• Identify articles for improvement.
  • Review importance and quality of existing articles.

To-do items for anyone

edit
Please see the articles proposed to be created and those that need attention.

Planned articles

edit
  • 2015 PNR Metro South Commuter derailment — derailment that caused the indefinite suspension of PNR MSC services and led to the creation of bills on public transportation.
  • SMC MRT 7 Rotem EMU — rolling stock to be used on MRT Line 7 (Metro Manila)
  • Verify claims on the lead paragraph, particularly the following:
    • Numbering scheme, with emphasis on the sentence "The numbering scheme has since been confirmed to be EM1000 by the General Manager" as the reference cited is unsuitable.
    • First standard gauge trains of PNR
    • First electric traction trains of PNR. This could be contested since some existing PNR trains have electric traction motors.
  • Verify train formation numbering
  • Reduce jargons
  • Remove unverified information

Article guidelines

edit

The guidelines stated in this section are expected to be followed within articles related to Philippine transportation.

Structure

edit

Below is the suggested structure for railway station articles:

Station name
(The) [Station name] station is a (an under-construction) [at-grade, elevated, or underground] system station served by [train lines that serve the station] located in [city/municipality], [province (outside Metro Manila)]. [Notable information also goes here, like if it's a terminus or changeover station...]. The station is the [nth] station for trains headed to [First station] and the [nth] station for trains headed to [Last station].

It is located at [address/intersection]. [Other notable locations here, like proximity to a university or sports venue]. Service began [date].

Standards

edit

Station naming

edit

Article titles of train stations must be in the format of [Name] station. Parenthetical disambiguation where required may be added, with preference in the following order:

  1. Transit type (e.g., LRT, MRT)
  2. Line name (e.g., LRT Line 1, MRT Line 7)
  3. Geographic area (e.g., Manila, Metro Manila)

Units of measurement

edit

A comprehensive set of guidelines based on MOS:UNIT, MOS:PH, and PD No. 187, s. 1973 is provided for consistent unit measurements in Philippine transportation articles.

  • The primary units to be used in articles are SI (metric) units.
  • Conversions to imperial units (e.g., miles, feet) may be provided where necessary. Use the template value to convert. For example, to convert 18.584 km to mi, use 18.584 km.
  • Use up to three decimal places for metric measurements.
  • Conversions to non-metric measurements must use decimals up to three places for consistency.

RouteBox and RINT templates

edit

When denoting a connection of transfer to a specific stop along another transportation system as part of stops tables or nearby transportaion modes for articles about stops or places, use a generic Rail-interchange icon corresponding to its mode of transport (see the list below), followed by a RouteBox or Rail-interchange template for its official classifications, and the official name of the stop.

For stops along a bus route, use RouteBoxtemplates to indicate the bus route classification, route color as indicated in the article on the list of bus routes in Metro Manila, and the official name of the stop.

For railway transfers, use the localized Rail-interchange templates provided at Template:Rail-interchange/doc/PH. Note that a formatter for railway station names is also provided at Template:Station/doc.

For consistency, use the following generic icons for its corresponding mode of transport:

Unless specified, public transportation connections are considered to be part of official routes designated by the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board.

Examples:

As an additional note, for RouteBox templates that does not automatically link to the Wikipedia article of the transport system, you may use the link parameter to provide a wikilink to its respective article, as shown in the example below:

Stations/Stops table template

edit

Articles on notable transportation systems such as buses, railways, and ferry systems may use a table that lists all of its officially designated stops, the distance between stops, direct and indirect transfers to other transportation services, and the highly urbanized cities and/or independent component cities (HUCICCs) and province that it is located in.

edit

A skeletal template of the table with the header and footer is provided below:

+ List of stations
rowspan="2" width="145px" | Name
colspan="2" | Distance (km)

<!--LINE COLOR: note to adjust the colspan based on the number of table columns-->
colspan="7" |

City or Municipality
colspan="6" |

Station names

edit

In the Name column, stops that are proposed, under construction, or not operational should be denoted with italics. The official name of the stop as indicated by official maps or signage should be used here.

Distance between stations

edit

In the Distance columns for between stops and between terminuses, distances should be provided in kilometers, up to the third decimal place. Note that if there are no reliable sources on the distances between stops, this column may be omitted.

Transfers

edit

In the Transfers column, any nearby transportation services or terminals that are directly or indirectly connected to the given stop may be listed here.

Use the guidelines from the RouteBox and RINT templates section above when denoting transfers. For readability, you may either place em-dashes (—) or use collapsible lists to separate different modes of transport or connecting terminals in each row of the column.

It is suggested to arrange these sections in order from highest to lowest transport capacity. For consistency, the header should be named after the system name (e.g. Manila MRT, Manila LRT, Philippine National Railways) or the owner of the system (e.g. BGC Bus), whichever is more appropriate. The header should also link to its Wikipedia article, if there is one.

  1. Long-distance railways (PNR, NSCR, etc)
  2. Rapid transit (LRTs, MRTs, BRTs, etc)
  3. Bus services
  4. Airport, seaports, landports, and ferry services
  5. Other modes of transport or terminals

Official data on UX Express, jeepney, and tricycle routes are not reliable and as such, connections to their routes or "stops" should not be included until a reliable source is available. However, you may indicate any transfers to their terminals, if notable.

Templates
edit

This template uses em dashes to distinguish between different transport modes.

<!--(1) Icon or RINT of transport mode--> <!--(2) RouteBoxes or the logo or RINT of station, stop, or terminal--> <!--(3) Official name of station, stop, or terminal--> <br><br> <!--(4) Place any additional stops of the same transport mode here as needed-->
<br>
<!--(5) Use the same template for any additional transport modes here as needed-->

On the other hand, a template for collapsible lists, which allows the list to be collapsed and organized more neatly, is provided below:

<!--(5) Use the same template for any additional transport modes here as needed-->
Examples
edit

Using the template, we can generate a list of transfers for multiple transport modes and even multiple stops under each one. This example shows a station that connects to: (1) a MRT station with two lines (2) a BRT stop with one line, and (3) a bus stop with 3 routes. The first table below shows the example scenario using the em dash layout:

On the other hand, this one is how it would be done using the collapsible lists layout:

metro manila manila manila North Triangle Common Station
<br><br>
bus North Avenue
<br><br>
bus North EDSA

Note that the em dash layout does not require the name or owner of the system as it is much simpler in nature. This is what both of them would look like in a wikitable:

Transfers A Transfers B
Metro interchange 3 North Triangle Common Station

Bus rapid transit  E  North Avenue

Bus interchange  4   19   32  North EDSA
  •  E  North Avenue
  •  4   19   32  North EDSA

Location

edit

If the route is entirely located within one HUCICC, the Location column may be omitted. However, if it passes through two or more HUCICCs, the Location column should be used to denote which stops fall under which areas. For routes that pass through two or more provinces, indicate the province as well, separated by a comma.

Boundary crossings between HUCICCs and provinces may be denoted instead if the stop is located at the boundary of these two areas.
