editTo Nyttend: I am now preparing to submit "Batch07" focussing on Ohio state issues only. I rearranged sections here to put easy typo correction items first, and to put harder-for-National-Register-to-correct items later. The listed-but-demolished cases all will require state SHPO contact and approval, if not requiring SHPO to do field confirmations and for them to submit a separate change request form to the National Register in Washington, D.C. Could you please take a look through and edit further? ALL CAPS notes there indicate something is needed, like a decision about what we want to request. About the items within section "street address issues: harder", and for other items, are we (meaning you :) ) willing to do further research which would make the National Register's changes easier? I wonder if we should ask for the NRHP documents for those ones, instead of requesting that they check the NRHP documents and/or do other research towards making corrections. If we (you) would be interested in getting and using the NRHP docs to create/develop articles, it could possibly make sense to postpone change requests for those. You would then have to say which ones of those you would like to get NRHP docs for, instead. On the other hand, it would be fine to request to them that they do the research, and/or sort it out with state/local staff where needed. I'll wait for some response from you before submitting this batch, which is otherwise nearly ready to go. doncram (talk) 17:11, 12 January 2010 (UTC)
- There was some chat at my Talk page. I'm renumbering, dropping the Federal Plaza one, and submitting the Batch07 numbered items below. --doncram (talk) 16:35, 1 February 2010 (UTC)
- I have heard nothing back yet regarding my email of February 2, and I sent a followup inquiry today, May 25. --doncram (talk) 21:21, 25 May 2010 (UTC)
Listed or not?
edit- Masonic Temple (East Liverpool, Ohio) was NRHP-listed in 1985 per MRA document.[1]: 10 It was one of many buildings addressed in a study assessing historic resources in East Liverpool's central business district, a study resulted in the NRHP listing of several (including also Elks Club (East Liverpool, Ohio), Odd Fellows Temple (East Liverpool, Ohio), and YMCA (East Liverpool, Ohio)).[1] The Masonic Temple appears not to show in the National Register's NRIS database however.
--doncram (talk) 14:52, 16 September 2010 (UTC)
- Masonic Temple (Springfield, Ohio), listed or not, on December 17, 2008, refnum = 08001195. The National Register's NRIS database indicates that the building's listing status is "DR", which signifies "DATE RECEIVED/PENDING NOMINATION".[1] In cases of similarly indicated status, it has turned out the place was later fully NRHP-listed while the NRIS status was erroneously not updated.
"The temple was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2008.[1][2] In nominating the temple for inclusion on the Register, the Ohio Historical Society highlighted its significance as the home of the oldest fraternal organization in Springfield."[3]

- NRHP lists Monroe County bridge as Foreaker Bridge, but Monroe County Engineer (bridge's owner), ODOT, and Monroe County Economic Development Office all say it is Foraker Bridge. I also found a post from a person named Foraker with relatives in the area of the bridge, saying that Foraker is a common name of surrouding people. Considering there is no sign on the bridge itself and the above facts, I would surmise the application was misnamed. [1] [2] [3] Brian Powell (talk) 14:52, 25 August 2009 (UTC)
- batch07:09

- It should be Edwards Gymnasium and Pfeiffer Natatorium, with "Pfeiffer" not "Pfieffer". That "Pfeiffer" is correct is documented in pages at Ohio Wesleyan University (and perhaps elsewhere, including:

- Mistake in NRIS identified by User:Anythingyouwant. The NARA site echoes this error. Ohio Historic Inventory document (available at at NARA version) uses "Pfeiffer" and that is what appears in MPS signatures page. So the error was a typo in NRIS data entry apparently.

- batch07:15
Town issues
edit- Pisgah Christian Church in Brown County is located "NW of Ripley on Pisgah Rd", but is inexplicably listed in Wilmington, nearly 50 miles to the north. - For Englewood Historic District in Toledo, Ohio, NRIS lists as architect "Mill, Rhines, Bellman and Norhoff". It should be "Mills" not "Mill" and it should be "Nordhoff" not "Norhoff". Street address issues: easier
edit- White Bridge, in Mahoning County, Ohio: It crosses "Yellow" Creek, not "Yello" Creek. There is no "Yello Creek" in Ohio. Additionally, "Poland Village" is actually the same thing as Poland, Ohio.

- batch07:30
- The Ohio Soldiers' And Sailors' Home is listed as being "NE of Sandusky between U.S. 250 and S. Columbus Ave." While the address is right, this is southeast of Sandusky; northeast would be in Lake Erie. Nyttend (talk) 16:51, 13 August 2009 (UTC)

- batch07:36
- The William Walker, Jr., House in Upper Sandusky is listed at 132-134 S. 4th St.; it's actually at 132-134 North (not South) Fourth. Coords show it on N. 4th, and this page from a local history book places the house on the corner of Walker and Fourth, which Google Maps shows to be on N. 4th, not S. 4th. Nyttend (talk) 02:57, 13 October 2009 (UTC)

- National Register of Historic Places listings in Mahoning County, Ohio, several instances: The proper street name is "Federal Plaza West," never "West Federal Plaza," and it should not be confused with "West Federal Street," which is a different place altogether, though both are located in Youngstown, Ohio.
- NEED TO DETAIL OUT THE SPECIFIC CHANGES NEEDED
- Central Tower Building, listed February 8, 1980 at 1 Federal Plaza West, Youngstown
should be changed from "West Federal Plaza" to Federal Plaza WestNo, at least per Elkman system, this is correctly listed at "1 Federal Plaza West, Youngstown, Ohio", no change needed. - First National Bank Building, listed February 8, 1980, 6 Federal Plaza West, Youngstown,
should be changed from "West Federal Plaza" to Federal Plaza WestNO, per Elkman, this is correctly listed at "6 Federal Plaza West, Youngstown, Ohio" - Jay's Lunch, listed July 23, 1986, 258 Federal Plaza West,

- (not included in batch07)
- U.S. Post Office and Chester Town Hall in Chesterville are both listed at the junction of Sandusky and South Streets, which don't intersect. - Metropolitan Block in Lima is listed at "300 N. Main St"; need to add a period after "St" Nyttend (talk) 14:05, 4 May 2010 (UTC)
street address issues: harder
editAddressing the items in this section may require obtaining NRHP nomination document and also referring to atlases or other sources, and making some judgment. Wikipedia editors' suggested changes indicated here.
- Foreaker Bridge in Morgan County is listed "3 miles east of Graysville on U.S. Route 40" — my Ohio Atlas and Gazetteer shows it on a small rural road, and U.S. 40 is in Belmont County, over 30 miles to the north. Nyttend (talk) 15:20, 23 July 2009 (UTC)
- It is on County Road 40 (Plainview Road). Brian Powell (talk) 15:02, 25 August 2009 (UTC)
- Suggest change from "U.S. Route 40" to "County Road 40 (Plainview Road)"
- batch07:42
- Round Barn near Van Wert (Van Wert County) is listed along State Route 224. Here in fact it's a U.S. Route, instead, U.S. Route 224, not a state route — this is a common error made by residents of western Ohio. --Nyttend
- Suggest change from State Route 224 to U.S. Route 224.
- batch07:43
- Van Wert Bandstand near Van Wert is listed along State Route 127, but it's really U.S. Route 127. I repeat my comments from the Round Barn given above. Nyttend (talk) 14:19, 23 July 2009 (UTC)
- Suggest change from State Route 127 to U.S. Route 127
- batch07:44
- The Samuel Harper Stone House in Guernsey County is listed along State Route 416; this state highway's southern terminus is located in Tuscarawas County, north of Guernsey County. Google Maps shows it on Peters Creek Rd. Nyttend (talk) 16:15, 30 July 2009 (UTC)
- Suggest checking NRHP nomination document and also Google or other on-line, current maps, and then making some determination.
- batch07:45
- The Kennedy Stone House in Guernsey County is listed along State Route 271; this "state highway" is simply an abbreviation for Interstate 271, which is several counties north of Guernsey County. Google Maps shows it on an unnamed road in Salt Fork State Park.
Nyttend (talk) 16:15, 30 July 2009 (UTC)
- SR 541 previously was numbered SR 271 before the Interstate was built. The original SR 271 used to extend east of I-77 but was truncated after Salt Fork lake was built.
- So NRHP nomination info may been correct originally, but location needs updating. Suggest checking NRHP nomination document and also maps, and then making some determination.
- batch07:46
- The Peter B. Sarchet House in Guernsey County is listed along State Route 365; this state highway is exclusively located in Logan County on the other side of the state. My Ohio Atlas and Gazetteer shows it on Oldham Rd. Nyttend (talk) 16:15, 30 July 2009 (UTC)
- Suggest checking NRHP nomination document and also maps, and then making some determination.
- batch07:47
- The Claysville School in Guernsey County is listed along State Route 15; this state highway is located in northwestern Ohio, while Guerney County is in eastern Ohio. My Ohio Atlas and Gazetteer shows it on Claysville Rd. Nyttend (talk) 16:15, 30 July 2009 (UTC)
- Suggest checking NRHP nomination document and also maps, and then making some determination, perhaps to accept "Claysville Rd." instead.
- batch07:48
- Samuel Danford Farm, Church and Cemetery in Noble County is listed "North of Summerfield on State Route 5-A" — State Route 5 is in the northeastern corner of the state (Noble County being in the southeastern part of the state), and I can't find evidence for a separate 5A. Google Maps places it along a County Road 5A. Nyttend (talk) 15:00, 23 July 2009 (UTC)
- Suggest change "State Route 5-A" to "County Road 5A"
- batch07:49
- St. Michael Catholic Church Complex in Shelby County is listed along "U.S. 705 east of U.S. 66" — both 66 and 705 are Ohio State Routes, not U.S. Routes. Nyttend (talk) 15:18, 11 June 2009 (UTC)
- Suggest change from "U.S." to "State Route" for both.
- batch07:50
- Joseph Clester House is listed as being "southeast of Chauncey on State Route 111"; State Route 111 is in the northwestern corner of the state, while this place is in the southeastern part. Nyttend (talk) 14:05, 12 May 2009 (UTC)
- Suggest checking NRHP nomination document and also maps, and then making some determination.
- batch07:51
- The Harshaville Covered Bridge in Adams County is listed as being on State Route 1, which doesn't exist anymore and which never went anywhere near Adams County. Detailed road atlas shows it to be on Graces Road. Nyttend (talk) 20:02, 26 May 2009 (UTC)
- Suggest checking NRHP nomination document and also maps, and then making some determination, probably to "Graces Road"
- batch07:52
- Christ Church At The Quarry near Gambier (Knox County) is listed at the intersection of State Routes 233 and 235. I don't know if there's a State Route 233, but State Route 235 is on the other side of the state. Google Maps shows the roads to be Quarry Chapel and Monroe Mills Rds. Nyttend (talk) 21:03, 29 May 2009 (UTC)
- Suggest checking NRHP nomination document and also maps, and then making some determination.
- batch07:53
- The Mason House near Coal Run (Washington County) is listed along State Route 393, but there is no such highway. Likely error for State Route 339, which is only a few miles away from Coal Run. Nyttend (talk) 15:10, 13 August 2009 (UTC)
- Suggest checking NRHP nomination document and also maps, and then making some determination, perhaps chaning from State Route 393 to State Route 339
- batch07:54
- The West Orange Road-Thomas Bridge near Powell (Delaware County) is listed at "OH 114, E of jct. with OH 315". Delaware County is in central Ohio, but State Route 114 is in Putnam County, four counties away in northwestern Ohio. Detailed road atlas shows this location to be Orange Road and nothing more. Nyttend (talk) 14:43, 24 August 2009 (UTC)
- Suggest checking NRHP nomination document and also maps, and then making some determination, perhaps changing to "Orange Road"
- batch07:55
Demolished but still listed
edit- Homer Laughlin House in East Liverpool (Columbiana County), now a parking lot (see my picture of the site at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Site_of_the_Homer_Laughlin_House.jpg ), confirmed by local resident; this blog entry at http://conchacastaneda.blogspot.com/2008/11/homer-laughlin-house.html seems to suggest that it was destroyed in late 2008. - batch07:57
- Botkins Elementary School in Shelby County: coords place it in a parking lot, and locals told me that it had been torn down and replaced by this parking lot. It's listed along Main St., but there is no school along Main, and the school one block away is clearly far newer than the listed structure. Nyttend (talk) 19:39, 11 June 2009 (UTC)
- batch07:58
- Venice Building in Cleveland: couldn't find it when I drove there the other day, and Google Maps shows a new housing development at the site. Nyttend (talk) 04:34, 25 July 2009 (UTC)

There is plainly no building at the intersection of Fountain and High that looks like the one in the Historic American Buildings Survey photo, http://memory.loc.gov/pnp/habshaer/oh/oh1200/oh1225/photos/125179pv.jpg. Coordinates issues
edit- John Q.A. Ward House in Urbana is listed at 40°6′11″N 83°44′2″W / 40.10306°N 83.73389°W, when it's more properly at 40°6′11.52″N 83°45′27.216″W / 40.1032000°N 83.75756000°W — nothing wrong with the north/south coords, but the east/west coords place it on the eastern side of the city when it's really on the western side. - The Somerset Historic District (Perry County) has coords of 0°0′0″N 85°29′19″W / 0.00000°N 85.48861°W, which place it on the Equator. It's not just a problem of north-south coords, because 85º29'19"W is in Indiana. Proper coords are approximately 39°48′24.85″N 82°18′2.20″W / 39.8069028°N 82.3006111°W. - Guernsey County Courthouse in Cambridge is listed at 40°1′30″N 81°38′14″W / 40.02500°N 81.63722°W; correct to 40°1′30″N 81°35′14″W / 40.02500°N 81.58722°W, exactly three minutes to the east. Nyttend (talk) 15:50, 30 July 2009 (UTC)
