WikiProject Multi-sport events takes some guidance from the far larger and older WikiProject Olympics.

This page seeks to lay out basic notability guidelines as well as naming conventions for articles.

Articles on Games

All Games with significant participation are considered notable.

All articles on games should have the year of the games first, followed by the name. Therefore, 1951 Asian Games and not I Asian Games, Games of the I Asiad, or 1st Asian Games.

Where the official name for a competition does not follow this standard, a redirect should be created from the official name.

Where there are both Summer and Winter Games, like the Canada Games, this should be reflected with a redirect to the proper the article name. Therefore, 2005 Canada Games or 2007 Canada Games, but not 2005 Canada Summer Games and 2007 Canada Winter Games. Redirects should be created as necessary.

Where the term "Summer" or "Winter" is in the official title, like the Asian Winter Games, articles should be placed at year name. Therefore, 2011 Asian Winter Games and not 2011 Asian Games.

Where the sport is ambiguous identify the full name. "Skating" for can either "Ice" or "Roller" Skating.

Articles on nations and delegations

Overview articles

All nations or sub-national delegations to notable Games are considered notable for overview articles.

All articles on nations or delegations should have the name of the delegation first, followed by the name of the games. Therefore, Canada at the Commonwealth Games or Singapore at the Asian Games.

Individual Games

All nations or sub-national delegations to notable individual Games are considered notable, even if no medals were won.

All articles on nations or delegations should have the name of the delegation first, followed by the year and name of the games. If necessary, redirects should be created. For example, Athletes from Kuwait at the 2010 Asian Games, not Kuwait at the 2010 Asian Games, although the latter redirects to the former.

Articles on sports and events

All sports at notable Games are considered notable for articles.

These should have the sport first, followed by the year and name of the games. For example, Cricket at the 2010 Asian Games.

Individual events are not necessarily considered notable for articles. Where there is enough information other than the medallists of each event, the event should be considered notable for an article. Where little other than the results of the event is to be included in an event article, consider merging the information to the main sport article. However, there are a number of events which are inherently notable, including men's and women's 100 metre sprints in athletics.

Where an individual event is notable, the article should be titled sport at the year and name of Games – event. Therefore, Athletics at the 2010 Commonwealth Games – Men's 100 metres.
