Stats
editHi. The subject-space page currently reads:
Wikipedia has almost 500 million readers, but only around 33,000 editors.
I believe that these numbers should be cited.
I also believe that these numbers are wrong and incredibly misleading. If you look at logged-in editors alone who have made an edit in the past 30 days, it's closer to 130,000. That 130,000 figure doesn't include anonymous editors. Anonymous editors account for several tens of thousands of editors each month. The 500 million figure is a combined viewing of all Wikimedia wikis (and even then, I think it's high). It's difficult to assess the 500 million figure without a citation, but you're essentially comparing all Wikimedia traffic (readers) to editors with over five edits to the English Wikipedia. I don't believe this is an acceptable comparison to be making.
The broader point is that most people don't edit. That's a fine point to make, but it can be done without using misleading statistics. I'm re-tagging the page pending further discussion. --MZMcBride (talk) 17:19, 18 July 2012 (UTC)
- Side-stepping the stats question altogether, is there any reason to include the numbers at all? It'd be fairly trivial to rewrite the intro to be less specific, but much more accurate. "Wikipedia has millions of readers, but only a very small percentage of those readers currently regularly edit." Or something to that effect.
- The intro text is also duplicated across five pages. It might be nice to templatize it for easier updates. --MZMcBride (talk) 17:25, 18 July 2012 (UTC)
- Both pretty good points; I'll do that now. Okeyes (WMF) (talk) 15:54, 19 July 2012 (UTC)
- Oh, wonderful. Thanks! --MZMcBride (talk) 05:24, 20 July 2012 (UTC)
- No problem! Thanks for bringing them up :). Okeyes (WMF) (talk) 18:57, 20 July 2012 (UTC)

Usability of walkthrough
editI am looking at the walkthrough on a laptop with a 15.6 (?)m inch screen, the current standard, and using Palemoon, virtually equivalent to any current standard browser, possibly giving me a little more height than FF or IE.
With this set up the amount of real-estate available for the walkthrough, given the over head of the OS, browser, WP and the pseudo-tabbed interface is such that I am scrolling down for each section then scrolling up to click the next tab.
For this reason it may be more useful for the walkthough to simply be a page with sections.
All the best, Rich Farmbrough, 04:44, 23 July 2012 (UTC).
The rest of articles
editI would suggest to place something like "(the rest is using AFT Version 4)" after At the moment, the software is only enabled on under 10 percent of articles. What do you think? --Utar (talk) 09:04, 25 August 2012 (UTC), Utar (talk)
