Importance

Hello to those of you who join! I think the first thing we need to figure out is the importance ratings for this task force. What are the criteria we should set to determine high vs. mid vs. low? Personally I don't really think we need to worry about importance; they're all in the Hall of Fame so they all have major importance to begin with; further breaking it down isn't really necessary. Wizardman _{Operation Big Bear} 16:19, 5 May 2012 (UTC)

Yeah, but this task force includes other Halls of Fame aside from Cooperstown; for instance, British Baseball Hall of Fame. If we want to consider them all the same, then we could remove the importance rating from the task force. – Muboshgu (talk) 17:40, 5 May 2012 (UTC)

Key to BBWAA election results table

This concerns template {{BBWAA balloting key}} and its Talk.

I suggest we display the Key beside the annual table of BBWAA election results rather than above it. I have revised Baseball Hall of Fame balloting, 2013#BBWAA election (current year only) to show that layout.

The template is marked High-importance but there are no replies in six months.

In January I revised the 2013 balloting article [1] positioning the template beside rather than above the table. Compare

• Baseball Hall of Fame balloting, 2012#BBWAA election
• Baseball Hall of Fame balloting, 2013#BBWAA election

At the same time I revised the template [2] improving our explanations of the four background colors and [3] incorporating explanations of the two symbols. Compare

• original template (substantially the only other version)

Numerals refer to the three Template talk sections. In section 2 concerning the color code I observed that in order to fit all elections we probably need to enrich the template, enabling replacement of some default text (or need multiple templates). The point pertains to the entire key, colors and symbols.

Momentarily, a new template talk section concerns [4] template usage, currently 2007 to 2013 only.

Inclusion of additional Halls of Fame under this task force

I'm not formally part of this task force, but I've come across two Hall-of-Fame type entities that I feel deserve more attention. One is the Baseball Reliquary's Shrine of the Eternals, which has now been around for over 20 years and, more importantly, recognizes a wider range of figures with less emphasis on statistics than the National Hall. Recognition in the Shrine seems like a quirky but competent reflection of a person's impact on baseball through a more cultural lens than a traditional HOF. See, for example, the recent induction of J.R. Richard (whose playing career certainly looked to be on HOF trajectory before his stroke) alongside Lisa Fernandez and Billy Beane.

The second is the Hispanic Heritage Baseball Museum Hall of Fame. This came to my attention when Manny Sanguillen was inducted during a pre-game ceremony at PNC Park about 10 days ago.

Any thoughts on how best to treat inductees for these secondary halls? I just finished a methodical process of making sure all of the Shrine inductees have the basic mention of their induction and the year included on their existing Wikipedia pages, but think it deserves more expansive treatment. One of the last ones I added, on Casey Stengel's page, was reverted almost immediately with an editor's note that "we are sticking to the most significant awards. While having an award independent of the obsolete 'baseball writers' is a good thing, I don't see that it's [Shrine of the Eternals] taken on much significance as yet." Request for information on WP1.0 web tool

Hello and greetings from the maintainers of the WP 1.0 Bot! As you may or may not know, we are currently involved in an overhaul of the bot, in order to make it more modern and maintainable. As part of this process, we will be rewriting the web tool that is part of the project. You might have noticed this tool if you click through the links on the project assessment summary tables.

We'd like to collect information on how the current tool is used by....you! How do you yourself and the other maintainers of your project use the web tool? Which of its features do you need? How frequently do you use these features? And what features is the tool missing that would be useful to you?
