Template:British Latinos (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)

Nonsense, unnecessary template. I think most French people would object to being called latinos! — Gustav von Humpelschmumpel (talk) 15:19, 25 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This template, whose sole author and editor is Stevvvv4444 (talkcontribs), is completely Original Research, trying to accomodate an American (polemic!) ethnic category (Latinos) to Britain! And without any sources whatsoever (with Stevvvv4444 claiming sources aren't needed because for him it's obvious...!!). Most European Romance speakers (such as the French, Italian, Portuguese, Romanian, and Spanish now all included in this template) do not see themselves as Latinos, and may even find the category offensive and stereotypical. Latinos is a category, born in the US for social differentiation between north americans and central and south americans, that has nothing to do with Europe. If you see the definitions of Latino in its article you will find it in contradiction with the definitions this template carries:

Latino as a demonym is variously defined in English language dictionaries as: a person of Latin-American or Spanish-speaking descent; a Latin American; A person of Hispanic, especially Latin-American, descent, often one living in the United States; Latin inhabitant of the United States; a usually Spanish-speaking person of Latin American birth or descent who lives in the U.S. Its origin is American Spanish latino, Latin, or latinoamericano, Latin American, from Latin Latinus. In the United States, the term is in official use in the ethnonym Hispanic or Latino, defined as "a person of Cuban, Mexican, Puerto Rican, South or Central American, or other Spanish culture or origin regardless of race."

This template is a total OR fabrication that presents a highly POV distorsion of reality. This can not be! It must be urgently deleted!! The Ogre (talk) 15:48, 25 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Dont Delete Hi, I dont actually think this needs to be deleted but just renamed...to "Latin Britons"...because we do not use latinos or Hispanics as a term although people are begining to use it in reference to people on tv and know what it means etc..but we do use the term LATIN or Latins ..i certanly use it and most Britons use this term in reference to describe the Italians Portuguese etc...when describing them as a people or nation..so i sujest that it be changed alittle but not nesecarily deleted... — Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.151.194.83 (talkcontribs)
Wrong, most British people do NOT use the term "latins" either. Gustav von Humpelschmumpel (talk) 21:22, 29 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Whats the difference between Latin and Latin's??..last time i looked they meant the same..except with the S meaning Latin people as a whole or group..i think i should know in from the UK. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.151.194.83 (talkcontribs) Delete as a OR template.
