Colour me shocked
editGenuinely shocked to find that Lourdes was a sock of Wifione. Who knew? Guy (help! - typo?) 19:59, 8 December 2023 (UTC)
- Same. That was not on any of my wikibingo lists Thanks,L3X1 ◊distænt write◊ 00:32, 6 May 2024 (UTC)
"ad" to reach out to potential RfA candidates
editGiven that this month's admin newsletter talks about the RfA reforms and trials, could we also add a call for people to reach out to good potential RfA candidates? For instance, adding the following bullet point:
- This may be a good time to reach out to potential nominees to ask if they would consider a run.
—Femke 🐦 (talk) 18:08, 30 April 2024 (UTC)
- @Femke, sure, I will add it before distributing. – DreamRimmer (talk) 19:06, 30 April 2024 (UTC)
Newsletter delay?
editToday, there hasn't yet been any massmessage yet; the same thing happened last month where the newsletter was massmessaged five days late. Should someone massmessage to the subscribers? ToadetteEdit! 18:30, 5 July 2024 (UTC)
- @ToadetteEdit, sorry for the delay. I was busy for a few days. @EN-Jungwon will deliver it as soon as possible. – DreamRimmer (talk) 02:44, 6 July 2024 (UTC)
Species notability
editDreamRimmer, thank you for letting people know about the WP:PROPOSAL at Wikipedia:Notability (species). The RFC will expire in about a week. I'm assuming that the newsletter will be delivered before then. If there's a delay, then you could update the wording, or you could just run it as-is. We'll put up a note at Wikipedia:Closure requests, but I don't realistically expect anyone to close it immediately, and the RFC bot's 30-day timer is not a firm deadline. WhatamIdoing (talk) 17:51, 2 September 2024 (UTC)
- @WhatamIdoing, thanks for the response. I know this RfC will expire in a week. I included it because I'll be sending out the newsletter soon. – DreamRimmer (talk) 17:56, 2 September 2024 (UTC)
ArbCom-appointed roles accepting applications at any point during the year
editOver at Wikipedia talk:Arbitration Committee/Noticeboard#Call for applications: clerks, COI queue, checkuser, and oversight, there's a suggestion by Thryduulf to mention a note there in this newsletter:
I just wanted to note something else for the record. These are roles we're always recruiting for! Last year we tried to make that clear in this announcement, but I suspect that paradoxically, removing the annual call for applications might have reduced applications (whereas the intended effect was to increase them). So, I wanted to mention that anyone who is even considering whether they might be a good fit for CU/OS, presently or in the future (reasonably soon), is very welcome to reach out to ArbCom and ask. You're also welcome to ask me, of course, even after I'm off the committee in two months. Best, KevinL (aka L235 · t · c) 23:43, 9 October 2024 (UTC)
- @L235 It probably wouldn't be the world's worst idea to put something similar to this in WP:ADMINNEWS, not everybody who might be interested will necessarily be watching this page. Thryduulf (talk) 00:29, 11 October 2024 (UTC)
- Throwing this out there as a suggestion: Has anyone on ArbCom gone around and issued personal invites to qualified candidates? You might already be doing this (and I wouldn't know because I do not qualify for any besides clerk :D). But doesn't hurt to raise the idea. Best, HouseBlaster (talk • he/they) 00:58, 11 October 2024 (UTC)
- Yes. Primefac (talk) 10:46, 11 October 2024 (UTC)
- @HouseBlaster I know several arbs have reached out to individuals. If you can think of anyone who might be good for these roles, feel free to mention it to them or drop their name to ArbCom or an individual arb. I also agree with @Thryduulf's suggestion of putting it in the admin newsletter. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 16:56, 11 October 2024 (UTC)

I'll leave this to someone else's better sense for whether to include. Best, KevinL (aka L235 · t · c) 19:55, 11 October 2024 (UTC)
