Wikipedia:WikiProject Articles for creation/July–August 2007 Backlog Elimination Drive
The current backlog elimination drive initiative can be found at Wikipedia:WikiProject Articles for creation/Backlog elimination drives. |
The official drive is now over but there is more work to be done. Please keep working to clear the backlog until it is gone.
As of July 15, 2007, there was an unreviewed-submissions backlog of around 300 pages dating from December 2005 to May 2007. There were attempts being made to clear it, but without the participation of everyone, this was going to take a very long time. The drive was loosely based on WikiProject Biography's assessment drive. Depending on the number of articles reviewed, editors received awards. Of course, just for participating, everyone who actively contributes to the drive will receive a WikiThanks, and maybe a smile. :) As of the end of the drive on August 15, the backlog had shrunk to less than 160 pages of submissions spread over the last 9 months of 2006.
How to help
editCategory:Unreviewed articles for creation request pages contains all archive pages marked with {{afc n}}, indicating they have currently having unreviewed submissions. Category:Wikipedia article creation requests needing further review contains all archive pages with submissions marked {{afc maybe}}, which indicates they need further review. When you find a submission that has not been reviewed or which needs further review, follow the following steps, as usual.
Verify that the submission is not a copyright violation and meets applicable notability guidelines.
- If the article looks suitable for Wikipedia:
- Create the article, crediting the submitter's IP address or username in the initial edit summary for GFDL compliance.
- Consider adding the new article to categories, and tagging it with appropriate cleanup templates.
- If the article is a stub, add the {{stub}} template, or the appropriate category-specific stub templates.
- Add any other appropriate categories and templates to the main article.
- Add any appropriate project templates or other templates to the talk page.
- If it is a person, add {{WPBiography}}. If it is a living person, be sure to add the "living=yes" parameter and make sure it conforms to WP:BLP.
- Add {{WPAFC}} to the talk page of the new article to flag it as part of the AFC WikiProject.
- Leave a reply below the submitted text, noting that the article has been created. You can use the template {{subst:afc accept}} to do this quickly. Be sure to sign your reply with ~~~~.
- Mark the submission with {{subst:afc top|accept}} just below the headline, and {{subst:afc b}} at the very bottom.
- Add {{subst:Afc talk|Article Name}} to the talk of the IP address that submitted the article, to inform them that their submission was successful. Be sure to sign your message with ~~~~.
- Create the article, crediting the submitter's IP address or username in the initial edit summary for GFDL compliance.
- If the article does not look suitable for Wikipedia:
- Immediately remove any copyright violations, personal attacks, or patent nonsense from the submission.
- Write a quick reply explaining why the article is not a good idea. These templates provide quick responses to common problems. Be sure to sign your reply with ~~~~.
- Mark the submission with {{subst:afc top}} just below the headline, and {{subst:afc b}} at the very bottom.
Mass Moderation
editA new system has been implemented on the Project's talk page to quickly clear all old archives. You can use the system by quickly "skimming" the page, looking for any submissions that would be appropriate. Create the ones that would, as usual. For the requests that you would normally decline, just don't add any explanation as to why you declined it. Enclose any requests you mass moderate in {{subst:afc top|mm}} and {{subst:afc b}} tags. You do not have separately enclose each request - several requests can be included in the same set of tags. Be careful when using the mass moderation method, because you can easily miss some good submissions. When you have fully reviewed a page by mass moderating, add {{afc mass}} to the top of the page, to produce this. {{afc mass}}
This system is quite effective, but do not use it unless you understand it fully.

Invitation
editThis drive is open to everyone who wants to help shoot down the backlog. The awards mentioned above are OK, but the greatest award will be that of accomplishment.[corny?] If you know anyone who might want to help, put this template on their talk page: {{subst:WPAFCDrive}}, which will produce this.
