Brochfael ap Meurig (ruled c.872 – c.910) was the king of Gwent in south-east Wales. He ruled jointly with his brother, Ffernfael ap Meurig. Gwent and Glywysing, the neighbouring territory to the west, were ruled as a single kingdom in some periods; at other times they were separate and the king of Glywysing had the higher status. Brochfael's father, Meurig ab Arthfael, ruled both territories with the title of King of Glywysing, but Brochfael and Ffernfael were only kings of Gwent, and had a lower status than their cousin Hywel ap Rhys, the king of Glywysing. The Anglo-Saxon kingdom of Mercia claimed dominion over most of Wales, but in the late 880s Brochfael, Ffernfael and Hywel submitted voluntarily to Alfred the Great, the king of Wessex, in order to gain protection from the oppression of Æthelred, Lord of the Mercians. A number of Brochfael's charters survive, mainly grants to Bishop Cyfeilliog and settlements of Brochfael's disputes with the bishop. Brochfael was the last of his line and was succeeded by Hywel's son, Owain ap Hywel. (Full article...)

Positive interpersonal relationships contribute to well-being.

Well-being is what is intrinsically good for a person, indicating how well their life is going. In the broadest sense, it is the balance of all positive and negative aspects. More narrowly, it refers only to positive degrees and contrasts with ill-being, which denotes negative ones. Researchers discuss types by how they are measured and to whom they belong, distinguishing subjective from objective well-being, and individual from community well-being. Hedonism and desire theory disagree about whether the balance of pleasure over pain or desire satisfaction is the source of well-being. Objective list theories hold that diverse elements are responsible. Often-discussed contributing factors are emotions, life satisfaction, achievement, finding meaning, interpersonal relationships, and health. As a central goal of many individual and societal endeavors, well-being is relevant to many fields, including philosophy, psychology, economics, sociology, anthropology, religion, politics, and medicine. The Real Adventures of Jonny Quest is an American animated television series produced by Hanna-Barbera Cartoons and broadcast on Cartoon Network from August 26, 1996, to April 16, 1997. A continuation of Jonny Quest and The New Adventures of Jonny Quest, it features teenage adventurers Jonny Quest, Hadji Singh, and Jessie Bannon as they investigate strange phenomena, legends, and mysteries in exotic locales. Action also takes place in the virtual realm of QuestWorld, a three-dimensional cyberspace domain rendered with computer animation. Hanna-Barbera dismissed creator Peter Lawrence in 1996. John Eng and Cosmo Anzilotti completed Lawrence's work; David Lipman, Davis Doi, and Larry Houston wrote new episodes with reworked character designs akin to those of classic Quest. Turner supported the show through a massive marketing campaign with 33 licensees. Real Adventures debuted with a wide release on Cartoon Network, TBS, and TNT, airing 21 times per week. The series failed to gain high ratings with its target demographics, leading to its cancellation. (Full article...)
