Blocking

edit

In the administrators' guide on blocking and filling in the blocking form, it states:

"Block account creation: stops the user from creating a new account for 24 hours after the block is made – this typically should be left ticked."

"Autoblock any IP addresses used blocks all IP addresses the editor may use in the future whilst blocked. Autoblocks last for 24 hours, except in the case of dynamic IP pools such as those used by residential ISPs – this typically should be left ticked.

Is this information correct? Is an editor who is blocked able to create a new account or edit as an IP after 24 hours has expired, or are these restrictions indefinite? Cwmhiraeth (talk) 09:46, 17 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Cwmhiraeth: Except in the case where a user is, say, softblocked for using a well-known name (in which case the box would be deticked anyway), it would still not be permitted for the blocked user to make a new account and edit with it. However, the 24 hours bit is a compromise between discouraging them from immediately seeing it and making a new account against a major increase in collateral damage in the future. @Kernel123 You are not an administrator here or on any other Wikimedia projects. Only administrators can protect pages. Sam Walton (talk) 23:16, 17 December 2022 (UTC)Reply

How do I erase my wikipedia talk history

edit

Hi. I haven't used this account for some time and that said i've written alot of wacky things on the talk pages of some articles when I was much younger. I was quite the rascal back then. Any input on how I erase my Wikipedia talk history? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Graylandertagger (talkcontribs)

Graylandertagger. Hey there. Unfortunately for transparency reasons we do not permit mass erasing of talk page comments. Some things that are allowed are blanking your user talk page (User talk:Graylandertagger), and/or starting a new account (see WP:CLEANSTART). Hope that helps. –Novem Linguae (talk) 03:20, 12 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

Thank you though. I did write alot of things that have left me with regret that i'd rather not discuss. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Graylandertagger (talkcontribs)
