Wikipedia:WikiProject Biography/Living People Patrol/Proposal
Hello,
The following is a proposal that I would like to set forth.
Based on phone calls to the office and OTRS, it seems to me that one of our biggest problems remains Living People. This has several sides to it:
- People who have nonsense added to their articles.
- People who have articles but shouldn't.
- People who want their articles deleted.
- People insisting that we create articles about them.
- PR agencies adding crud to articles about their clients.
- Other.
RC Patrol is doing a phenomenal job, but the fact is that the task is overwhelming. We are getting close to 2 edits a second, i.e., over 100 edits a minute, and we are still growing. While it is possible to remove the obvious crap, more subtle problems may be sneaking in.
I would therefore like to suggest a separate division of the RC Patrol called The Living People Patrol. They would be charged with tagging new articles in Recent Changes with Living People when appropriate (and removing people when dead), and for reviewing the Living People category specifically here.
Obviously, this is only a suggestion. I would like to know what people think.

editDanny,
That looks like a good idea to me. I keep a close eye on the deaths so I could certainly help out there. Capitalistroadster 01:49, 22 July 2006 (UTC)
- Agree we need to try something different that puts more focus on BLP. Amorrow's recent editing spree shows me that we are not watching BLP closely. Especially embarrassing that Amorrow started an Afd on Florence Nibart-Devouard, [1] that went almost a full day until detected. He rewrote Jimmy Wales and Angela Beesley, and started an article on Foundation board member Micheal Davis. He made many other changes to a variety of articles in the category BLP. IMO, this proposal should help. FloNight talk 02:15, 22 July 2006 (UTC)
- You guys are calling for verification. The call for input here is for comment on a suggested measure against the crap heave at live people - which is a lot like verification. How will you reward the drudges that do the work? How will you punish the capable who refuse to do the drudgery? I feel that if you will neither reward nor punish nothing much will happen, other than emergency damage control - until that fails. 209.6.189.247 23:42, 23 July 2006 (UTC)
