October 2024 (UTC)
To be absolutely clear, ACFrancisca, Wikipedia editors have nothing to do with OpenStreetMap. This is like going to the Apple store to complain about your problem with an Android phone. Cullen328 (talk) 10:22, 7 October 2024 (UTC)

Our Panjāb's userpage

When I click on User:Our Panjāb, it goes to the main page. I could've sworn when I did this earlier today, it went to the user's userpage. Regardless of whether my memory is right, it shouldn't go the main page. User talk:Our Panjāb is fine.--Bbb23 (talk) 13:42, 7 October 2024 (UTC)

The page was redirected by the user on 4 October. I've removed it. Pickersgill-Cunliffe (talk) 13:56, 7 October 2024 (UTC)
I should've seen that - thanks.--Bbb23 (talk) 13:58, 7 October 2024 (UTC)

How can I donate to you? I use your site to help me with my books and use pictures. I've donated before but couldn't find how to again/ Redmanleo (talk) 14:48, 7 October 2024 (UTC)

Under the main menu should be a "donate" link, but I'll put it here too, donate.wikimedia.org. 331dot (talk) 14:56, 7 October 2024 (UTC)

Problems moving an article due to a redirect

I have written an article about the US Army in WW II but unfortunately there is already an article named United States Army in World War II which is about a historical work and a redirect named United States Army during World War II to Military history of the United States during World War II So I have no idea what to do... Mr.Lovecraft (talk) 15:04, 7 October 2024 (UTC)

Mr.Lovecraft you could request a move to United States Army during World War II at Wikipedia:Requested moves/Technical requests, or an admin or page mover may respond here. TSventon (talk) 15:57, 7 October 2024 (UTC)
I already made a Technical request but they just removed it to my user page. By the way what is a page mover ? Mr.Lovecraft (talk) 16:18, 7 October 2024 (UTC)
Hello, Mr Lovecraft. A page mover is somebody who has a particular right that lets them do page moves out of the ordinary, such as moving over an existing redirect, or moving without leaving a redirect. See WP:Page mover. ColinFine (talk) 16:50, 7 October 2024 (UTC)
And how can I ask somebody to move my page ? I am not familiar with these internal wikipedia procedures. Mr.Lovecraft (talk) 16:59, 7 October 2024 (UTC)
You asked to move the draft to United States Army in World War II here and that was rejected because that article already exists. You may be able to move the article to United States Army during World War II yourself or do another TR explaining the previous one was a mistake. TSventon (talk) 17:06, 7 October 2024 (UTC)
@Mr.Lovecraft, what you first need to do is move the article that is in the way, to a title like United States Army in World War II (historical work). That will leave behind a redirect that you can then move your own article on top of - but don't do that yet. First, you need to go here [1], to see all of the incoming links, and make sure that they link directly to United States Army in World War II (historical work) instead. Otherwise, people expecting to follow a link to the book series will end up at your article and be confused. Once that's all sorted out, you can move your article to United States Army in World War II. Make sure you add a WP:HATNOTE that links the two pages. -- asilvering (talk) 18:17, 7 October 2024 (UTC)
@Asilvering Somehow it didn´t work. I moved the United States Army in World War II to United States Army in World War II (historical work) I also linked all incoming links to it and I add a hatnote at my article. Then I renamed the (disambiguation) page to United States Army in World War II (historical work) (disambiguation). However, the hatnote in my article page it did not changed it still says For other uses, see Mr.Lovecraft/Construction site beta (disambiguation). Moreover I still can´t move my article to United States Army in World War II because there is still a redirect to United States Army in World War II which is in fact the above mentioned article United States Army in World War II (historical work) Mr.Lovecraft (talk) 09:27, 8 October 2024 (UTC)
The incoming links haven't been fixed yet. See [2] - they're all still there. They need to link to United States Army in World War II (historical work). Do that before you request the move. Then the hatnote is the last step, after you've done everything else. In any case, @Marchjuly's suggestion to ask WT:MILHIST to make sure you're not making a content fork is a good one (though I did check before I wrote my initial reply, and didn't find anything promising). -- asilvering (talk) 15:24, 8 October 2024 (UTC)
@Mr.Lovecraft: The subject you want to write about seems to already be fairly extensively covered on Wikipedia. This doesn't mean new articles about it can't be created, but there's a good chance that much of the content in your "draft" is already covered in some shape of form in existing articles about the US Army, World War II or both. For this reason, you might want to discuss what you're trying to do at WT:MILHIST to make sure you're not creating a unneeded WP:CONTENTFORK (i.e. a redundant article) and see whether it might be better to incorporate your content into already existing articles instead of creating a new stand-alone article. At the same time, if it turns out that an article like the one would be considered a good thing to create, the members of the MILHIST WikiProject will almost surely be able to help your sort out the naming and any other issues you might find yourself having. -- Marchjuly (talk) 21:26, 7 October 2024 (UTC)
@Mr.Lovecraft and Marchjuly: I think that at least the title of United States Army in World War II, with an attempted redirect now from Mr.Lovecraft's draft page is misleading. It would be more accurate to add the words "Organization of the" to the title if it is to be retained in its current form and not distract readers from finding the comprehensive article on Military history of the United States during World War II. Much of the article is covered elsewhere but I think a change of title would help avoid confusion and could help justify a separate article. The attempted redirect does not work for me if the new title is typed in the search box. That's probablly still a result of the duplicate title. Donner60 (talk) 00:46, 10 October 2024 (UTC)
@Donner60@Marchjuly The problem is already solved. Due to the help of the Wikipedia:Requested moves/Technical requests I was able to move my article to United States Army during World War II Mr.Lovecraft (talk) 09:31, 10 October 2024 (UTC)

Quick question

when editing the firs paragraph, when i search up the page on my browser, it doesnt show the version including what i edited on the preview thingy, but, one user, he edited the first line of a page, and in a few weeks, when i search up the page, his edited version shows up on the preview. How do you get it on there? 148.252.144.186 (talk) 18:14, 7 October 2024 (UTC)

Like when you search up a page on your browser and a bit of the first paragraph shows up 148.252.144.186 (talk) 18:15, 7 October 2024 (UTC)
If you are talking about a google summary, that is not controlled by en.wiki, but by google. CMD (talk) 18:16, 7 October 2024 (UTC)
i have an idea. Search up St Neots on your internet browser. It says Eynesbury,Eaton Ford and Eaton Socon form part of the town. But, when you actually click on the article, it misses out recently edited stuff like loves farm, wintringham, and eynesbury hardwicke. 148.252.144.186 (talk) 18:23, 7 October 2024 (UTC)
If you refer to Wikipedia's page preview feature when you hover over a link like St Neots without clicking it then I currently see: "The areas of Eynesbury, Eaton Ford, Eaton Socon, Love's Farm, Wintringham, and part of Eynesbury Hardwicke form part of the town." That's the same as the article says. However, it may have displayed differently earlier. mw:Page Previews#FAQ says: "The Page Preview shows a cached version of a page. If the page has been edited and you want Page Previews to show the new version right away, you can purge the page." PrimeHunter (talk) 19:49, 7 October 2024 (UTC)
Search engines are often slow to update their caches of Wikipedia leads. Nothing we can do about that. -- Maddy from Celeste (WAVEDASH) 00:31, 8 October 2024 (UTC)

Source question for hybrid quantum computing

Hi,

I am working on an article on hybrid quantum computing. I want to know if blog posts/explanations of hybrid quantum computing pass muster as a source for Wikipedia. Examples would be this post: https://www.qm-ware.com/blog/hybrid-quantum-computing/what-is-hybrid-quantum-computing/

Thank you,

Andrew Pourinski Apourinski (talk) 18:41, 7 October 2024 (UTC)

The short answer is "probably not". The longer answer is at WP:BLOG. Just Step Sideways from this world ..... today 21:56, 7 October 2024 (UTC)
@Apourinski That particular blog has no stated author, so it doesn't fall into the category where the blog might be allowed as being from a subject-matter expert. On the other hand, this particular blog is unusual in that it quotes academic source articles, some of which you may find useful in themselves. Mike Turnbull (talk) 11:00, 9 October 2024 (UTC)
